For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

There's something very mucousy about a mashed banana...

SauerKraut · 05/07/2007 21:51

Greensleeves, if you wouldn't mind, I would value your opinion on a thread of mine- how to deal with my extremely strong-willed 5 year old in a non-smacking manner. It's called "People who don't smack- could I run something past you?" I have been given some good ideas already, but would like to hear what you would do, as you've mentioned one of yours is strong-willed too.

MrsCarrot · 05/07/2007 21:56

ooh, all ears for strong willed five year olds

SauerKraut · 05/07/2007 22:00

I have spoilt mine, Mrs C- not good! She is the last of 4, the others are 10,9 and 8, so I suppose we have all spoilt her!

MrsCarrot · 05/07/2007 22:12

cor, you crammed them in! Mine are 9, 5 and 5 months, very spaced out, expect Lo will be babied a bit too. DD has a LOT of attitude but she's lovely.

I didn't manage 10 yesterday, I'm sure. I had a tiny bit of pasta and pesto, which probably doesn't count, anyway, and then felt quite unwell. Probably the exhaustion thing.

But I had over 9 hours of sleep last night, and feel ready to face the day, unless I have to eat anything.

Well, I'll get the exercise today, anyway.

FrannyandZooey · 06/07/2007 08:17

Oh good I am glad you slept well, NQC. Sorry about the other stuff - I hope today is not too taxing.

Boco are you very disappointed still? How would you have got on without dd (and vice versa), have you been away on your own before?

TooT I bet people's gardens and letterboxes are a pain. I remember a 'friend' bitching because she had let her dog bite the postman and the postman actually dared to be pissed off about this and said she would be hearing from them

LOL at 100x's steak... I suppose they didn't have "brie and coffee" as a main course

PSW you are doing brilliantly! Now, just to make sure you are getting the most from this, check the portion sizes in the link in the OP, to make sure you are getting the full 10 (eg 1 kiwi, 1 tomato etc is not a full portion). Are you feeling any differences yet? My skirts are all looser which I am happy about. I should be able to wear my summer clothes from last year at this rate, if we ever need summer clothes, anyway....

MrsC please explain re Mr Turberville. He sounds worth hearing more about. Oh, ds is still wearing his fairy wings, and we are disappointed we didn't meet your friends! I said to dp "One of my friends on MN knows those fairies", and he muttered something like "should have known it" and smirked to himself

SK I am doubting myself about the almond butter now. I am not sure if they are one of the ones that grind up well. I will shortly find out myself, as we have bulk ordered almonds instead of ground almonds from Suma. I do know that pine nuts go well, and cashews. Oh I also was trying to be funny when I called people who mash bananas freaks, sorry. The line between being rude and being funny is sometimes too fine for me

Greeny a pint of orange juice? Were you hungover?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 06/07/2007 08:19

Oh have eaten 2 kiwis, 2 nectarines, melon and raisins. Ds is currently eating jelly for breakfast. There is a good reason, but for the moment it escapes me...

Franny - strangely enough, one of the fairies is coming for a cup of tea in a minute! I don't think she did the Essex one but her little sisters were there. She also thinks I may have trouble getting Suma to do it as I have a supplier down the road, probably for similar reasons that Aviatrix mentions. I do understand it, though I need to save money! She says I may be able to 'invisibly' tack on to their collective through her, though the group has said no more members.

Mr Turberville was my French teacher at Halesworth Middle school, we had to get the us there when I lived in Southwold. He was a character. We had a Paris trip and he ate LOT of banana sandwiches, mushy ones, ew.

No fruit as yet, busy making buns, gluten dairy free ones too, hope they sell!

MrsCarrot · 06/07/2007 10:18

BUS

BBBee · 06/07/2007 10:26

I had such good intentions but have both children of shool with upset tummies (guess what I have been clearing up all night!)

So am now on the ball with the whole eating thing - feel terrible and the moment the sickness subsided I forced down one or two jaffa cakes and a coffee - not good (jaffa cakes = orange, coffee = beans no?)

So am still lurking and will jump on board as soon as my life is normal agaion.

Boco - poor bocs, good about your grandad though and your night of books and sleep will come soon.

TnOgu · 06/07/2007 10:32

[sorry to hijack]

Bishy, thanks

Don't want to bump the other threads, but you have been kind to me and I appreciate it.

I have eaten a handful of raspberries and 3 strawberries.

Will try and do better.

