'Mass' showing on dMass showing on MRI brain scan - please help

After fruitless visits to the GP with my daughter (age 17) about her crippling headaches, we were sent to the hospital after a regular eyesight test when an optician saw swelling behind her optic lenses (Thursday). She had an MRI scan yesterday morning which showed a 6cm mass to the front right hand of the brain. DD currently in hospital having steroid treatment to reduce some of the swelling around the mass so that they can properly assess the type of mass before discussing options. Devastated and so anxious as to what might happen next. Has anyone experienced anything similar and can help me make sense of this all? I'm really struggling and feel so alone (I have 5 other children and was widowed 2 years ago). Thank you.

Sorry I’ve no experience but couldn’t not reply. That must be so stressful for you and your dd, have you anyone you can talk to and can support you.

I used to nurse at the National Neurological hospital at Queen’sSquare in London. There are some really god outcomes for brain masses, even though this initial stage must have shocked you to the core.
I’ve seen lots of people treated either surgically or medically make good recoveries.
Hope you are getting all the information you herd, and that things turn out well for you and your family x

My friend had a large brain tumour - it was repeated, awful headaches that drove her to the doctor. It was benign. She had an operation to remove it and she is absolutely fine now. Keeping everything crossed for you .

Thank you 😊 The operation to remove it is scheduled for Friday; they can't tell by looking at the MRI images if it's malignant or benign, so we won't know until after the biopsy. Just taking one day at a time at the moment x

I too know of people who have had very good outcomes after a mass in the brain.

Dd is coping as well as a 17 year old copes! Very bored, but also very anxious and asking the difficult questions - 'So I won't die then'? I think that what we're going through now is nothing compared to the wait for the biopsy results next week!

It must be awful for all of you. Waiting is definitely the worst part. Will be thinking of you.

Hope everything went well today, I have a 17 year old daughter with a rare condition in her brain that has caused her lots of problems so I know a little of what your going through.

Unfortunately the surgery was postponed as the mobile MRI scanner used straight after the procedure is broken So all very stressful and looking at next week, or at the latest the following one. The consultant did say from what he has seen on the latest scan that he thinks it's a glioma (slow growing one) which can mean all sorts, but won't know until after they've looked at a biopsy once removed.

Oh that's really tough diege as if things weren't difficult enough! I hope they can do the op as soon as possible next week. The wait must be so difficult.

How awful for her and you of course. Has she to stay in hospital meantime? I hope they can operate soon and successfully 

I've just taken her back in today and waiting to hear what the plan is. Just want it done now really!
