dd has been overtired (we've been overdoing it a bit). On Thursday she came back from nursery with the beginnings of a sticky eye which i've bathed and now have drops from boots that i'm doing every 2 hours.

Last night I took her temp, not sure why as she wasn't hot but it was almost 39, so did the usual.

This morning, she is bouncing off the walls and had a humdinger of a tantrum, I ended up in tears too as terrified she would seriously hurt herself

Now her temp has come down but her lips and fingers are blue..this happens alot but she's still racing around like a mad thing.

I read the instruction for the antibiotic drops and it doesn't say anything about not taking with other AB's (she's on long term ab's for kidney reflux)

Should I just phone nhs direct, it seems a bit mad considering her energy levels.

am having a nervous breakdown here cos I get so worried sometimes

PMSL! at your last posts DG. Hope you're back home soon.

Merlin · 09/05/2007 17:06

Just to let you all know, DG just texted me from hospital. Waiting for a bed for DD and to be seen by paed. DG thinks probably IV antibs needed. . Will update more as I hear from her. Thanks for all being so concerned.

LilRedWG · 09/05/2007 17:09

Thanks for the update Merlin.

Merlin · 09/05/2007 17:10

I'd like to be with her for support but have tonsillitis so not a good idea!!!

SillyMillysMummy · 09/05/2007 17:11

finally, well at least its gonna get sorted now love and hugs from my Amelia

Merlin · 09/05/2007 17:13

Thanks silly - will pass the hugs on - sure they will be appreciated.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 09/05/2007 17:17

Thanks for the update Merlin. Thinking of her poor dd - mine has just been for a blood test and I remember what it that was like when she was little. Fingers crossed she can get away without having IV's.

Merlin · 09/05/2007 19:44

Good news! They are on their way home! Hospital think infection is viral so ABs not needed.

Sure Dg will be along later to fill us all in!!

SillyMillysMummy · 09/05/2007 21:49

FANTASTIC - good on you DG for pushing it though

DelGirl · 09/05/2007 22:35

hi all . Well dd still had a temp when we got home but it's down again now. There were white cells & lyposytes? and protein in her urine at lunchtime but the afternoon one showed just white cells I think??? No bugs in there so the paed says she doesn't think its a uti. They will look at it over the next couple of days but she thinks it's viral. I can't believe it's lasted so long, it feels like she's been poorly for weeks, i'm exhausted. We have open access until Friday morning. I think if she was going to get really poorly again, that it would show before then so that helps. Off to bed now as i'm shattered and hope hope hope that her temp stays down. SHe has drunk a little more, not much, and not eaten much either but the performance she put on on the ward, i'm not falling for her poor dd act anymore . She was very good btw, just very energetic and flirting with all the boys naked . The paed called it a calpol high!

Glad to hear the DD is on the mend.

DelGirl · 10/05/2007 10:49

thanks, she seems better today and her temp is normal at the mo. Last meds given about 2am if I remember right so hopefully we have turned a corner this time. There was a point in the night when her temp dropped to 35.3 or something which is a bit too far the other way but I can't worry about that

SillyMillysMummy · 10/05/2007 11:37

dg, glad she is feeling better today, dont worry about the temp drop, my A drops to that when she is settled too.

DelGirl · 10/05/2007 12:46

oh good, bug sigh of relief. Merlin has just popped around with some lovely flowers, thank you and dd was playing with her ds quite happily. Oh I do hope she's over this bout and we can really look froward to a week in the sun!

DelGirl · 10/05/2007 12:46

bug sigh, I really must start to preview!

DelGirl · 10/05/2007 15:19

well she's not had any meds since about 2am and her temp is still normal. hoorah, I think she may be over it what a relief. thanks for your support, it has helped

OP posts:
DelGirl · 11/05/2007 13:57

well her temp has stayed down I think but guess what...............

I've just had a call from the paed at the hospital and she has got a uti! ffs. The surgery are writing out a script and she has to be on AB's for 7 days then do a clear catch sample but, we're go away on holiday next thursday! bloody hell.

Why oh why did the gp not send it off last Saturday , in fact the out of hours is at the local hospital!

Anyway, I think she can go straight back on the trimethoprim after the 7 days and test when we get back & hope that its cleared it. I assume she would still be ill if it wasn't clearing up. I'm told that there is a medical centre very near to where we are staying so thats comforting and presumably if she was to have any probs with these ab's, we'll know before next Thursday. Thats 4 doctors and none of them really treated her correctly!

got that off my chest.

Sillymillysmummy - any opinions on what i've written?

DelGirl · 11/05/2007 14:04

bump for smm

OP posts:
SillyMillysMummy · 11/05/2007 14:09

heres my opinion

fckin wkers, exactly the same has happened to me, except it was 6 weeks before i got a phone call, and in that time (i'm presuming it was then) dd managed to sustained irepairable kidney damage!!

it depends how used to looking at the urine your hospital is i think, when they send it for labs, it takes a couple of days but they try and grow stuff off the sample, if it grows then there is bacteria present

has your dd had the 3 tests yet?

SillyMillysMummy · 11/05/2007 14:12

eeh honestly, it makes me soooooo angry, i can smell a uti a mile off, i just knew when you originally posted thats what it was

poor you and poor your dd

DelGirl · 11/05/2007 14:17

I know. tbh her urine smelt sweet a bit sickly but not offensive. What 3 tests do you mean? She had ultrasound, dye test & scan is that what you mean? There is problem with one of the valves, it doesn't shut properly or something like that.

SillyMillysMummy · 11/05/2007 14:18

anyways, my dd was hospitalised only a couple of weeks before we had to fly to the dominican republic, so i can understand your concern with going anywhere, however, remember, you are her mum and know her better than anyone, trust your instinct, if you think she is unwell, take her to hospital/doctor etc

dont let this spoil your holiday, remember, she is going to have this for a while so there is no point in worrying, its a sad thing but the more times she is unwell, the better you learn to cope with it

make sure she is drinking plenty, especially if its hot (i used to leave a bottle of juice in dd's cot incase she wanted some in the night) I would keep her dosed up with calpol and brufen (if it usually takes both to keep temp down) for at least 3 days, it will not do her any harm and will keep her comfortable, and you less stressed

If she is starting her ab's today, ask them if you can take a sample in before you go just to put your mind at rest

DelGirl · 11/05/2007 14:19

i'm a bit surprised that they didn't realise on wednesday but anyway, I know now.

have got to go out now but will post later. Your experiences are very helpful though i'm sorry you and your dd have had to go through it
