dd has been overtired (we've been overdoing it a bit). On Thursday she came back from nursery with the beginnings of a sticky eye which i've bathed and now have drops from boots that i'm doing every 2 hours.

Last night I took her temp, not sure why as she wasn't hot but it was almost 39, so did the usual.

This morning, she is bouncing off the walls and had a humdinger of a tantrum, I ended up in tears too as terrified she would seriously hurt herself

Now her temp has come down but her lips and fingers are blue..this happens alot but she's still racing around like a mad thing.

I read the instruction for the antibiotic drops and it doesn't say anything about not taking with other AB's (she's on long term ab's for kidney reflux)

Should I just phone nhs direct, it seems a bit mad considering her energy levels.

am having a nervous breakdown here cos I get so worried sometimes

arrgh delgirl, its like dejavous for me. Everything you are describing is what happens to dd (unfortunately she has had quite a few infections though) keep up the good work, sounds like the infection has got quite a hold this time, i tend to give my dd calpol every 4 hours and ibuprofen every 6 hours for at least 2 days religiously when she has been diagnosed with the infection, apparently there is no problem with this and it helps keep her comfortable (and therefore me happy. The correct dose goes on their weight though and the hospital usually tell me how much is right. Ask your hospital about open access, apparently it is given automatically here when repeat uti's are found, it means that if i suspect a uti, or she gets really ill (as they do) i can take her straight into the childrens ward, its a real load off my mind. Just as a closing point, it may be that your dd needs to change her prophalactic ab's, if she has been on them for a while Hope she is better this morning.

Hi smm . It is kind of reassuring to know that 'it's normal' for others iykwim though I agree, it's awful. Well she slept until just after 7 and woke up with a temp of just over 38. I'd turned the fan off but she was still stripped off. So, have started the nurofen/calpol routine and like you say, stick to it religiously. What I don't want is for her temp to spike and for her to have a convulsion. That happened once a couple of hours after we were discharged from hospital having been there for 2 nights! She seems alot happier this morning which is lovely to see but she's not drinking much. I've relented and given her a 'special' drink of squash but she's still not interested. I may just have to ply her with fruit and ice lollies today and yoghurt.

I've had the open access to the hospital too but only when we've had a stay in there. It's not all the time, well not here anyway. I'm not sure when she's due for her next paed visit but she has to have her wee checked again after the amoxycillin so perhaps the gp will suggest something about the prophylaxis ab's

Morning DG, glad to hear she is a bit happier today and hopefully the temp is starting to go down albeit slowly. We are probably going out for the day, but is there anything you need? - could drop off to you on way. - no problem. Let me know.

Take care.

DelGirl · 06/05/2007 09:31

well actually, I may take you up on that so I don't have to take her out, if you're sure, are you headed this way?

I was typing a little list for you but have now deleted it. I think I may take her out later for a short walk for some ice lollies & juice, the fresh air might do her some good? And she loves her pushchair

thanks though, but if you are headed over this way for your shoes and I haven't already gone, the above would be good.

DG - sorry to hear little A isn't feeling so good. How is she doing now? Anything I can help with just shout. xxx

DelGirl · 07/05/2007 08:26

Hi Sparkler

Well her temp was 39.4 this morning but now down to 38.4 but she seems very chirpy and wanting to play. I don't think she'll be going to nursery tomorrow though.

We went out for some lunch yesterday, only to CP so only a 10 minute walk/pushchair and she was ok until on the way home, she looked tired and I felt very guilty So we're staying put today. Good job looking outside.

Enjoying this weather are you

OP posts:
Sparkler1 · 07/05/2007 12:09

Don't feel guilty for taking her out. Freshair is great for her anyway and also, above all, your sanity. It's important for you to get out of the house as well otherwise it's going to taking it's toll on you.
Typical bank holiday weather eh?
We had a day out yesterday so staying in today to have a bit of a clean and tidy (boring but necessary).
My two dds have a teacher training day tomorrow so have an extra day to do something else - might even take them swimming if they are good!

DelGirl · 07/05/2007 16:03

She now has a tummy upset, wahhhhh, poor thing. So, definitely no nursery tomorrow. It could be worse, it could be next week and we're off on our hols. Hopefully she'll be well and truly over it all by then

Also, as she's been so quiet and she's sat on the sofa watching a dvd, i've been able to sort out stuff for a sale this Saturday (which i'm not going to btw as we'll be doing the Mile for Maude)

How are you getting on?

