Bitten by lion - GP?

BittenByLion · 11/04/2019 19:03

Long story short, I’ve just got back from abroad and while I was there I got bitten by a lion. It’s not a serious bite but it did break the skin. The bite was on Monday, it’s healing nicely and there’s no sign of infection but do I need to do anything? Tetanus jab etc.? I gave it a wash at the time but haven’t had any medical attention.

NC’ed cos this is pretty identifying but I’ve been here yonks. Poo on the pouffe, garlic thread worms, pan pipe elf mum, minge etc.

What the!Grin I wouldn't be putting my hands anywhere near a lion, and that is not the size of a housecat, but what a story OP Grin

How about phoning one of the Schools of Tropical Medicine? There is one in London and I think there is one up north too. They might have experience of lion bites. But yes, as PP suggested, I'm sure you would need a tetanus shot and probably rabies prophylaxis asap.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 11/04/2019 19:15

I was sneezed on by an elephant when we were on safari. Ruined my new t-shirt Grin

nocoolnamesleft · 11/04/2019 19:16

Is the lion okay?

MrsMozartMkII · 11/04/2019 19:16

Used to play with lions. A million years ago when I was young and my Dad worked at a zoo. Was never bitten by one though so am not of much use really, other than to say call 111 as you don't want any nasty infections in there.

P.S. Please, do as Shortandsweet96 said and record the call to 111!

waterygrass · 11/04/2019 19:17

That's a kitten nibble

QueenDoria · 11/04/2019 19:18

This thread. One of the reasons you’ve got to live Mumsnet.

Love

ThanosSavedMe · 11/04/2019 19:20

Omfg that is adorable!

I’ve been bitten by a snake, no where near as cute as the lion

Swatsup · 11/04/2019 19:20

Loving the photo evidence, I would check with nhs on any booster jabs.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 11/04/2019 19:20

I got bitten by the school hamster when I was at primary school. Never forgotten...

WingBingo · 11/04/2019 19:21

You can use 111 online now. I suspect the triaging isn’t set up for this though.

CherryBlossom23 · 11/04/2019 19:22

I hope you were at some kind of sanctuary and not those places where they drug big cats so you can get close without being eaten Hmm

Guyliner · 11/04/2019 19:22

111 are the worst for normal stuff.

God knows what they will do with this.

I'd just go to the GP but assume if this was at a zoo that the animals are all clean and healthy.

LordPickle · 11/04/2019 19:22

Well you don't see this every day on MN...or anywhere. I'd go to the GP, who knows what sort of infections LION BITES can contain?

DameFanny · 11/04/2019 19:22

I'm just here for the 111 response

iklboo · 11/04/2019 19:23

A gecko once ran up my knicker leg. Nowhere near as cool as being nibbled on by a lion cub.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 11/04/2019 19:24

Best thread ever ! Need the back story of how you were playing with a baby lion 🦁

Guyliner · 11/04/2019 19:24

Tbf LordProffFekko the hamster was probably bigger than this lion

thislido · 11/04/2019 19:24

It’s eyes match your jumper.

Wolfiefan · 11/04/2019 19:25

Oh OP. For future reference a low voiced “no” stops them in their tracks. Well it did when a 12 stone tiger cub did similar. Grin True story.
(Cuddling the captive babies raised money to vaccinate dogs in countries with wild big cats where the cats were dying from diseases passed on by the dogs. Or something. It was years ago.)

thislido · 11/04/2019 19:26

Its

Mrsjayy · 11/04/2019 19:26

Why were you allowed to pet a lion cub was it a paid for experience ? I would go to the Drs and never pay to do anything so stupid again because it sounds iffy at best

Bodear · 11/04/2019 19:27

OP, just to set my mind at rest and not promote unethical lion “sanctuaries” and petting zoos please could you let us all know how you came to be playing with a lion cub?

Apoiads · 11/04/2019 19:29

I'd love the 111 call.

Ok, so you have been bitten by a lion.

Have you been bleeding heavily for an hour?

An ambulance is on its way, can you please put the lion away while the ambulance crew gain access.
