For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information if you follow the link at the very bottom of the page

Reasonable condition paperbacks. No bends, tears, loose bits or scribble.

FrannyandZooey · 16/06/2007 07:06

I'm sorry, for some reason I was thinking of hardbacks (I don't think I knew they were in paperbacks, I don't know much about Karlsson stories)

Do you really love them? Do they have to go? Can you get an evening job? How old is dd?

Sorry I meant to say the price seems about right. I had a quick scout around, as you no doubt have done.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh i have found the 10/10 thread you talked so highly of..............right whatt do i have to do

FrannyandZooey · 16/06/2007 07:14

Ooh hello stoppin

You can read the OP for more details, but basically we are trying to eat 10 portions of fruit and veg every day, and do at least 10 minutes of exercise (link to portion sizes and what counts as fruit and veg in the OP). You can eat whatever else you want as well, as long as you get your f+v

We try to report back on what we have been eating and doing. Then we just rattle on about whatever comes in to our heads. Tis marvellous. Welcome

stoppinattwo · 16/06/2007 07:42

well when i said i have joined the gym.................weds,thurs and friday i have done 15 lengths first thing in the morning before work........apparently it is the best time to exercise as it kick starts your metabolism and you deal with calorie intake far better than if you exercise in the evening.

anyway I have been doing 15 mins of so this week, but today Im doing sooo much running around im sure there will be a continuous 10 mins somewhere, and tomorrow i have my Gym induction so thats sunday sorted.

Now about the 10 fruit!!!!! will really have to think about that, doesnt is mess with your digestion,

FrannyandZooey · 16/06/2007 07:45

You are storming on the exercise front then stoppin, no worries there

If you don't normally eat much fruit and veg then I advise you to build up slowly, otherwise yes, it will have a dramatic effect on your digestion. But in the long term it will improve it no end

OP posts:
stoppinattwo · 16/06/2007 07:50

ahhh veg too well that should be easier, it the 10 fruit n veg to substitute for other stuff and does that include potatoes (carbs??)

FrannyandZooey · 16/06/2007 07:52

You can eat how you want as long as you eat the 10 as part of it

most of us find we haven't got much room for anything else after eating all the f+v, but I mean if you want to eat 10 f+v and 6 packets of ,that is your prerogative

Potatoes don't count. See the OP for a link of what counts and doesn't

Hello Franny. I may try the Karlssons on ebay as a buy it now. I will be very sorry to see them go but not as sorry as I would to sell my Brothers Lionheart. Besides, I do have Karlsson på Taket ready for when my Swedish is good enough...
Evening job I wouldn't be that happy about as dd1, ds1 and ds2 are at school and if I didn't even see them in the evenings... and anyway dp works weird hours and usually sleeps in the evening. Besides, there is far too much to do in the evenings! Dd2 is very nearly 2.

Mrscarrot · 16/06/2007 11:51

I think I've only been averaging five or six a day recently, must try harder!

Little carrot a bit better. One doc gave him AB's, I didn't want to give them with his allergies as he's so young but was worried about the ear, then a different gp thought it was a virus and so on. He SEEMS better, and I'm really relieved we avoided them, hope it doesn't turn into a problem though. Neighbours says her daughter is deaf in one ear from untreated ear infections.

I have a confession. It's an embarrassing one. I didn't actually GET the title at first, the everyone kept saying how clever it was so I looked it up and watched it on youtube. Now it's stuck in my head

I went out for dinner last night and the chef was great, pointing out what I could and couldn't have on the menu. Puddings were tricky so he was making the honey crusted peach with pomegranate and passion fruit coulis for me, making sure it was dairy free and then I had to run home as LO was awake. Sigh. Managaed a big glass of champagen though, so all was not lost!

Mrscarrot · 16/06/2007 11:53

oh, and tooticky, sorry things are stressful for you, hope it improve soon

Could anything be sent to you that might cheer you up? Not sure the potato bread would survive the journey...

Hello MrsC, glad you avoided the ABs. Oh, and I didn't get the thread title either (had to ask dp) but wasn't brave enough to confess.
What a kind thought - you have cheered me up just thinking of sending me something
I suppose posting bread, in hot weather, with imminent postal strikes might be a bit of a worry
But if there are any eccentric millionaires out there, parcels of banknotes would be good - well, it's worth a try

TooTicky · 16/06/2007 12:19

aviatrix, I had to smile at you admiring your onion flowers - that's the sort of thing I would do.
We have planted onions (no flowers), carrots (which ds2 is very possessive over), coriander, swede, spinach, beans, purple podded peas, blue corn, parsley, two types of tomato and round yellow cucumbers. Also have lots of self-seeded dill. And the lettuce, basil, broccoli and oregano have not appeared.

Dd2 is nearly 2. Thanks for the offer but have a feeling your dc is a little younger?

Mrscarrot · 16/06/2007 13:14

Tooticky- if I come across any rich business men I will send them your way

Aviatrix- It is a difficult call, on one hand you know that AB's are terrible for the immune system, cause allergies and uspet stomachs. On the other hand, if it is bad, there can be consequences of leaving it untreated, not least feeling cruel if they're in pain. Hopefull it won't worsen, he seems ok.

I started a thread about it, and people were helpful but there was plenty of stories of how many deaf children they knew from untreated ones, and I slightly resented the post suggesting he might have caught it from poor nutrition Ahem!

Making a large salad for lunch, with avocado, alfalfa, cucumbers tomato, herbs, celery, carrots and cider vinegar.

TooT I'm sorry the evening suggestion wasn't any good, I quite see why. I was just trying to throw out any ideas I can think of, but of course you will already have considered anything possible, I am sure. I think selling them on eBay as a BIN is a very good idea. I would make sure you use the common alternative spelling (Karlson) in the title or at least in the description as well to show up on more searches. Are you a seasoned eBayer? as I am happy to offer any info that might be helpful to you if not.

MrsC and TooT, how funny that you both kept quiet about not getting the title! Very polite of you both. I will never ever think of another one this good, so we'll have to stick on this thread forever now.

MrsC glad baby carrot is rallying slightly (on a side note our carrots just poked their first leaves up today to great excitement from all of us) and very sorry that you missed your pudding. I am going out tonight (of which more in a minute) so shall try to make up for your loss.

Aviatrix, ds is due to start this September but we are going to home educate for now. Tbh I have no intentions of doing anything different than we are doing already, for the time being at least, as I think he gets more or less everything he needs from the various things we do. He can also attend nursery with full funding until July 2008 so I am planning to keep him there for a few sessions each week unless he gets sick of it. They do all the nice messing about with sand and water things that he likes and that are, as far as I am concerned, all he needs to be doing while he is 4.

more in a bit, ds kicking off

A flying post, sorry you're having a hard time, TooTicky.

I have been preparing for DS2's birthday party and made a point of eating a little of everything fruit and vegetable as I've gone along.

A very good way to make it to 10.

(My baby is 2).

FrannyandZooey · 16/06/2007 16:40

Oh happy birthday to the lioncub and to the aviatrixlet

It was Greeny's birthday yesterday and I'm going out for a meal for another friend's birthday tonight. Which I wanted to tell you about. Me and my friend can never choose which pudding to have in a restaurant and we always end up agonising that everyone else's looks nicer. Well this restaurant has a "sweetboard" which has a little bit of all the puddings on it

Today so far I have eaten pineapple, kiwis (2), a big pear, and raisins for breakfast

Spinach, romaine, black-eyed bean, tomato and cucumber salad, and another big pear

and run around for 3 hours at work

Oh I forgot sprouts made from lots of different beans and lentils. I think I must be getting near anorak's mystical 26 today