3andnomore · 06/07/2007 11:11

HI All...well...so far had 2 Peaches, 1 Kiwi and 1 Banana, will probably have a Melon again at lunchtime (Galia again, still on special offer), but then don't know, as I am working from 2.30pm to 10.30pm and we eat with teh Kids (Residnetial care home for children), so, have to eat what is there...hohum!
Done my exercise though, Kate Cardio Combat DVD...so, that is out of the way
Looks like most people are doing really well...but lol at the mashed Banana thing...yikes...makes me green in the face and it's not because of envy, lol.....my mum used to mash banana up for me, when I was a child and added some tablet I had to take....so, it always brings that memory back....shudder...!

Boco · 06/07/2007 12:00

Tnogu hope you're feeling ok today. I really think that BS is someone name changing to be funny - not genuine as is messing about - but maybe just misjudged a bit and was creepy. Not wrong of you to be a bit freaked, but i don't think you should worry.

BBB - hope you're feeling better and you're children too.

Franny, i've been away over night - never a whole weekend. Oh well. One day. DD2 up at 5.30 this morning, shouting, and as she bounced on me singing i did feel a little bitter about it being off again, but never mind.

Not eaten anything yet today, just had coffee. Got a headache in my teeth and just not feeling like food. Hope there's no bugs around, dd now in bed having flaked out already.

Mrs C are you going to the fairy thing in sherringham? my sister is taking neice and has offered to take dd aswell if the workshops aren't all booked up. Sounds great.

SauerKraut · 06/07/2007 12:00

Doh. Have walked from home to town, which is a long way, but have had 2 cups of double-strenght Italian coffee and 2 buns today so far. I did look around in a freakily for a banana to mash for a peanut butter sandwich but was confronted with an empty fruit bowl. It all disappears so quickly with 6 people in the house. Shall have ratatouille for tea to make up.
Thanks, Aviatrix- have looked up for 5 mins to post here! I saw the other thread on another parenting guru, what's his name again- that looks as if it might be helpful too, so my nose shall be stuck for a long time to come!
Sorry people are ill, it seems unfair in the summer, somehow, after struggling through the winter.

SauerKraut · 06/07/2007 12:02

in a freakily, WTF, lost the plot for a minute there- in a freaky manner, FFS!!

NotQuiteCockney · 06/07/2007 12:02

I've had cereal with dried fruit today and that's it. I seem to be fasting. I think I may have a tummy bug. I feel ok, though.

Probably ratatouille for dinner here, too.

I have my MIL visiting tomorrow, and there's a school fete for DS1's school. Not sure what else is up. I might try to go running with DS1 on his bike this weekend ...

FrannyandZooey · 06/07/2007 12:33

Sorry you aren't feeling well NQC and Boco

Avi yes I have tried hazelnuts and walnuts to no avail. Cashews and pine nuts definitely work, though. Suma would only deliver to one address, that of the account holder - after that you work out how the stuff gets distributed. Organic chickpeas are £7.90 the dozen, org tinned toms are £5.55 the dozen.

MrsC I don't see why Suma would have a problem delivering to you. We have a few Suma stockists in town, but anyone with over £250 of stuff (I checked, it is £250, or slightly more in the SW or in Ireland or Scotland) can make an order with them.

BBB feel free to lurk or post even if not achieving your 10. You are always welcome.

TnOgu sorry I don't know what has been happening but I hope you are ok.

3andnomore, all these melons! Don't you wee like a hoss?

SK you freaky freak

Have eaten baked beans with kidney beans in. Fruit box delivery particularly nice this week - peaches, strawberries and grapes along with the usual shitey apples

OP posts:
Boco · 06/07/2007 12:45

We have a whole bowl full of shitey apples - the ones with a slightly furry taste.

TooTicky · 06/07/2007 12:48

Raisins, tomato, cuc, half an orange. Waiting for fruit'n'veg delivery.
Yes, MrsC, I meant bumping into you on the thread (travelling to the other side of the country just to talk about wheat might be considered a little excessive) I'm just wondering if I'm heading for a wheat intolerance of some kind, and wondering how to decrease our reliance on wheat.

TooTicky · 06/07/2007 12:49

We get nice apples [smug] Hate the furry ones - can you cook them?

3andnomore · 06/07/2007 12:51

Franny, no melons don't make me wee....are they meant to have that effect...can't say I ever noticed it, no matter which melons I eat....I love melons, but they often are so expensive, especially as I am a greedy so and so, and will generally eat a whole one at a time....unless of course it's watermelon...lol...
Boco, sorry you don't feel that great.
NQC hope you are not coming down wiht anything...last thing you need I would think (not that one ever needds tummybugs, of course...)
