For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I don't think I've seen lemon curd tarts. There aren't many parents who buy in dessert (it's meant to be fruit, really! I should be reminding people of this. I do home baking sometimes, but by no means every time).

3andnomore · 10/07/2007 21:03

not read the whole thread, sorry...jsut wondering do you start a new thread every monday or somehting ???? I know, I am thick and all that, lol....
Well, had Mango (but decided not keen on eating it...I think that is something much better used in a Juice, lol....and then had loads of Courgette (about 2 whole ones) and about 6 Tomatoes and lovely fresh basil and coriander, oh and Onion with my fish (Rainbow Trout)...yum....I know still far off the 10 f&V but hohum....!
I did get round to bounce a bit about on the Trampoline in the garden...and did lots of walking...that will have to do exercise wise

Franny, Greeny (was almost gonna say Granny...would have rhymed so nicely) and NQC...do you all know in person then? Hvae not officially met up wiht any mumsnetters yet....must really see if there is a meet up in Northamptonshire area at one point....have met a couple of mumsnetters by coincidence though, lol!

3andnomore · 10/07/2007 21:05

hmmm Lemon curd tarts...my SIL makes a lovely one...am not for lemoncurd really, lol....but the one she did was gorgeous

ahundredtimes · 10/07/2007 21:33

Hello all. Golly this thread moves fast - lemon curd, smoking, plum jam. I can't keep up.

Ooh we're doing a great thing here to knock the faddy eaters on the head and liven our meals a bit. We are working our way through a recipe book and the dcs have to grade the food at the end of the meal, if they don't eat it they can't grade it.

So tonight, Paella including- peas, tomato, red pepper, spring onion, onion (does this count?). If you're interested registered a 9,8 and 7. So that was good.

I've also had grapes, apple, orange and a nectarine. bananna.

NotQuiteCockney · 10/07/2007 21:47

Oh, I've had some watermelon and two giant nectarines. And there was some tomato on the burger [hopeful].

I might have some gazpatcho. Have got to go get some cottage cheese, so I can eat cold ratatouille with it tomorrow.

Boco · 10/07/2007 21:50

I actually like the smell of a faggy man. It's comforting and nostalgic. Often get the urge to nuzzle my driving instructor because he's all beardy and cigarretty.

Boco - did you read that Sensitive Child book? Is it any good? I need something to help me help ds1 out I think.

lionheart · 10/07/2007 21:56

Had one of those non-stop days where you forget to eat (except for an apple and four chocolate buttons).

NotQuiteCockney · 10/07/2007 21:59

Funny, I grew up with cigarettes, but can't stand the smell, particularly on people. A fellow co-op worker went out for a smoke today, and I couldn't stand to be in the same half of the room with him, really. Gah.

NotQuiteCockney · 10/07/2007 22:02

Ha ha, and much as I am counting on having tomorrow morning 'off', I think DS1 has chicken pox. The exposure time is right, he was very very tired and touchy and weird today, and someone else from the co-op has just come down with it too, today.

Fuck, I hope he's coming down with it now, otherwise he will have caught it today, and will get ill just before we go on holiday.

MrsCarrot · 10/07/2007 22:04

What sensitive child book? Sounds interesting. I love paella, 100x, but hardly make it for some reason. Usually have risotto

Boco - I know what you mean, the smokeiness could almost be romantic and comforting in a pipey way, I used to like dh (then dp) coming home from the pub I just don't want Dc's to see him smoking every day or be smelly when he holds the baby.

My driving instructor used to change before coming to get me. She had a cat. Swollen watering red eyes aren't very conducive to mirror signal manouver

ProjectIcarus · 10/07/2007 22:04

just ad to come in to at thread title. It's tremendous.

Boco · 10/07/2007 22:04

Oh 100 not actually totally read it yet, but i could send it to you after i have if you like, i'm sure Oliveoil wouldn't mind.

My sensitive child has had such a bad day, poor thing - upset tummy very publicly on school trip, in front of all her friends. She's so upset and quiet about it all. Giving her the day off tomorrow and will spend some time doing something nice.

FrannyandZooey · 10/07/2007 22:05

Hello everyone

3andnomore yes I almost always start a new thread on a Monday, otherwise they get too long

Thank you Boco, yes please. Am on Cod's funny bully thread bursting into tears making everyone talk to me about ds1. Is all a bit grim.

SauerKraut · 10/07/2007 22:29

Good evening. I have been too busy looking after my 84-year-old step Grandfather who has made it all the way here from Cheltenham to eat much fruit. It's been a bit better on the exercise front mind you- he insists on going out for a good shuffle every day so I have been shuffling away merrily alongside. The banana cake sounds good, must investigate that. The thread is easy to find these days, Greeny!

TooTicky · 10/07/2007 22:39

BoojaBooja make ice cream????? Is it nice?

NQC, I'd love to come for a nose but we're in Wiltshire. Not sure I'm capable of doing something like it really, though. Have my hands jolly full with 4 dcs, bit of voluntary work, veg garden and wafty ambitions

No Comment on my eating today. Must do better tomorrow but we are on unusually severe fruit rations until Friday.

TooTicky · 10/07/2007 22:40

SK, your step grandfather sounds fine. I used to have a lovely step grandfather who liked walking.

pinkspottywellies · 10/07/2007 22:50

Today I've had raisins, apple, sunblushed tomatoes and artichokes in my couscous and green beans. Not very good but have no food in the house having been away for the weekend. Going to the market tomorrow

Hope everyone's well - have skimmed through the thread (I like the title - no, I do). Franny it's not kind to joke that you're not called Franny - you'll only upset people .

BBBee · 10/07/2007 23:20

rapberries for breakfast, cucumber salad for lunch, apple on way to school pick up, tomato and basil pasta, stewed apple and balckcurrat. am slowly getting there.

Oh Boco, exact same happened to my DD (who has worked so hard to settle into school she was sick in her classroom over her class mates. Went to pick her up and she was in a strange school dress sitting on her own in a corridor and she said she had to put the dress on all by herself and the buttons were really tricky. She had been holdingit together but burst into tears the minute we got out of school. Spend few days at home and then today she went back for just the afternoon - so she saw everyone again but didn't have to deal with all those playground politics. She was really nervouds about going back but it was fine.

Hope your DD picks up soon.

Now have makings of carrot cake and museli in my kitchen but have lost my ommph to get on with it and keep reviewing things on amazon instead (very constructive.)

unknownrebelbang · 10/07/2007 23:22
