Some of us have been here a while and others have only just joined. If you're lurking, feel free to say hello. We are quite friendly really.

You are welcome to join us, whatever sort of cancer you have, or if you're waiting for tests to find out whether you have cancer or not (we hope not!)

Our previous thread is here. Do check it out if you're new as there's lots of useful information in the first few posts.

Best wishes to everyone who finds themselves here Flowers

[grin]@Haggisfish. Fingers crossed for a fanny freckle Thanks

ImmortalityMyDarlings · 22/02/2018 18:38

You all seem very lovely. I've had a read through the thread and seen your advice about waiting for results etc.

I am keen to be disciplined about this!

I have one question though - I was referred by GP to breast clinic for a lump, am 27, no fam history, no hormonal issues etc. Today they did examination and on basis of that then ultrasound and decided on the basis of what they saw in ultra to do a needle biopsy. I had only geared myself up for ultrasound as that seemed most likely so I was quite surprised and worried to have biopsy too.
So basically...

  • How common is this biopsy procedure for someone of my age and no family history of bc?

I promise no googling and that this will be my only question Smile

Happyland88 · 22/02/2018 18:55

Hi ImmortalityMyDarlings

I don’t have an answer for you unfortunately. I’m sure someone else will come along who does. I just wanted to say I hope you’re doing okay. I’m 29 and have just been referred to the breast clinic so I have similar concerns and know how worrying a time it is. Well done for staying away from Google Flowers

freddiemercury · 22/02/2018 19:22

Hi Immortality, I think they basically do biopsies if they can't definitely rule out cancer...BUT my sister has had loads of them and they've always been benign..and I mean loads.. . Five or six on different occasions...honestky they are so brilliantly on the ball with BC and take no risks. So it's more than likely you will be fine...xx

likeazebra · 22/02/2018 19:27

Leslie stable is fantastic, really pleased for you.

There are a few March appointments I've seen so good luck to each and everyone of you.

ggirl I think of you and hope your results are good.

I saw the thyroid doctor today and he can't say if it's benign or cancer either so he's passing me to the surgeons to have half removed, he said it'll happen fairly quick.

ImmortalityMyDarlings · 22/02/2018 19:31

happy - if you have docs and HCAs like mine you will feel very safe and understood. They know it's scary for sure but it's all quite quick. Hope you're also doing okay! Flowers

freddie - thank you, that's really helpful and what I was looking to know. Really appreciate your message. And your poor sister! Ouch! Flowers

PenguinsandPandas · 22/02/2018 20:35

Leslie Glad to hear you are stable.

Furry Glad it turned out to be nothing.

FBC has come back satisfactory which is good, physio today which the lady says I've been misdiagnosed and it won't help but at least I got them to run different tests last time. Have cystoscopy tomorrow. Quite nervous but needs doing. Hope everyone else is fine.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 22/02/2018 20:51

Good luck tomorrow Penguins

And love to everyone else. Sorry won’t reply individually as I’m on my phone and have a cannula in my elbow so typing is slow!

Back in hospital. When I was in last time they gave me contact details for the palliative community care team who administer drugs etc at home. So I phoned them this morning as pain was worse and I was vomiting a lot. They came to visit, then tried to call me an ambulance! They said as my pain was severe I had to have it checked at hospital. Despite it being the exact same symptoms as I had been referred to them for Confused thankfully persuaded them not to call the ambulance. But now in overnight. Had x rays, bloods etc and all fine.

I hope you all get a good night’s sleep Star

Leslie sorry to hear you're in hospital , hope they manage to control your pain and sickness quickly and you return home soon.

Mysillydog · 22/02/2018 21:07

Leslie I hope the hospital can get your pain and sickness stabilised so you can get home soon.

PenguinsandPandas · 22/02/2018 21:30

Leslie So sorry to hear you are back in hospital. I hope you start to feel better soon.

likeazebra · 22/02/2018 21:31

Hope you are more comfortable and at home soon Leslie.

PenguinsandPandas · 22/02/2018 21:35

ImmortalityMyDarlings I don't know how common breast biopsies are but fibroids have a over 99 percent chance of not being cancerous and when I have had scans showing them I have been given a biopsy each time. Hope you get the all clear soon.

