Some of us have been here a while and others have only just joined. If you're lurking, feel free to say hello. We are quite friendly really.

You are welcome to join us, whatever sort of cancer you have, or if you're waiting for tests to find out whether you have cancer or not (we hope not!)

Our previous thread is here. Do check it out if you're new as there's lots of useful information in the first few posts.

Best wishes to everyone who finds themselves here Flowers

You used the term sphecull EtTuTuttiFrutti? Hmm was there a reason for it? I'm not surprised people reported you

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 02/05/2018 10:05

Hello again EtTuTuttiFrutti. I hope that the rest of your treatment went well.

Have you posted again just to try and cause bad feeling, or are you looking for support? If the former, then please remember that people post here at one of the worst times of their lives and it's really not an appropriate place to try and start an argument.

I never actually said I reported you. I said I was pleased they had changed the wording, which I was. Obviously lots of people found it offensive if they reported it. You might disagree, but many people consider that word disablist.

Anyway, I don't want to derail the thread so I'm not going to say anything else on the matter. If you really want to discuss it further, feel free to PM me.

As I said at the time, you're still more than welcome here if you can put this behind you, otherwise I wish you all the best Flowers

This is a cancer support thread, please leave Leslie alone Tutti, she's lovely and very young with terminal cancer and she doesn't need this.

Hope you are feeling a bit better Leslie

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 02/05/2018 10:34

Much better thanks penguins :) how are you? It's absolutely tipping it down here so I'm glad I don't need to go out!

OP posts:
penguinsandpanda · 02/05/2018 10:48

Glad you are feeling much better. I have been back to working from home this week, still awaiting to see if work will let me or have to be signed off but doctor is backing me on wfh. I am not too bothered either way.

Swaying How are you after the first chemo?

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 02/05/2018 10:52

Good that you're feeling OK enough to work (assuming that you are and not just powering through regardless?) :)

And yes I hope you're feeling alright Swaying Flowers

What the hell did I miss? Confused
penguins post suggests someone had a go at you Leslie? I hope it was nothing too upsetting. Thanks

I have had fantastic news today. The hospital have rung to say there has been a mistake. The liver biopsy has shown that the tumour is benign but mimics cancer. My CT scans have come back clear. I cannot put into words how relieved I am. It's certainly a difference from them telling me that I was non curative 2 weeks ago and painting a very grim picture of treatment options!!
I still need to attend my appointment tomorrow to discuss matters but I am not dreading it as much now.
I hope I don't sound like I'm gloating. I am more than aware what other lovely posters on here are going through Thanks

purpleunicorns · 02/05/2018 17:20

That's absolutely fantastic news wombat! I'm so pleased for you. What a relief it must be, it just goes to show that the doctors don't always get it right. I hope you're planning to celebrate Thanks

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 02/05/2018 17:22

wombat don't worry, all is well :)

And that is such fantastic news! Flowers I have a huge smile on my face. I'm sorry that they've put you through all of this though. They ought to have confirmed it was definitely cancer and incurable before telling you that Hmm you're not gloating. It's always cheering to hear good news on this thread! Good luck at your appointment tomorrow.

Bloody hell Wombat! Seriously? That's fabulous news but I'm in Shock Shock that the hospital / consultant could make such a mistake. There's a helluva difference between benign and non-curative, fast-growing, aggressive, cancerous.

Jeez, If I were you I'd be opening several large bottles of something!!!! Have a lovely evening Flowers

wombat22 · 02/05/2018 17:46

Thank you.
I had a bottle of fizz in the garage and rang DH from work after I got the call, asking him to put it in the fridge. I've opened it but unfortunately it is spectacularly crap.Grin Really cheap and not drinkable. I don't know where I got it from but it's gone down the sink. I'll celebrate at the weekend.

TQ when the lung cancer nurse rang last week, she told me that it was time to consider long term pain relief, despite the fact that I didn't have any pain. They were positive that I had an advanced cancer 'hiding' somewhere in my body so they would not consider removing the liver tumour. I had been told that I would not be able to travel for the holiday I had booked for early July. All this from an ultrasound scan. I asked about all today and she said that I was a no nonsense type of person (which I am) and she was preparing me for the worst.
Blimey, she certainly did that. I didn't expect to see Christmas. I'll be mentioning it all tomorrow.

penguinsandpanda · 02/05/2018 18:01

Wombats That's amazing news so pleased for you. That must be such a relief. That's some mistake though Shock Good job they realised before starting treatment at least.

