Quick! To lance or not to lance, that is the question ...

I have a horrific spot in a fairly delicate place. It has been driving me fucking bonkers today, it was right on a knicker edge, and ow ow ow ow ow.

The spot isn't a white head, it's red, and weird and very very sore. Is lancing it worth doing? I've put isopropol alcohol on it, to try to dry it out ...

Hot bath. See if it forms a head.

Bubble99 · 08/06/2007 21:41

If it's that sore then I don't think you'll be able to dry it out (must be quite a bit of (sorry) pus.)

Bubble99 · 08/06/2007 21:42

Good long soak and a warm/hot flannel held directly over it to try and get a head.

Can you tell I am/was a nurse?

Bubble99 · 08/06/2007 21:43

Three posts?

Sorry, NQC, I'm getting a bit too interested in this, aren't I?

NotQuiteCockney · 08/06/2007 21:43

It's very gross and weird. There's a red bump on the skin, which is very sore. And then a hard lump under the skin which doesn't hurt at all, but is weird and gross.

Yes, it is probably a little volcano of pus waiting to come out, I just want it out now.

I don't think I can face a bath, will have shower and loofah it in the morning, I guess. I am just Too Tired.

oh dear

I am sure I read something on another thread about drawing ointment or something? It sounded really medieaval

(it was the thread about boils on your fanny if that helps track it down )

NotQuiteCockney · 08/06/2007 21:43

This is one of those nice side effects of cycling. It could be worse, I had someone take me aside for advice about fanjo chafing this week.

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 08/06/2007 21:44

meanwhile can you wear boxers or some other pants that don't hit the same spot? or go commando

NotQuiteCockney · 08/06/2007 21:44

(This is not on my fanny! Just arse. Which seems a bit better.)

OP posts:
Bubble99 · 08/06/2007 21:44

That'd be a poultice, F&Z.

And yes, it sounds a bit witchy.

FrannyandZooey · 08/06/2007 21:44

apols for spelling

am tired

NotQuiteCockney · 08/06/2007 21:44

I am deffo wearing different pants. Or commando. I think normal pants don't hit it, it was fancy weird boy pants today.

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 08/06/2007 21:44

no no it was an ointment

or something

will search

Bubble99 · 08/06/2007 21:45

Forget the bath, then. Try a hot flannel for a few minutes.

Posey · 08/06/2007 21:45

I agree with having a hot bath. Then while you're in there, stick a flannel over it and give it a bit of a squeeze. Once the pressure has been reduced by getting out whatever pus is in there it should be a lot less painful. Then smother it in savlon and stick a plaster on it overnight as it may keep on oozing a bit.

Thats what I'd do, not a medical opinion iyswim!

sugarfree · 08/06/2007 21:46

Magnesium sulphate paste.

Carmenere · 08/06/2007 21:46

It's magnesium sulfate that is good for drawing out pus

Bubble99 · 08/06/2007 21:46

Magnesium poultice is used for drawing out pus.

NotQuiteCockney · 08/06/2007 21:46

Wow, at least you all agree.

I don't think I have that stuff in the house?

OP posts:
pirategirl · 08/06/2007 21:46

i'd be striaght in a hot bath, flannels on, and then some nice oily body lotion on it, to get a head on it.

sounds painful, but couldbe a relief to get it lanced.

NotQuiteCockney · 08/06/2007 21:46

I will try a hot flannel, to see if it comes up.

"You want to get some drawing ointment (yes I know that sound barbaric but...) go to a pharmacist - it's magnesium sulphate paste. You put it on with a matchstick or similar - no not your finger - and then cover it with a plaster and it draws the impurity out of the skin. In a day or so it'll go soft and then a day later be gone (obviously keep applying it but wash it off after it's gone soft). "

allegedly

FrannyandZooey · 08/06/2007 21:47

blimey I was pipped good and proper there

Posey · 08/06/2007 21:48

Bubble99 · 08/06/2007 21:48

Well, NQC, you've certainly livened up my Friday night.
