Good evening

Our previous thread is here

If you've got cancer, this is the thread for you. Introduce yourself and feel free to ask any questions. We also welcome anyone who is waiting for cancer tests. We know how scary it can be. So don't be shy. We will happily hold your hand and hopefully wave goodbye when you get good news :)

purple it's probably something really boring like they need to reschedule your appointment, but it's really bad timing with the Bank Holiday weekend! And also very annoying about the paint.

Year remember one of the reasons that ovarian cancer is underdiagnosed is because so many of the symptoms overlap with much less scary conditions like IBS. So hopefully it will be so,string harmless Flowers

TQ I'm glad chemo went OK, apart from the drip stand bashing Angry my scan went fine thanks. He got a vein on second attempt, thank goodness. And I got a very fancy recliner with electric controls. I can knit now, yes Grin

penguins that's very quick! I hope it goes well. Is that for tests or just a consultation? I'm good thanks. I will stop being radioactive in about 15 minutes Grin

I hope everyone is able to relax and enjoy the weekend a bit.

purple - no date yet. Only saw the go yesterday.

WWLKD - I thought I did have IBS but doesn't fit. Whatever is wrong already is so no point stressing.

penguinsandpanda · 04/05/2018 22:18

I would have assumed rescheduling Purple though hopefully they aren't doing that either.

I'm not sure Leslie the lady said I was authorised for a consultation and tests but not sure they will do tests tomorrow.

TQ You go for it, get a date with that ex fiance now Grin

Year i've had about 5 cancer tests recently, had all the symptoms, but all clear so don't worry too much about that. I think its fairly common with the gynae cancers to have symptoms.

MissReginaPhilange · 05/05/2018 06:11

@tq I spent last night reading your thread. Your a legend. You Really are. And I love that you are trying to raise awareness. Also made me realise whats going on with me is all pointing to oc. A few months ago I started the gym to put a little weight on and tone up. I was got to lifting 75kilo weights and was full of energy and even had a six pack. Fast forward two months and I am constantly very bloated almost like im pregnant. Back pain. Even pain when walking. Pain after partaking in the no pants dance and also bleeding too. So fatigued all the time in lucky to be awake past 8pm. And also oddly struggle peeing and well you know the other one...as it feels like there is something in the way preventing me from going properly. Hoping to Christ that is all unrelated and I'm just having a few issues but it's not sounding great. I'm 28 with a 5 year old 4 year old and a very poorly 15 month old. Hoping scan comes bacl ok tomorrow. Not gonna lie. I'm petrified

MissReginaPhilange · 05/05/2018 06:13

Sorry for rambling ... didbt know I needed to let all that out till then

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 05/05/2018 07:09

Good luck today penguins. It would be good if they could do tests today to save you waiting for another appointment. There's a urology clinic on at the same time as my oncologist's clinic and all the loos have big posters telling people to check with the staff before they wee in case they need to have any tests Grin

Regina you're young for ovarian cancer, or any cancer really. Not that it doesn't happen, but it's a lot less likely than if you were older. Hopefully they will find another cause for your symptoms Flowers I'm sorry your baby is poorly too. You are having a tough time of it at the moment! Ramble away. That's what the thread is for.

Year indeed. I didn't mean IBS specifically but there are lots of non-cancery possibilities so fingers crossed it's one of them. I hope you get an appointment for your scan soon :)

I hope everyone gets to enjoy the sunshine this weekend.

@whatwould thanks. They say it comes in 3s so just waiting for my roof to fall off or something and my bad luck run will be complete haha. Poor youngest has multiple health issues and two days ago I had epipen training and got told her allergic to dairy soya gluten eggs nuts....and potentially more. So currently scratching my head wondering what the poor bugger can actually eat. I already have ibs and the symptoms I have dont fit to its normal pattern else id have blamed that. Hoping and praying its some weird backlash from my tubal litigation and thermal ablation i had a year ago.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 05/05/2018 07:23

I think you're meant to break a match in half and that's your third thing. (My mum is superstitious!) Goodness, that must be very scary. And tricky to think of meals too. Have you posted in the Allergies section? I am sure there are other posters with similar restrictions who might be able to give you some ideas :)

