For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I've made nut butters - you can add a bit of yeast extract dissolved in hot water if you want it to be savoury. Helps with texture too sometimes.

And mashed banana is for cakes, slices for sandwiches. Although dd1 always wants mashed banana with honey when she's not feeling well.

NotQuiteCockney · 06/07/2007 12:56

I think I might be getting over something. On the good side, I have gotten some big things done this morning (dealt with recycling dinosaur problem, figured out hotel booking, found possible very very silly car rental for holiday).

NotQuiteCockney · 06/07/2007 12:57

Watermelons make me wee. I can't stand any other melons, so don't know about them.

Oh, I've had a sandwich with a giant tomato (ate the bits that wouldn't fit into the sandwich).

MrsCarrot · 06/07/2007 13:00

Actually, Franny, my friend says she was there on the crowns, but Claire was doing wands so you probably saw her, tall, long thick dark hair, could have been reddish, or pinkish!

The Fairyland Trust lost money that day, maybe because of the rain, so they all didn't take their pay, think they love doing it though and really believe in the ethos.

1 peach, 1 banana (very much whole and intact!) and 1 kiwi. Having tomato soup in a bit.

FrannyandZooey · 06/07/2007 13:05

Yes bright pink hair, with big false eyelashes? LOL they all looked fab.

oh, forgot about my lunch, as we are talking about Bananas, dh was in Pancake mood, and he is ace at making them So, had, of course to eat, erm, 2...I mean, not to would have been rude and I did my favourite...topped with chocolate spread and sliced Banana....hmmmmmmmmm.....I am sure those 2 bananas will still count as doing a little bit good....
but am starting to dread to go to my WW meeting on Tuesday, lol...and I had such a good loss last week, sigh....

NotQuiteCockney · 06/07/2007 14:50

The manic thing is really back again.

Bizarrely, it seems to include hallucinations this time, the most daunting being that ... well ... that you lot are talking about fairies. I don't know what my subconscious is up to some days ...

pinkspottywellies · 06/07/2007 15:23

Oh yummy! Chocolate and banana pancakes
I've had raisins, apple, roasted veg and philly sandwich (mmmm) with sunblushed tomatoes, mini gerkins, artichoke, cherry tomato (just 1 again!), olives and cucumber.
Still haven't tried banana & peanut butter - might wait for MrsC to take the plunge first!
Franny most of yesterdays were full portions adding up to 10 altogether (I ate a LOT! I was cleaning and bored!)
Might be a bit scarce over the weekend - I'm going away to my Dad's but will try to eat healthily (although I've got chocolate in the car for the drive where I should have prepared a bag of nuts and dried fruit ) Hope everyone has a good weekend

ahundredtimes · 06/07/2007 17:09

Today i bought some great shoes. I haven't eaten anything but I have bought some great shoes. Now I feel completely chipper about boring wedding in Coventry, as I have great shoes. Tra la la la la.

ahundredtimes · 06/07/2007 17:11

Oh, and erm, sorry, hope everyone who feel rubbish feels better soon.

NotQuiteCockney · 06/07/2007 17:17

I took the boys out for ice cream, but couldn't face eating it, myself. Too scared of the sugar rush . It was a really nice ice cream, place too.

I'm making a giant batch of ratatouille for dinner. If this manic thing becomes normal, I'm going to have to start eating lots of nuts or something. I normally have a wicked sweet tooth, and normally end up probably averaging one sweet thing per day (home-made cake, ice cream, whatever), but if I can't stand to eat sweet things, and I'm twitching and running about, I'm going to have to make up calories somewhere!

TooTicky · 06/07/2007 17:33

Nuts are good NQC. I love having brazils in the cupboard.

SauerKraut · 06/07/2007 17:36

Pumpkin seeds with raisins are great as a nibble, too, NQC.

FrannyandZooey · 06/07/2007 18:18

My banana cake is pretty good for calories, and it hasn't got any processed sugar in...I think you've got the recipe

100 at least link to or describe the shoes. Fgs. How can you not EAT?