Happyland88 · 22/02/2018 21:36

Hope you’re feeling better soon Leslie x

MarsBarsAreShrinking · 22/02/2018 21:38

Sorry to read you're back in hospital Leslie, I really hope you're released soon and are back home asap Smile

Happyland88 · 22/02/2018 21:41

Can I ask a question, if you guys don’t mind? I’m just wondering, the 3 lumps I have are all in the same quadrant of one breast. If you have numerous lumps, is that generally a good or bad sign?

freddiemercury · 22/02/2018 22:23

Leslie...sorry you're in hospital.. v much hope you can escape soon...
Hapoyland.. .about the lumps... I can't hugely help.. but I know Jennifer Saunders had two and now seems fine. I had two lumps...only one was cancer!! I think the fact they're close together is good tho as if they do need to come out then it will be easier.
I suspect tho you're asking if it's less likely to be cancer and more likely to be cysts or something.. .once again I will mention my sister who last time had about four lumps...all ended up benign, mixture of cysts and fibroadenomas...sorry I can't help more..

TwitterQueen1 · 22/02/2018 22:27

Sorry to hear in hospital Leslie. Hopefully they'll get you sorted and it will only be a short stay. I'm doing very well physically, not so great mentally. Busying myself with sorting out old photos, 'junk' drawers, crocheting squares for woolly hugs and getting stuff in order.

I'm sad to see you newbies in your twenties Sad. Cancer is never good but it just seems so wrong that you (including you Leslie!) are having to face this at such a young age. It's crap at 58!

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 22/02/2018 22:30

Sorry to hear your news Leslie - I hope you're back home soon.

Happyland88 · 22/02/2018 22:31

Thanks freddiemercury I appreciate your help. I’m sorry to be so needy just now. I’ve just come through about 18 months of what I believe was post natal depression. I’ve come out the other side of that and now been hit with this and I just don’t feel I’m coping. Is there a pill I can take that will numb me? I just want to be numb just now. I don’t want to feel anymore. I don’t know how you’ve all managed this. I know we’ve all got no choice but you just seem to keep it together and I’m really not together just now.

freddiemercury · 22/02/2018 22:49

Oh happy...you poor thing. I will admit the beginning and waiting for tests and results is horrendous...and er I DID take pills! I went to my lovely gp and he gave me zopiclone so I could sleep and beta blockers so I wasn't actually throwing up with fear while sitting in the waiting room at results appointments etc!! What I wish I'd known then is that honestly even if it is cancer, it's completely doable. I promise. You will be surprised by what you can cope with.. .and the vast majority of women who have BC live for years and die of something completely different. My granny had a lump for two years in her early 50s...went on to have mastectomy, radiotherapy and died aged 91 of heart disease!! I clung to her story....you take care. You can do this...and ask any questions at all that you need to. Here's my hand to hold....you can grip it tightly!! Xxx

Happyland88 · 22/02/2018 22:54

Thank you freddie you have no idea how much that means. I’m holding it together IRL, if that makes sense. I’m not really feeling able to burden my DH & family with how utterly terrified I am. Knowing I can sort of bare my soul here is such a relief. Thank you for listening. It means everything to me right now.

purpleunicorns · 22/02/2018 23:24

Hope your home soon Leslie Thanks**

Happyland it's worth going and speaking to a doctor about how you're feeling, they will be able to give you something to help you. Like Freddie said zopiclone are good if you're struggling to sleep, I went to the doctors and he put them on repeat prescription for me. And if it is cancer (although it's more than likely not) then you'll get a 5 year exemption card so you won't need to pay for any prescriptions

purpleunicorns · 22/02/2018 23:25

No idea why half of that message was in bold Confused it's past my bedtime, I'll blame tiredness 😁

Haggisfish · 23/02/2018 04:08

Leslie, hope you get out soon. I can’t sleep for fretting-so bloody annoying!! I’m shattered as well. However, downstairs in the house has never looked so clean-silver lining and all that I suppose!