OP posts:
MissReginaPhilange · 05/05/2018 07:28

Oh fab advice may have a mooch over there. And hunt for a match while I do. Hope your doing well. Well as well as can be. Just flitted back to the first page and saw what your dealing with. You ladies all seem so upbeat its very inspirational

Taytotots · 05/05/2018 07:59

missrp at least you should have an idea either way tomorrow and hopefully get a plan for feeling better. Sounds like you've deteriorated really rapidly. They don't think it's anything to do with the litigation and ablation (adhesions etc?). Must be a really tough time, especially with your youngest's issues to deal with as well. WineBrewCakeFlowers - sounds like you need them!

Penguins great you got an appointment so quickly. Best of luck for tomorrow.

Leslie congratulations on your non-radioactive status and great you can knit again - doing anything interesting. I still have wool I am meant to be knitting my kid's hats with - bit late for this winter!

Purple hope your booking appointment call wasn't anything serious. Nearly always when I have had a call like that it's been something really boring like rescheduling. Although the 8pm is weird.

I started round 2 chemo yesterday after they eventually managed to get the drugs to the hospital by taxi (rural cottage hospital so they come from main one). Symptoms manageable. Tums (as advised by consultant) helping with muscle tremors and also taste pleasingly like refreshers. Insomania from steroids but sure that's what Mumsnet is for Grin. Weekend to recover then back to work on Monday for a pretty full on two weeks (course then conference). Will be great mentally but a bit worried about coping with it all physically - still can always go off on sick if necessary (very jealous of your sick leave penguins - we only get a poxy 10 days).

MissReginaPhilange · 05/05/2018 08:22

Wow not a great deal of sick leave you can take then. And sounds like a packed week ahead. Will keep my fingers crossed you manage it. Also never knew tums tasted like refreshers...my sweet tooths like the sound of that !

Symptoms started about 6 months ago with just pain after nookie and bleeding which us highly unusual as haven't bled since the novasure. The rest of the symptoms have come on very quickly over maybe just less than two months. Don't know if oc gives you a lot of pain but im on tramadol buscopan coedine and anti inflammatories everyday just to get through so whatever is going on is not pleasant.
Keep meaning to tag everyone and answer individually but in my drug induced haze I keep forgetting names to tag and what I was saying. So a huge fingers crossed to those awaiting further tests and results and big love to everyone going through treatment .

McZeba · 05/05/2018 08:24

Morning, My BCN eventually got back to me, I have Chemo on Tuesday so She is going to request an appointment with my Oncologist for the same day. I will be around n about the hospital all day as I also have the 'Look Good, Feel Better' thing. Anyone else been on this? Can they tell me how to disguise the 2 stone Ive gained since diagnosis!!!

Hope everyone manages to enjoy this rare warm bank holiday weekend x

MissReginaPhilange · 05/05/2018 08:26

Also...by trade (or at least one of my many trades) i actuallu design and make clothing. So if any of you beautiful ladies goinf through treatment lose your hair and would like me to make you some funky headscarf or hat's etc I would be happy to oblige. Just send me your address and I'll get some whipped up xx

iVampire · 05/05/2018 08:32

I hope you are all having as lovely sunny weather as I have here!

I’ve just posted on the Parkrun thread about med info on their wristbands, and suggesting wording (no more than 27 characters allowe)

Taytotots · 05/05/2018 08:37

missrc that sounds horrible. Hope they get to the bottom of it soon. I can take more sick leave but on employment insurance so just a low gov stipend. Work are being very good about time off but I'm keen to get back. Don't feel too bad and now first month of chemo done know a bit more what to expect. Feel a bit of a fraud doing circuit classes and six mile hikes but being 'too sick' to work!

Let us know what you think of the look good feel better workshop mczeba. I've just found out they do they here but not sure if I should go - I know some of it is hair loss/wig focused and with my chemo I don't lose my hair. Good luck with the chemo too!

iVampire · 05/05/2018 08:39

Cut off too soon !

