For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

ok, for a limited period, stripey buns - and some halloween horror just for the heck of it as i couldn't find my pirate pix...:)

DollyPopsOut · 19/07/2007 19:01

Hello everyone

Glad the power pramming went well PPW. It sounds much nicer than the power stuff round here. I am very sorry to hear so many people are suffering. I usually take to my bed with lots of water and weak camomile tea with most lurgies. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Fruit etc today much better - 2 nectarines, some blueberries, lettuce, tom, pepper, carrot, beetroot for lunch and yummy asparagus prawn thing for supper to come! Plus I got a lot of cherries too.

Your little boy is GORGEOUS Franny. My DD has similar fair curly hair. How do I get her to do 10/10 (or the 2 year old equivalent)? She is in an anti veggie phase ATM and turned down the lovely cucumber and pepper strips to eat with her hummous for tea.

FirenzeandZooey · 19/07/2007 19:04

Oh WOW at stripy buns

LOL at Halloween, am uploading one of me and ds at halloween, then must stop messing about with photos

more of you FMF

FMV great pictures I think we all have similar taste in crockery here. I think I need to email you about pirate goings on...

TT

I know it's good to have a cry but I always feel terrible afterwards.

FirenzeandZooey · 19/07/2007 19:07

Sorry Dolly cross posts, was not meaning to ignore you but was fiddling about on picturetrail

You could try smoothies, PYO fruit and veg, going to greengrocers where they can point and pick what they want? Letting them wash the f+v also fun. More ideas if I can think of them, ds is calling

Franny your hat is fabulous!

Tatties · 19/07/2007 19:16

Dolly ds has usually been good with f&v, but just trying to think what has gone down particularly well when he's been going through a fussy phase... Once I gave him some soft fruit to 'chop up' (blunt knife) - well it didn't even get that far, just went straight in his mouth! Similar thing with preparing veggies to go into pasta sauce - give things to chop up which can also be eaten raw, like peppers, then they can help themselves while preparing and also hopefully be more interested in eating the finished product seeing as they have contibuted!

Filchymindedvixen · 19/07/2007 19:22

at hat!
How do I add a pic to an existing album? aggh!

lionheart · 19/07/2007 19:47

I wasn't sure whether your stripey buns were the American kind, you know, like the BWA. But they are buns.

And very lovely, too.

FirenzeandZooey · 19/07/2007 20:14

FMF go to edit album, then "upload pics" up the top

Dolly ds used to love a fruit salad - I think choosing at this age is important. he also loved / loves things to put in wraps or pittas - we do little bowls of each kind of salad vegetable, plus some beans or quorn, and some sour cream, guacamole, grated cheese, hummus, etc. He likes to pick his own stuff and fill up the wrap.

The same worked when he was a bit fussy at breakfast time. Put everything (different cereals, dried fruit, fresh fruit, nuts and seeds etc) in tiny bowls (I use old yogurt pots) and let him help himself. He always ends up putting everything in because it is so fun mixing it up. Then give a small container of milk - the pouring is the best bit.

Will somebody come and make me some ratatouille ? I have the ingredients but my head hurts. Think I'll just go to bed. Larger dcs can settle themselves.

FirenzeandZooey · 19/07/2007 20:56

Hope you are getting some rest TooT and that tomorrow is a better day

PinkPotterWeasleys · 19/07/2007 22:03

Woah! Just read all of today's messages - don't know where to start!

I ache a little bit today but not as bad as I thought and I keep trying to remember to pull my tummy in like the overly smiley incredibly fit woman said!!! Raisins, melon, tomato pasta sauce. Oh my god, that's it! Rubbish That's not even 3 It's because I didn't go to the market yesterday but I'm going in the morning.

BBB - If it's not too late my courgette favourite is frittata - I slice the courgettes on the side of the grater and chuck them in a frying pan (with eg onion, spring onion, tomato) fry for a few minutes, add beaten egg. Cook for a bit longer then spinkle cheese on top (and maybe sliced tomato) and grill til bubbling. Yum and good cold the next day too

FMV - I got my mum the teatop that matches your set! Love the stripey buns!

F&Z - the ball looks very nice. How big is it and what is it for? Sorry if that's a stupid question...

PinkPotterWeasleys · 19/07/2007 22:04

Oops meant to say hope all the poorly people feel better soon.

FirenzeandZooey · 19/07/2007 22:09

PSW it is just the right size to nestle pleasingly in the palm of your hand

I run heuristic play classes for babies where they play with treasure baskets and this will be perfect for the babies. I am always on the look out for intriguing, tactile objects made from natural materials.

PinkPotterWeasleys · 19/07/2007 22:16

Ooh lovely my mum told me about a basket idea like that - she's taught 'play' at post-natal classes. (That sounds odd to read back! I don't know how else to put it!)
I noticed the pine cone in that picture - I keep wanting to pick one up for dd but worry about dog wee! I guess I'll have to bring one home and wash it. Hadn't thought of that until now, duh!

Malfoynomore · 19/07/2007 22:22

How is everyone...hope those poorly are feeling better....
well...not the greatest Fruit and Veg day here...had a huge stirfry with lots of vegetables in it ( Sugar snaps, mushrooms, peppers, carrots, cabbage, soy beans, chilli, garlic and onion...)...and had about half a can of Apricots (in pearjuice), been out for most of the day and spend the rest of the day baking cakes for the different schools/Nurseries...sigh...
can't wait for Holidays.

FirenzeandZooey · 19/07/2007 22:24

You can wash almost anything in very hot soapy water, PSW, dip in Milton's, or if very delicate like a feather you can hold in the steam of a kettle

just make sure you don't leave dc alone with the basket as the objects are safe with supervision only

if your mum has anything to share on this I would love to hear from her. I am a heuristic play fiend

Malfoynomore · 19/07/2007 22:28

lol, that is the odd thing, usually I dread schoolholidays and summer ones in particular...but the Kids been pretty good recently, so, I think we will have a good time Also dh is going to be off for some time during the holidays and we plan some smaller camping trips (with our brandspankng new 9 people tent)

lionheart · 19/07/2007 22:40

You need to do some beechcombing, Franny, for you baskets.

Better day today, sats (multiple), banana, sweetcorn, cuc (am building back up to 10).

TheChamberofCarrots · 20/07/2007 09:03

Morning!!!

I feel stupidly excited today, I LOVE the school holidays and even though it's grey and a quite windy I just know it's going to be a fab break. Ds had his last day yesterday and they all came out cheering and everyone went to the park up the road for hours (there is a tea stall, with organic cake and rooibosh!)and the atmosphere was so charged, I really remember that feeling of freedom where the summer stretches out before you and seems endless. Sigh.

So pleased you liked the ball, Franny, it came quickly then, the post is very erratic at the moment. Of course I don't mind you posting it up, it was strange to see it on the screen. Dc's thought it was hilarious that one of my balls was 'famous' and they were very interested in your ds too. 'Ooh, he's a fairy, what's his name? That's Franny's Ds. Oooh, that's a funny name, he looks like Otto (Ds bf). Can't you put us on there too?'

Food - Um, yesterday, loads of salad in the day but chinese takeaway for dinner, with fizz. Well, we were celebrating, today will be much better, starting with kiwi
