anyone else who did the Cancer Research 10k at Hampton Court? First 10k I've done in a long time and v happy that I finished and had a good run! Was v flat and uninspiring running - apart from a small stretch along the Thames Path that was pretty.
am looking for another 10k before Christmas, any ideas on where I'd find one? Have googled, but not much luck there.

sfxmum · 30/09/2007 16:30

question please -

has anyone kept running while pregnant?
TIA

chonky · 30/09/2007 17:37

Bit of a long shot - but is anyone planning to do the Swindon or Coventry 1/2s?

Gizmo · 30/09/2007 17:47

Just popping in to at Pidge.

And everyone else!

Wallace · 30/09/2007 19:51

My half marathon is in 2 weeks, but I sprained my ankle last Sunday running after ds2.

It is still not right, and I don't know whther to go out running or not. I guess I should go to doc/physio and see what they say...

DoubleBluff · 30/09/2007 20:02

BAd luck Wallace. MAybe some physio would help, you don't want to run on it if it is not right.
I am so unprepared for my half, have been to a boozy wedding yesterday and vegged al day today, not really good preparation!

chonky · 30/09/2007 20:18

Oh no Wallace . Definitely worth going to docs, they may be able to give you some decent anti-imflamms to ease it. Hope it all gets sorted for you soon.

DoubleBluff · 02/10/2007 21:02

\AAAgghhhh I cannot get motivated at alll.
It is wet and dark and I am tired and hungry and it is too late to go out for a run and it is too dark to get up early and and and....

Celery · 03/10/2007 14:15

Hi everyone,

I am now running for 30 minutes - started middle of July, able to run for 2 minutes. So, I really feel like I've finally "made it". However, I'm feeling very run down at the moment, so only managing about twice a week, and Doublebluff - you are so right about the dark evenings and mornings - they've come as a bit of shock! Really hoping to get motivated, manage to avoid winter bugs and colds and get out 3 times a week over the winter.

DebitheScot · 04/10/2007 09:17

Hi, not been on here for a while, work has been very busy and never seem to have time anymore. Still getting out at least twice a week for a decent run and then last night I took running club at school and did the session with them. Some horrible acceleration things (Jog ~50 m, stride ~50m, sprint ~ 50m, walk ~100m then do it again. 8 times in total) and then a couple of laps of the school which is about 2k total.
I'm thinking I'm nearly ready for the 10k next Sunday, did 5.25 miles in 50 mins on Sunday but I don't know if I'll get out for a run again this week. We've got a very busy weekend. Then I'm not sure what I should do next week, I don't want to do too much and end up being tired.

Hana where do you live? There's a 10K that I'm hoping to do at Loseley house near Guildford on Sunday 4th November. Looks like a good one with some of it on tracks and in nice countryside.

westerngirl · 05/10/2007 18:37

sfxmum,

I am very interested in your query too. I used to run regularly and gave it up for around 10 weeks when discovered I was pregnant.

I have started to do a little again, ca 3/4 K. I drink lots of cool H2O before, during and after running. Do not do much of an incline or speed (use treadmill). I don't know when I'll give up and walk and swim instead. Am on the lookout for some sort of belly support.

Are you interested for the future or is it relevant now?

mamamoo · 06/10/2007 19:45

Not been on for a few weeks as very imulsively put offer in for another house not so far away , had offer accepted to our suprise and then now faced with having to sell my hubbys house (one we live in) and my flat which we rent out. House up for sale this week so spending all my time cleaning!!!

Supposed to be running cancer 10k tomorrow but giving my number to someone else now. Feeling VERY fat and unfit just now tho.

To queries re. running whilst pregnant. I sought a LOT of medical opinions re. this one and was told IS safe as long as keep heartbeat below 140. Nevertheless I mc preg 1 two days after doing a long run (was training for a marathon so was 18 miles!!!) may be unconnected but I still wonder.

pg no 2 I did run for the first trimester and did up to 10 miles very slowly but I developed what I though was a groin strain and went I went to see a physio was told it was SPD. I ended up on crutches and unable to walk by about 24 weeks. Again don't know if the running made me more likely to get SPD or if I would have got it anyway.