‘Cancer: info in phone case’

I was wondering, from a diseased pov, if I’d rather say ‘CML - info in phone case’ because that should lead paramedics to check, and some might even know what it is. And as it’s less obvious verbiage I could wear it all the time. Am I making sense here?

purpleunicorns · 05/05/2018 08:45

I hoping the phone call was to just rearrange my appointment and nothing more serious.

Tayto if they give you steroids to take at home take them as early in the day as you can. The doctor prescribed me zopiclone sleeping tablets, might be worth mentioning if you're still struggling to sleep.

McZeba I went on the Look Good Feel Better workshop not too long ago and it's fab. You get loads of posh makeup and perfume to take home

Ooh Regina I may take you up on the offer of a scarf depending on how my results come back. I'd love to be able to make my own clothes. Don't worry about tagging and keeping up with us all, I'm seriously thinking about doing a spreadsheet so I know who's who to save me trawling back through the posts Grin

MissReginaPhilange · 05/05/2018 08:51

@purple fingers crossed for you and just let me know if you want one :) it's a handy talent when I look in my wardrobe and realise I have nothing to wear I must admit. And my dog likes his bandanas Grin
Ooh I may write I down thats a good idea. I swear I don't deal with opiate painkillers well. I'm one tramadol away from breaking out the glow sticks and having a disco im that high Smile

TwitterQueen1 · 05/05/2018 09:06

Hi Regina tx but I'm no legend Wink just an ordinary mum of 58. You're very young for OC - I have everything crossed it's not cancer of any sort.

Steroids have had me awake by 4am the last 2 mornings but today I managed to drop off again around 6.30. I am redder of face this time around (my chemo drug is a delightful neon pinky/orange that colours my skin & urine) and people keep telling me how well I look with a bit of sun... ha ha.

Tayto - definitely go to Look Good session - loads of lovely goodies!

iVamp - I would stick with 'cancer' - not sure CML is enough of an alert.

Taytotots · 05/05/2018 09:54

Oh can't beat a freebie. I will try to sign up for on of the look good feel better sessions then Grin.

Purple I just get steroid before IV so last time it was just first night I couldn't sleep. Hoping same this time. On the plus side I have sorted out all my kids clothes for summer.

iVampire I can't track down your parkrun thread (i miss parkrun - we don't have it here) but would think 'cancer patient' might be enough.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 05/05/2018 10:26

I think I'd go with cancer as well iVampire. People might not know what CML is and just ignore it, whereas everyone knows cancer.

TQ I did a quick doubletake at "mum of 58" Grin people keep telling me how well I look too. I have rosacea so my cheeks are almost always rosy however ill I am! I'm never sure how I feel about it. On the one hand I think "well, I can't be that ill if I still look OK", but on the other it's a bit annoying when you feel like shit.

Definitely go to LGFB Tayto. It's great. I went when I had chemo first time round and I didn't lose my hair. I don't know if it's changed since then, but they did a separate scarf workshop for hair loss. The main one was just make up, and so there was some advice on eyebrow/eyelash loss. But most of it was applicable to everyone.

McZeba I hope you enjoy the LGFB workshop and that your oncologist can reassure you :)

Tayto I'm knitting a baby blanket for a baby who is already overdue, so I need to hurry up with that! Also crocheting together a Woolly Hug Chernobyl blanket. Good luck with your hats. At least you'll be ready for next winter :)

Waving to everyone else. Have a good day!

Delurking to say I am so sorry to read about Nicky and my heart goes out to her familyFlowers. Welcome to all newbies although sorry you have found your way here, love a shiny new thread Grinx

MissReginaPhilange · 05/05/2018 11:50

Total and complete lack of motivation today. Think I'm nervy about tomorrow Confused need to pull my finger out. Anyone fancy doubling up as a motivational speaker Grin

Taytotots · 05/05/2018 12:27

Good luck with the blankets Leslie. The wooly hugs campaign is a lovely idea. When I get a bit faster and better I'll have to look into it. not sure anyone would want my knitting at the moment!

MissReginaPhilange · 05/05/2018 12:38

Ooh what's wooly hugs? I can knit Grin
