Eats Fruits and Leaves - 10 / 10 club - all welcome

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information if you follow the link at the very bottom of the page

Oh meant to say, I slept for another 9 hours last night, even after the sofa interlude. I am getting the impression I was a bit tired.

NotQuiteCockney · 24/06/2007 08:46

I will try to come back on here next week, I promise.

I've been doing v well with fruit and veg anyway, though. It's pea season, plus I'm hooked on gazpatcho, which I make by the litre and drink every day. Oh, and loads of salads, too. And cherries.

It's all been a zoo, though, I had a completely deranged manic episode this week, and am still feeling a bit shaky and alarmed and worried whether my neurochemicals are about to pull another rabbit out of the hat. Oh, and DS2 is potty training, as of last night. Apparently.

FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2007 08:55

Shit NQC have you had manic episodes before? What happened?

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 24/06/2007 09:28

It wasn't a manic episode in the clinical 'take drugs, sleep with strangers' way. I just felt really wrong and started a thread about it. I did sleep.

I am generally hyper (you'll be startled to hear), anyway, and used to go a bit manic sometimes, but normally only for a short time, and normally I could see what had caused it. This was out of the blue, and went on for three days.

It was nice to have a feeling of energy, but manic does not really work for childcare, I didn't have the necessary calm and patience, really.

NotQuiteCockney · 24/06/2007 09:29

Here.

Boco · 24/06/2007 10:04

Oh NQC hope you're feeling better and calmer and that this doesn't keep happening. My brother has been dx as bipolar, but not classic sypmtoms - he doesn't have the depression, but he gets very jittery and anxious and can't sit down. Had a really bad few days where he literally couldn't sit or go to bed, just paced and had huge panic attacks. He's taking citalopram which has levelled him out - but i'm not sure how it'll pan out as part of him misses the buzzy energy - he says it enables him to make things and do things and write and paint and socialise. He's hard to be around when he's high though, he never stops talking.

Franny have your mates left, or just not been around for a bit? It seems like people often feel that its boring and it was better when their mates were around - there've always been threads saying that.

I have had a fantastic start to the day - muesli and yoghurt with chopped strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and grapes in. And if dd2 doesn't hurry up i'll eat hers too.

FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2007 10:14

Oh, NQC, sorry to read that. I hope it was a one off and doesn't recur. LOL at "I am generally hyper (you'll be startled to hear)"

Boco don't get me wrong, it's still an entertaining place, and there are some fab new people around such as yourself and 100x, but for me it used to be where I could come, and there would always be one of my old muckers here to gas with. HC, Greeny and Filly are almost never here now, and I don't seem to co-incide much with people like NQC and Pruni and Aitch and so on. Or they just aren't here much, I don't know. I am holidaying with HC and Greeny over the summer though, so I am looking forward to that.

And this thread is still great, and I have a lot of fun on here.

NQC- I go through periods of intense anxiety, I think they're often, but not always, connecetd to different times in the cycle, for me anyway. I find it a relief that I recognise the start of things now, it seems half the battle as observing the beginning somehow almost makes me see the end? Well, at least I know it will have an end anyway, the worst times were always thinking it would be like that forever. Not sure that makes sense. Hope you feel better.

How funny about the four month thing. I moved in properly in February or so, although I asked some pregnancy questions last year, I never looked at the rest of the site. Not sure if I have a lull as such, but definitely have just become aware of the cyclality (word?) of topics, and have thought maybe time for a rest when I'm refreshing active convos in a zoned out manner. Thinking maybe just the weekends...

Two enormous bowls of fruit salad so far, watermelon, strawbs, rasps, bluberries, apple, banana, grapes, pineapple, melon and pear.

Coconut is a seed isn't it?

Franny, which Frances are you reading? DD got A Little Princess out on dvd from the library yesterday. We've just watched it again. Needn't mention book comparisons of course but she enjoyed it.

Toot- (I like this abbreviation too) You can get mixed semi-precious stones in cloth bags can't you, or indeed it probaby cheaper and easier to put them in a cloth bag. I can give you some links to some great wooden/natural toy sites but they're not cheap. Are you very crafty, how about making a doll a la Steiner?
The photo album sounds a lovely idea.

Boco · 24/06/2007 11:01

Toot we got dd2 a pop up postoffice / shop - basically a tent with a clock and a serving hatch and letterbox. It comes with big letters to post. My dds have it up in the garden and play houses, shops, camping, all sorts - and if its raining they put it up in the sitting room and have picnics in it. It folds down really small and packs away in a bag. Think it was from Letterbox.

MrsC i joined in feb too. The zombie refresh mode is bad isn't it.

Mrscarrot · 24/06/2007 11:07

God, yes, Dh has actually e-mailed me from upstairs before as he thought he might get more response electronically . He reckons I just grunt at him if he tries to talk when I'm writing a post.

There's something comforting about the whole thing, like eating cake while staring a a spot in the distance, you know it's not really good for you, but you can't or won't think about it to stop.

FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2007 11:42

MrsC it was A Little Princess. I haven't read it since having children, and I found the bit where she and her father have to say goodbye terribly hard

Avi please ask away if you think I can help. Yes I have been very lucky meeting such fab people on here. We don't live that near but can all get to London so usually see each other there. Haven't seen either Greeny or HC for so long though, I feel a bit strange about it and hope we are not starting to drift apart. Ds is terribly excited about seeing their dcs again soon, too.

I don't watch any TV, so I don't feel too exceptionally guilty about all the time I spend on here. At least I am interacting with this screen, and in between all the dull bits there are absolute gems of hilarity, and things that have been very personally meaningful to me.

Aitch · 24/06/2007 12:45

btw i did agree with you about that thing that we both weren't in love with, sexuality-wise. although pan criticised me for threatening physical violence again.

went to see a Globe touring production of Romeo and Juliet on friday. performed in the local uni quadrangles, i think you'd have liked it. (because we got to eat chocolate cake and drink from a thermos flask of coffee throughout... theatre is so much more civilised if you can take a pickernic, i reckon.)

Aitch · 24/06/2007 12:45

i was hoping that would bring back a few heady memories.

FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2007 12:47

Last outdoor Shakespeare I went to see, I ended up leaving half way through, as it was so bad. No cake there, though.

OP posts:
Aitch · 24/06/2007 12:51

oh no this was really charming. although there's always something about shakespearean romance acting that reminds me of childrens' tv presenters. juliet was a dead ringer for sarah-jane. [confident that franny won't have the fogggiest]

it was also raining to bein with so there was a real dunkirk spirit thing going on, with lots of lending of umbrellas and huddling with strangers. actually you'd have hated it.

FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2007 12:52

oooh no no it sounds marvellous now, and I was going to say it sounds terribly British
