dd has been overtired (we've been overdoing it a bit). On Thursday she came back from nursery with the beginnings of a sticky eye which i've bathed and now have drops from boots that i'm doing every 2 hours.

Last night I took her temp, not sure why as she wasn't hot but it was almost 39, so did the usual.

This morning, she is bouncing off the walls and had a humdinger of a tantrum, I ended up in tears too as terrified she would seriously hurt herself

Now her temp has come down but her lips and fingers are blue..this happens alot but she's still racing around like a mad thing.

I read the instruction for the antibiotic drops and it doesn't say anything about not taking with other AB's (she's on long term ab's for kidney reflux)

Should I just phone nhs direct, it seems a bit mad considering her energy levels.

am having a nervous breakdown here cos I get so worried sometimes

another Amelia, how did you know my dd was Amelia?? isnt that funny

hope she is well soon

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 05/05/2007 16:05

Delgirl - hope everything turns out OK. Blue fingers and lips can sometimes be just as a result of them having an infection. The 'shut down' peripherally as the blood gets directed to the organs that need it. Some children get a more mottled look. Does her tongue stay pink?

DelGirl · 05/05/2007 18:44

what a day. It turns out it is a uti, so i'm thankful for that I guess. I haven't seen her that poorly since her 1st & last 1 when she was about 10 months old. Been given amoxycillin & some cream for her eye which is blepharitis so i'm told and I can put that on when she's asleep thank goodness as it just needs to go on the lid. We spent nearly 2 hours at the out of hours but she produced a sample on queue just before the gp called us so that was handy. Still got extremely blue lips though and high temp.

thats me who can breathe again btw . Yes her tongue is sort of pink, she has quite dark lips anyway but they went almost purple tonight. He said they can go blue around the mouth as well and thats ok its just if the tongue and whole face go blue. Won't stop me panicking though I don't think as it's horrible. I tried taking a picture but it doesn't show up as blue. Anyway, off for a sit down and a big fat slice of birthday cake!

Merlin · 05/05/2007 18:53

Birthday Cake??!!! Is that allowed on SW? .

Although I think you are more than justified after today .......... large glass or two of wine later?

DelGirl · 05/05/2007 18:57

to blimmin right though I'm only hurting myself. Had a becks next door, really needed it. And in Sainsburies picked up chocolate, pizza & potato wedges . btw, they only charged me £3 for the shoes, I think they were 4 but they didn't have a tag on so he charged less. Must've looked at my shopping and thought, ooh someones had a bad day

OP posts:
DelGirl · 05/05/2007 18:59

hows ds1 btw, sorry forgot to ask

OP posts:
DelGirl · 05/05/2007 21:24

well dd's temp has stayed up at one point it was 40.2, now 39.7 She had calpol & nurofen 3 hours ago and it hasn't made any difference. She's been stripped off, has a fan on nearby and has just managed some icecream. oh I can forsee a trip to a&e

OP posts:
Merlin · 05/05/2007 21:34

Oh DG sorry to see this, was hoping she would be perking up. You're doing all the right things, when can you give her some more drugs?

How's the blueness?

DelGirl · 05/05/2007 21:39

so was I, I think I can just about give her some more calpol, that'll be her 5th lot today though she's only had 5ml each time and I think you can give 10. The she can have nurofen at about 10.30 and that will be her 4th lot so she won't be able to have anymore until the morning. better check the labels I think. She can have her next lot of ab's at about 12.30 too.yawn!

daftasabrush · 05/05/2007 21:41

Hope things are ok Delgirl. It's horrible when they are ill and seems even worse at night. I think you are doing a grand job. I am a real worry guts as well as are all us mums. Hope you got to eat your pizza. As usual go with your gut instinct which will be the right thing to do.

Merlin · 05/05/2007 21:45

Well, not too long to wait until you can give more drugs - as long as you can stay awake!!! Is she any cooler yet?

DelGirl · 05/05/2007 21:46

glad I checked. She can't actually have any more burofen at all until 6.30 am. calpol you can give 10ml 4 times a day so I would think it would be ok to give 5ml 8 times a day?

OP posts:
Merlin · 05/05/2007 21:47

Yes that would be fine with the Calpol. Hope it helps.

DelGirl · 05/05/2007 21:48

hi molesworth, doubly with the clan off to montasola

I;ve only managed chocolate so far and feel sick so the pizza will have to wait. cna't even have a drink in case I need to drive. Need to keep my wits about me just in case she has a convulsion. it always seems like 2 steps forward and 1 back grrr.

OP posts:
DelGirl · 05/05/2007 21:53

no, it's 39.4! think I will have to ring nhs direct I did manage to make dd laugh earlier so thats something, I just wish she'd drink more

OP posts:
Merlin · 05/05/2007 21:55

Ring NHS Direct for advice. Got any straws she could drink through?

DelGirl · 05/05/2007 21:56

yes but she doesn't seem to want anything, I had to virtually force feed her ice cream. Offered her some very healthy mily buttons and she turned her nose up. Mind you it is nearly 10pm, some girls do at least have some self control

OP posts:
Merlin · 05/05/2007 21:57

lol! - What about an ice lolly?

Merlin · 05/05/2007 21:57

I have some - homemade too

DelGirl · 05/05/2007 22:37

very nice i'm sure but thats no good to me, I don't have any

I've given her her ab's & calpol and her temp is now down to 38.6, still high but improving. I think i'm going to try and get some sleep. I don't know whether to set my alarm or not but really I can't do anything else for at least 4 hours and if she starts to feel really bad, no doubt she'll let me know.
