'Mass' showing on dMass showing on MRI brain scan - please help

After fruitless visits to the GP with my daughter (age 17) about her crippling headaches, we were sent to the hospital after a regular eyesight test when an optician saw swelling behind her optic lenses (Thursday). She had an MRI scan yesterday morning which showed a 6cm mass to the front right hand of the brain. DD currently in hospital having steroid treatment to reduce some of the swelling around the mass so that they can properly assess the type of mass before discussing options. Devastated and so anxious as to what might happen next. Has anyone experienced anything similar and can help me make sense of this all? I'm really struggling and feel so alone (I have 5 other children and was widowed 2 years ago). Thank you.

Thank you so much for all the lovely messages. Dd is starting week 2 of radiotherapy, 6.5 weeks in all. She'll have another MRI in May to check for regrowth and we'll take it from there.

Received a letter today (copy of that sent to consultant) explaining that they are still doing tests on exactly what type of tumour it is - best fit is an anaplastic ependymoma now (originally thought to be a oliodendroglioma) and that because it's all been removed they are 'hopeful of a cure'. A long journey ahead but wonderful words to read!

My work have been great and are letting me work from home while dd has her treatment - I am very lucky indeed that I have that option!

I'm so glad work has been kind and they are letting you work from home. I really hope your daughter gets better very soon with the treatment and she manages to keep her spirits up. I'm thinking of you all Thanks

Thank you for the lovely messages :)
We're currently on week 3 of radiotherapy and have scan booked early May when we'll see if there's been any regrowth. Scary times but just getting on, and grateful we have options.

Just to update, radiotherapy finished beginning of March and we've just had a clear MRI scan. So fingers crossed that things are heading in the right direction!

Great to see your lovely update, I’m sorry I haven’t seen your thread before.

I had a glioma removed at the Walton Centre 5 years ago, I wrote about it lots on MN at the time! I’ve been discharged now. Grin

Wishing you and your DD all the best Flowers