OP posts:
Sparkler1 · 07/05/2007 16:51

I'm getting on with stuff slowly - doing a bit then sitting on MN and having a coffee then doing a bit more. Quite nice to do things at a slow pace for a change.
Hope she's better soon. x

DelGirl · 08/05/2007 20:43

still not much improvement tonight. I've been on the phone to nhs direct this afternoon as dd hadn't drunk all day but then she took some sips as I was on the phone! Am now taking her to out of hours at 9.30 as her temp is nearly 39 again despite all the meds she's having She won't take anything, water, milk, juice or ice lollies or fruit. Can see her being put on a drip at this rate.

I hope her kidneys will be alright

SillyMillysMummy · 08/05/2007 21:22

oh delgirl, good luck, hugs to Amelia

DelGirl · 08/05/2007 22:49

well that was a waste of time grrr, i'm really fed up now.

Went and saw the gp. He didn't take dd's temperature and told me he wouldn't have put dd on amoxy 'why was she put on amoxy' err, because of uti? 'Well, we don't use it anymore because it's resistant, not that i'm saying the last gp was wrong', Tols me to stop the amoxy and get a sample from her.eaiser said than done, she's not drinking! So, he gave her some diarolyte, well thats handy, she'll drink that no doubt. Err, no. ffs. NHS direct of her temp stayed up it's important to see someone as her kidneys could get damaged and this gp wants me to get a sample, have it sent off, then decide. It'll be the weekend before we get any results, if i'm lucky to get a sample that is. What can I do now, I can't go back but i'm not happy.

OP posts:
DelGirl · 08/05/2007 22:51

I suppose I just have to see a gp in the morning if I can get an appointment but worried she's going to get dehydrated

OP posts:
Merlin · 08/05/2007 22:57

DG - sorry to hear this. That GP was talking out of his arse. Can't believe he didn't even bother to check her temp. Has she settled for the night now? If so, ring your doc first thing, insist on an appointment asap and do not leave the surgery until they do something. She will be needing some fluids - don't know what else to suggest to get some into her. Has she been eating grapes and fruit at all?

DelGirl · 08/05/2007 23:34

She's in bed, not asleep as yet but neighbour just popped in as i'd left a message. She won't drink and is not interested in eating. She had a few grapes at breakfast time thats about it. I think she's had maybe 200/300 ml all day. I'm going to wait until she's in a deep sleep and hope that she may drink something then. She used to drink from a bottle before when she was like this but i DON'T HAVE ANY NOW. oops, wish i'd kept one or two. I will be seeing the gp as soon as. She's gone to sleep I think. How are you?

OP posts:
SillyMillysMummy · 09/05/2007 08:43

oh DG I cant beleive your gp and hospital are so unhelpful take her to a&e, does your childrens ward have a day unit? If so call them for advice, i beleive that they wont admit without the gp's sayso, but maybe then you could recommend that to him? Tell them that she has reflux, do you know how severe it is? My Amelia has bilateral kidney damage now because i messed about with gp's and stuff, beleive me, not a route you want to go down hun. Hope she is better this morning

Oh, I would also write down stuff like what ab meds she was given that didnt work so that if this happens again you are clued up, iykwim

DelGirl · 09/05/2007 09:06

thanks. She has an appointment at 11am. Still not drinking, well a couple of sips and temp still high 38.5. If no joy with the gp, I will take her to a&e where the childrens ward is. DO you think I should take her there now anyway? She's asleep at the mo but not happy when awake and her temp is up. It's awful to see her like that

OP posts:
DelGirl · 09/05/2007 09:07

I'll give the ward a ring actually, thanks

OP posts:
Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 09/05/2007 09:07

Sorry to hear she's still poorly DelGirl. I have to admit that I don't think we've ever had amoxy for UTI. dd had prophylactic trimethoprim and sometimes another extra. Can't remember the name though.

Hope you can get her to to drink something today and get some help from the medics - waiting 'til the weekend before starting her on new anti-b's isn't on really.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 09/05/2007 09:08

Sorry x post. I'd take her.

LilRedWG · 09/05/2007 09:11

Only just seen this thread and wanted to say that I hope someone sorts her out for you soon. Get well soon, miniDell.

DelGirl · 09/05/2007 09:13

thats made me cross now, I know gps are only human but I want to cry. I just hope she's not got any damage from this [sad

I've just rung the ward, she was very nice and said that it was up to me but she said to see the gp and he should refer her to the hospital. If he doesn't and i'm not happy then I should go myself which I will do. I'd better pack an overnight bag. I'm really upset about this, came on today too f&ckf&ck. I hope she's up to going away next Thursday, we could really do with it.

OP posts:
LilRedWG · 09/05/2007 09:15

I'm sure she will be. It is good that the hospital have said to go straight to them if not happy with the GP. Take care!

SillyMillysMummy · 09/05/2007 09:41

good for you delgirl, i would say this has gone on for long enough, definatley go even if your gp wont refer you, let us know how it goes

DelGirl · 09/05/2007 10:26

off now, wish us luck!