Need to catch up on all the posts and who is new etc

TheDuchessOfCorpseBride · 06/10/2007 20:00

Hello everyone! I've been absent too because I'm pregnant again. Which conveniently seems to be the current topic!

Despite Augusts m/c, I was going to continue running a gentle 2-3k twice a week but I currently feel so sick that getting the DCs to school is as much as I can manage. When the sickness passes I may well feel too large to run but will power walk instead. I'll be gutted to lose all my newly found fitness!

My GP said it was OK to run until the bump was being shaken and not to get out of breath.

Celery · 07/10/2007 07:48

Many congrats, Duchess.

Mamamoo, chances are you would have developed SPD anyway. I had it in my last two pregnancies, and I've never done any proper exercise until this year.

DoubleBluff · 07/10/2007 17:33

Thats good news Duchess. If I was pg I think I would hang up my trainers for a while!
In fact I may as well do that myself the amoont of running i have done in the last few weeks is really not worth talking about.

DebitheScot · 10/10/2007 16:38

Congrats Duchess. I'm hoping to have the to run or not to run when pregnant dilemma soon so keep us informed of what you decide to do.

Well I've got my 10k on Sunday and haven't done a lot this last couple of weeks. I had been so good until last week. Did 5.25 miles last Monday and then a running club training session on Wed and not done much since. Had a busy weekend then got a horrid cold so thats not helped. I went out for half an hour on Monday and tried to go today (during running club) but my head is thumping coz of my sinuses so didn't do anything. Will hopefully get a good run in on Friday and that'll have to do. Haven't done quite 6 miles yet. Hope its ok.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 10/10/2007 16:50

Erm I have my 10k a week on Saturday. I haven't been out in 10 days and won't be going until Sunday. Eeek. Methinks I may have to walk a bit of it.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 10/10/2007 16:51

Oh and congrats Norks

Wallace · 13/10/2007 14:13

Congratulations Norks

I won't be doing my half marathon tomorrow because of my sprained ankle 5 months training, then this!

Never mind, I have my eyes on a 10 mile in december...

Good luck to those running tomorrow - I'm sure I remember somebody was doing a half the same day as me.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 13/10/2007 17:44

I ran 7.3 k in 52mins today. My longest run ever. Have a 10k at the end of Dec.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 13/10/2007 19:25

I did 6 miles today (bit of a walk in the middle). Having not run at all for two weeks I was quite pleased. I'll make it round next week but Paula Radcliffe I won't be Dh is on crutches now; has his cartlidge repaired yesterday so my only exercise this week is fetching and carrying for him!

DebitheScot · 14/10/2007 13:47

I did it!!!! 58:35

So impressed that I got in under the hour esp as I am still full of the cold and hadn't done much for 2 weeks.

It was hard work but not too bad. It being 2 laps was actually ok. I thought it'd be horrid but it was actually ok, in some ways it was good to know what was coming and there was a couple of points where it didn't seem that long since we'd been there before. The race was a triangle so every time we turned onto the next side I ticked off another 1/6 of it. The end was up a short but steep hill and that was really hard but I hung on mainly due to my stronger friend who ran it all at my pace just to help me. I was so happy when I saw the car at the end with the clock on its roof and it said 58 mins. Couldn't believe it! I'm still buzzing

Wallace · 14/10/2007 13:58

Well done!!!

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 14/10/2007 16:39

Yay - well done Deb. Fab time

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 21/10/2007 16:38

Did my 10k this morning.

Fab weather and surroundings. Managed 67.01 - the lack of training told especially as it was mixed terrain and a big hill. I felt seriously knackered at the end. Will beat it next year
