For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information if you follow the link at the very bottom of the page

Mrscarrot · 18/06/2007 21:48

ooh, milk cream yoghurt I miiiissss them, there was a thread about favourite things earlier, a superior fish finger sandwich would be my choice, sigh, if only wheat was a good thing.

Little carrot's ear still red, was back at surgery today but he had my appointment at cranial ost so hopefull that will help.

He thinks dairy/wheat should be avoided for the first year and as I plan to feed at least that long I guess I have to wave a long goodbye to the lurpak..

Natural foods, hmmm

oats, passion fruit mango smoothie, rice, nori seaweed, beetroot, carrot, pepper, corn, cucumber, pickled ginger, two nectarines, cherries, potatoes, chickpeas, houmous, olive oil, green beans, broccoli, tomatoes, basil, red onion, peach, apple, fennel tea (x3)

think that might be 26 ish, not sure if the tea counts

Right - end of day one for me. I had - apple juice, apricots, cherry tomatoes, grapes, sultanas, stir fry (different types of mushroom, carrots, cabbage, onions). Didn't have the fruit salad in the end but also didn't have a biscuit or cake as I normally would.

I've just had some nuts and raisins as I was feeling peckish....

I'm at work from 1pm to 9pm tomorrow so I'll have to be a bit creative.

I hope I can keep up the momentum!

he is pulling at it, it's irritating him but I don't think it's painful like it was last week.

Some people think I'm cruel not giving him the AB but if it's a virus what's the point? This gp agrees and says he's probably feeding more and pulling at it because there's still fluid in the eustacian tube.

Hopefully the CO appointment today will help a bit. He's shown me this weird ear draining thing I can do, sort of bending it and twisting, sounds horrible but it's fine, he did it on me

Mrscarrot · 18/06/2007 21:57

it's not out of the question for teeth to be starting to play up too..

Mrscarrot · 18/06/2007 21:58

but in the meantime I'm very tired, extra night feeding

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2007 22:06

Nannyogg fantastic! What a great first day

can you check in tomorrow at work? We will try to cheer you on

MrsC sorry to hear about Lurpak deprivation and continued red ear. I don't know about the tea either, we need Dr Beary

TooTicky · 18/06/2007 22:17

MrsC, if you stay off dairy for a while you may well go right off it
Potato and spiced onion pasty for lunch, courgette, red pepper, carrot, onion and garlic risotto for dinner. Plain soya yog with apple puree, honey and cinnamon - yum!
Getting over scary television interview this afternoon - really hoping they don't put it on the news but will have to watch just in case.

update....mixed raw nuts &cranberries, pear, lots of pomegranette sp? juice.

anorak · 19/06/2007 12:12

Just had avocado on toast plus a peach and some almonds for lunch.

Lullyboo do you eat like that all the time or are you on a kick? Most impressive.

TooTicky · 19/06/2007 13:16

Franny, it was just a local news thing - our local ethical, fair trade shop had their window smashed recently and the owner is getting up a campaign to change the law so that criminals would be liable for the damage they cause, rather than the victims.
Had brazil nuts and raisins for breakfast, took dd2 into Bath and we treated ourselves to one of the delicious wholemeal, seeded rolls with magic fillings from Harvest - coronation spinach today which involved spinach, alfalfa, tomato, cucumber, chick peas, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, linseeds, vegan mayo and spices.

lionheart · 19/06/2007 14:42

Am eating one big thing (pineapple minus the sticky up bit) instead of 26 little ones today.

But I am watching this experiment too.

nannyogg · 19/06/2007 15:21

So far today I've had:

dried sultanas with cereal and apple juice for breakfast.

Sandwich for lunch followed by fruit salad of melon, kiwi, blueberries, orange and...pomegranate...(ooo get me).

As I'm at work and pushed for time I'm having a tin of soup for tea followed by some grapes and a packet of cashew nuts and dried mango to munch on.

Lullabyloo · 19/06/2007 15:23

Franny...sorry post was probably a little confusing...I dont mix the quinoa with the fruit as dont mix fruit & grains
I simmer the quinoa in some vegetable bouillon & then add toasted sesame seeds, the fruit salad i had half an hour later

Anorak..started eating healthily & became interested in nutrition the minute I became pregnant with ds....however in Feb this year I gave up red meat(was veggie for 11 yrs),wheat & dairy & started an exercise regime too as was incredibly lazy

have just had carrot, celery ,ginger & apple juice

Mrscarrot · 19/06/2007 15:32

Tooticky- coronation spinach sounds absolutely delicious! So you have some local places to get tasty stuff?

Talcy- hope the, um, wind improves

Lullabyloo- that sounds like an extraordinarily healthy day so far. I love quinoi, the flaked stuff I use to mix in with porridge but my favourite is the wholegrain one as a salad. Tip it hot onto loads of mixed herbs, olive oil, lemon or lime and spring onions and it's gorgeous as a side dish with felafel and houmous. Mmm. Dc's like it too.

I have had hazelnuts, banana, 2 nectarines and bluberries for breakfast. Mixed beansprouts, carrots, red onion, apple, celery, cucumber, tomato for lunch, then strawberries and dried apricots (7).

Cappuccino · 19/06/2007 17:04

i have had carrot sticks and houmous and sugar snaps

and a massive salad

and I will drag something out of the fridge tonight to go with my trout maybe spring greens

franny I diced up my squash with olive oil and roasted it and had it with spring greens and an organic lamb steak it was the best meal I've had in ages yum yum

am v interested in natural foods do oats and rice milk count? what about brown rice?

I have just for the first time made my own yogurt with a yogurt maker I got off freecycle. I am a bit nervous about the taste of it. Is home-made yogurt a natural food?