PSW your sandwich sounds amazing. I am eating dinner but I wish I was eating your sandwich.

3andnomore the pancakes sound fab and I think marital harmony and enjoying yourself is more important than what they think of you at WW

Greensleeves · 06/07/2007 18:20

Nuts and seeds are full of essential fatty acids and Omega 3 and all that jazz too which is miraculous for stabilizing mood etc

Sorry you're still feeling jittery NQC, pity about the ice cream

Greensleeves · 06/07/2007 18:21

I have been to the doc today and been told "Good God, your pulse rate is through the roof, what's the matter with you?" . So my amytriptyline dosage has been increased and he wants me to switch to something stronger if it doesn't stop the bloody panic attacks [pissed off]

FrannyandZooey · 06/07/2007 18:24

Ah shite

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 06/07/2007 18:35

Oh God, that sucks Greeny. I've had panic attacks, although not for ages and ages, and they're so unpleasant. I thought I was dying, the first few times.

I'm not having panic attacks, or even a racing heart (that I've noticed), I'm just jittery. I'm trying to harness this urge for good, I did clear up a recycling problem that has been bugging me for months today.

MrsCarrot · 06/07/2007 19:23

Sorry to everyone who's feeling crap, there seems to be a lot of anxst/manic/down feelings rearing up at the moment, I wonder if it has anything to do with the blue moon last weekend?
I keep getting patches of labarynthitis (yes, it is a real condition), to do with the inner ear, feels like you're falling throught the floor all of a sudden, or the world is not quite there, seeing things out of the corner of your eyes etc. It's not severe but it's very disorientating.

Have just eaten four rice cakes with peanut butter and sliced banana and it's not bad, not bad, guess it was quite morish as I got to four but I feel a bit sick now, slightly banoffee pie like.

Boco - yes, dc's are going to the fairy thing in Sheringham but I am going to a wedding. I would rather go there, it's DD's friend's birhday party with a big picnic, loads of us going and they've had workshops booked for yonks, but I can't get out of it really. Sounds mean, I used to spend a lot of time with this girl at art school but I've barely seen her since and don't feel terribly close but I can't not go, she'd be upset I think, so I'm going with Lo and dh is taking them. Your DD would love it I'm sure!

Toot - what symptoms have you got that make you want to give up wheat or is it a general purge?

I've had brown rice with courgettes, spinach, mushrooms, onion and lots of coriander, and plenty of banana!

BBBee · 06/07/2007 19:24

nqc - would you count your carrot cake as a veg portion?

BBBee · 06/07/2007 19:25

fairy thing in sherrinngham looks lovely but we too are at a wedding.

We are off to sherringham camping (?) in the summer - shame it doesn't coincide.

NotQuiteCockney · 06/07/2007 19:26

Oh, yes, I'd count carrot cake, I guess. There's quite a bit of carrot in it, and some pineapple, too. And raisins.

To get more than a portion of F+V from it, you'd have to eat alarming amounts of it.

MrsC, you have my sympathy. I get labyrinthitis sometimes, after a head cold. It's gotten better over the years, I often just get it for a couple of hours now. You know that avoiding caffeine, and avoiding turning your head sharply, makes it less acute while it's happening, right?

FrannyandZooey · 06/07/2007 20:38

I had labyrinthitis while pregnant, or so they said

reading about it on here, it sounds abysmal - I am not sure if I had it at all. You have my sympathies anyway MrsC

Have had curry with courgettes, carrot, raisins, chickpeas, cauli and broccoli.

OP posts:
SauerKraut · 06/07/2007 20:52

Did you get your throat seen to, Greensleeves?
I have had 2 peaches, apple, loads of dried fruit with nuts and seeds, (including dried banana and no, I didn't mash it with peanut butter), ratatouille, lettuce, broccoli and yesterday's left-over chickpea thingy. And instead of my daily massive overdose of crap, I have had 2 large squares of Lindt and Sprungli dark chocolate with orange.

FrannyandZooey · 06/07/2007 21:00

I've just spotted Lullabyloo who seems to have forgotten us

Lullaby! COOOEEEEEEEE! Over here
