For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

yes but you nibbled his bid up bit by bit, and then he responded, and bid more than £50 when you outbid him?

OK...I've been enticed into joining this 10/10 lark by your excellent title Franny.

I've not done very well at all with the 10 fruit/veg, and I'm a vegetarian fgs. I've only had three . Does plum jam count (homemade!). That would bring it up to four.

FrannyandZooey · 09/07/2007 22:01

Hmm, plum jam...much as I want to be kind to a newcomer, in a word, NO

Have a look at the link in the OP for lots of details about what counts in your 10 a day, and what makes up each portion.

Are you mainly a fruit lover or a vegetable muncher would you say?

I have had felafel with NQC's fattoush salad, bloody delicious, though I'm not sure I remembered it exactly right as I couldn't find that post. Had it with rocket too, then dried apricots, dates and an apple.

I put Lo to bed a little while ago and there was a cat on my bed purring at me. I don't have a cat. This is because I am very allergic to them and the b*ard thing trespassed only an hour after I changed the sheets. I am going to put gravel or something on my windowsill, will that work?

lionheart · 09/07/2007 22:15

That's slightly Alice-in-Wonderland, MrsC.

Bloody felines.

Have not had a great day foodwise (which I blame in the fact that we are building a model car for a school project and needed a,

erm, empty Pringles container) ... banana, apple, plums, leeks, smoothie, carrot.

Hello, MC (nice try with plum jam).

MollyCoddle · 09/07/2007 22:21

Dang. I have five jars of the stuff...thought I'd be quids in for days.

I suppose I'm more of a vegetable muncher. DS and DD are fruit hogs and I barely get a look in these days. Will have to start fighting them for it.

FrannyandZooey · 09/07/2007 22:25

Ah, no, veggies are better for you anyway

have you a plan for tomorrow? Most of us reckon having a good chunk of vegetables with lunch is the key to cracking it

Lionheart I hope it was a small Pringles container?

MrsC oh dear. Will it / has it affected you a lot?

OP posts:
TooTicky · 09/07/2007 22:32

MrsC, you can buy tiger poo from some zoos. You could try putting that on your windowsill.

Carrots, broad beans, broccoli. Probably only about 5 in total today. I'll get a nectarine.

LL, my ds1 painted himself pink yesterday. Everywhere. It was of those supremely sensual experiences that I could not have denied him, but boy it took some clearing up! So did he - his torso is still glowing. Oh, and I have photos of him posing as Pink Man. Priceless stuff, and very nice as he has been seeming all grown up and tough recently.

lionheart · 09/07/2007 22:32

Have binned them. Am not to be trusted.

TooTicky · 09/07/2007 22:34

Pringles are made by nasty people who do horrid experiments on animals. Just don't buy them.

lionheart · 09/07/2007 22:38

Have set fire to bin.

Actually, TooT, I remember this came up the last time Pringles were mentioned and I haven't bought them since then.

Needed a chassis.

MollyCoddle · 09/07/2007 22:42

I'm ashamed to say that I will have to make some changes to my weekly shop if I'm going to rise to this challenge. I'll be doing it tomorrow (online - delivered Thursday).

However, I've had a rifle through the fridge and cupboards and think I can probably improve on today's lowly vegetable count (not hard...lol).

TooTicky · 09/07/2007 22:43

Have you thought about getting a veg box delivered MC? I find that instantly ups our intake and variety.

lionheart · 09/07/2007 22:47

I need to diversify too, MC. Can anyone recommend a decent but reasonably basic vegetarion cook book please?

TooTicky · 09/07/2007 22:50

Viva sell some good ones. Look at the vegan section too - I really recommend the Vegan Taste of...(various countries) series.

FrannyandZooey · 09/07/2007 22:50

Lionheart I really like this one, now out of print but available second hand here

It is not anything special but I just find it full of decent, tasty vegetable family meals.

OP posts:
lionheart · 09/07/2007 22:53

Thank you both. I will get a couple and give it a bash.

MrsCarrot · 09/07/2007 22:55

Lol tiger poo! My bed is right next to the window, not sure I'd find the aroma of large feline deposits that soporific!

My skin is prickling a bit and my ears feel funny, that's just from changing the sheet. We'll see how it goes tonight, hope it didn't go on my pillow.

MrsCarrot · 09/07/2007 22:56

I love the G and B cookbook btw, we've done loads of things from that. Mmm.

We've had trespassing cats. I catch them, spray them in the face with a water spritzer thing (a lot), hiss at them, then kick them out. That sorts it out. Bit difficult to do if you are allergic, though.

I am drunk.

Gig was ok. Well, compere was shit. First act reasonably good. Second act very very good. Third (main) act shit.

Tomorrow I have to:

  • take DS1 to school
  • go to co-op
  • do shift at co-op
  • go get DS1 from school

Peach cobbler was very good, though.

TooTicky · 09/07/2007 23:38

NQC, I'm curious about this co-op you mention so often

NotQuiteCockney · 09/07/2007 23:41

It's a childcare co-op, like a nursery only not for profit, and parents do shifts. DS2 goes. Actually, I'm the lead parent, go figure.

NotQuiteCockney · 10/07/2007 07:58

I'm feeling ok this morning, but a bit as to what I will eat today. I am doing another co-op shift, although I'm bringing sardines and bread with me.

And I do have the afternoon off, so can go to a cafe then I guess.

Am biking DS1 in this morning, at least, so will have lots of exercise.

Oh, and I ran out of cereal, and there just wasn't time, among everything else, to make any more. So I had to have store-bought muesli this morning. And it was icky.

FrannyandZooey · 10/07/2007 08:13

I have berries coming out of my ears (not literally nope)

Raspberries, blueberries, redcurrants, grapes, raisins and banana for breakfast.

Hope everyone has a good morning
