For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information if you follow the link at the very bottom of the page

Ah but last week I bought cherries and did not share.

They are my secret stash, and I'm thinking of going to get some more today!

Mrscarrot · 12/06/2007 09:20

4 and a half raisins, franny, really?

DD is having a friend for tea so we are having choc dipped fruit. She chose it out of green and blacks cook book and I hope they couont covered in choc! There will be grapes, strawbs, nectarine, banana and kiwi.

Feeling dreadful this morning after LO SCREAMED half the night, and it's completely out of character for him, can honestly say he's never cried in the night. Off to docs at 11. Could be teeth I suppose, no sign though.

Might have asparagus for lunch.

thequeenofcontradiction · 12/06/2007 09:22

Sorry have not been around much - I have a terrible sore throat and can't really eat much of anything, so am failing miserably on the fruit and veg front.

Hope to be back on track soon though.

Mrscarrot · 12/06/2007 09:31

I always recommend a little gargle of salt, sprig of sage and a splash of cider vinegar. Kills germs in the throat

FrannyandZooey · 12/06/2007 11:46

Oh queenofc you poor soul, also try elder berry extract which you can get from health shops. I am convinced it has magical properties against colds.

Hope baby carrot is ok MrsC. Fruit dipped chocolate definitely counts - think of all those alko-thingies (forgets what chocolate has got in it and improvises)

Anorak, cherries are ds's favourite so I would never get away with not sharing

Ooh am so of personal fruit stashes. Where do you hide them?

Avocado and tomato in a sandwich for lunch. Am now eating sprouted bean things - somehow not as nice as I thought, to eat just in a pile by themselves. Gping to get some beetroot instead.

My what a fantastic thread title

I am back, was only away for the week but this laptop is really on borrowed time and hasn't let me on for long enough to post so far since we got back... which is really rather annoying as I want to talk about Salinger (half way through Franny and Zooey and loving it), I need to refind that enthusiasm I had for joining the gym before I went and I am clearly missing out on some Morrissey discussion...

Am really at the mercy of this thing atm though so not sure if I will be around much for a bit

FrannyandZooey · 12/06/2007 14:35

Oh Tatties hoorah! Sorry to hear about laptop - go to an internet cafe and tell me all about F&Z and your holiday

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 12/06/2007 18:49

Have eaten coleslaw (with red cabbage yum), about 2 portions I reckon

Franny, Franny, I have CHICKENS in my garden!!!

Oh, and have eaten some veg today too, muesli, apple, orange juice, lettuce, cucumber, various other things, am back on wagon (should that be barrow?)

Now that Tatties has seen the ninja thread title, does that mean you have to come up with a new one, equally witty and arresting?

chickens are nasty things that peck your toes when you collect the eggs ime

I would very much like a chicken of my own though, and I would train it to be nice.

LO has an ear infection He is five months next week and it's the first time he cried in the night poor thing. I also resorted to the dosing of calpol, sigh, his pure breastfed diet interrupted with a spoon of sugar and artificial everything but earache is horrible.

Not a great day. Very tired. banana, asparagus, stirfry with cabbage, carrots, onions, green beans and mushrooms. Couldn't be bothered to melt separate plain choc from the kids dipped fruits so just ate them plain, straawbs, cherries etc.

and DH is away for 2 days

Greensleeves · 12/06/2007 23:11

my chickens are tucked up in their coop, roosting away, bless them

fresh eggs for breakfast chez Greeny.....

Greensleeves · 12/06/2007 23:12

MrsCarrot, MY chickens eat out of your hand and enjoy being stroked, they would never be so uncouth as to peck anyone

I think you have been associating with the wrong class of fowl. These are not just chickens. These are organically reared pure-breed free-range chickens

FrannyandZooey · 13/06/2007 07:31

Oh MrsC I am sorry. I hope he is better very soon and that you feel less tired. How miserable when dp is away as well.

LOL at Greeny

I hope they were a birthday present because you are not allowed to have presents AND chickens all in the same week

Have eaten peach (had quite bitter row with ds about it he now says he is not my friend ) pear, raisins, apple

haarpsichordcarrier · 13/06/2007 07:46

hello F'n'Z
we are doing OK here although I did get an impaasioned text from dh yesterday saying NO MORE APPLES!!!!!
it doesn't help that he only likes apples and bananas in the way of fruit
I think we could do with some more vegatable ideas too tbh....

anorak · 13/06/2007 08:09

Yesterday bought some immense field mushrooms in the market (while obtaining cherries for secret stash)

They were monsters - about 6" in diameter and 1" thick.

Last night I sprinkled them with my special infused olive oil. cooked the gill side on the barbecue then turned them over. Filled the hollows with chopped onion and garlic, olive oil and seasoning mixture then topped with cubed cheddar. Cooked till cheese melted. Yummy.

Had barbecue with mixed salads and avocadoes mashed on toast.

anorak · 13/06/2007 13:23

Tonight I am going to make a chocolate fondue. Have all kinds of yummy biscuits and fruit to dip. Strawberries, apricots, melon, bananas, peaches...