Got the occupational health report, they do seem very much pushing for me signed off until I can go into office 5 days a week. Got the impression they were thinking of getting someone into cover. Hmm

Twoo · 02/05/2018 19:21

That’s fantastic news Wonbat22 . Hope tomorrow’s appointment goes ok too.

wombat22 · 02/05/2018 19:56

Thanks again all.

penguins Does that not suit you? It won't be a threat to your job will it?

penguinsandpanda · 02/05/2018 21:08

Thanks Wombats It could be potentially be a threat to the job if they can't make me fully better though work are lovely so hopefully can reach an agreement. I am a bit tired of London anyway, DH works in a lovely place an hour's drive from here and am very tempted to move there. Much nicer for the kids but got to work out financing it / logistics plus not panic into it. DD is in y7 so makes sense to move in next year or so (or not at all ) as GCSE prep starts y9. We nearly moved a year ago then DD got a place at super-selective grammar and my contract got extended but DD doesn't like the grammar and I love my job but hate going into London, an hour each way on packed tubes and constant terror alerts. I'm sure we will work something out either way.

penguinsandpanda · 02/05/2018 21:11

Hope your appointment goes well tomorrow Wombats and hope you can now go on holiday in July and for many years to come.

Mrspotter12 · 02/05/2018 21:46

Evening folks, hope everyone is doing ok ThanksThanks

I went for my follow up today and I have ductal carcinoma which will be treated with chemo and surgery.

I think he said something about oestrogen and if my Hep2 comes back as suitable (+ or -, not sure which) I'll also have Trastuzumab (I think that's what he said).

The nurse implied that I would loose my hair and have 6 rounds of chemo and so I am also loosing my summer holidays day - but that's such a small price to pay!

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 02/05/2018 21:54

Hi Mrspotter it's good you've got a plan. If you're Her2 positive you'll have the trastuzumab. Make sure you get a hat to wear at night because it's absolutely freezing without hair! Do you have a date to start chemo? Flowers

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 02/05/2018 21:55

penguins it's rubbish that you feel pressured. I hope you can come to an arrangement you're happy with :)

Swayingsilverbirch · 02/05/2018 22:00

Wombats what wonderful news, cheers from me! Although how dreadful the hospital feel that you were strong enough for bad news that wasn't actually confirmed. A little bit of chemo is a small(ish) price to pay.

I spent 10 hours in the unit on Monday having the first chemo. It was gruelling but probably not as bad as I had imagined and I'm so grateful that treatment has started. I have had no side effects other than total exhaustion today. Luckily family are staying and let me sleep and managed everything else. What next ladies? I'm hoping to just feel better now! My lips are a bit cracked and I still have the existing pain, oh of course my hair will fall out but I've bought a new hat!

I've read The Cancer Whisperer and attended my first ever yoga workshop on Sunday and felt that they both helped me hugely. Thank you for the recommendations. I'm off to the land of nod now, I've been awake at least two hours!

Swayingsilverbirch · 02/05/2018 22:02

Apologies for the numerous !, I'm drugged up.....

Mrspotter12 · 02/05/2018 22:05

No start date until the fish (?) test comes back. Should be next Wednesday. Have ordered a fun wig for £11 including postage!!! Might get my auntie to knit me a bed hat!
10 hours???? Does chemo normally take that long?

This is it!

Crack open the wine... it's CANCER SUPPORT THREAD 61!
FlippyNeck · 02/05/2018 22:08

Delurking for a bit :) to respond to MrsPotter. Hello! There's good info on Breast Cancer Care and Macmillan websites about the different types of breast cancer. They're classified as HER2 positive or negative (if positive then you'll be treated with trastuzumab, aka Herceptin), ER pos or neg (oestrogen) and PR pos or neg (progesterone). It can be any combinbation of these. If ER+ you'll also have hormone treatment and probably tamoxifen or aromatase inhibitor. If you have ductal carcinoma in situ it means that the cancer hasn't spread beyond the milk ducts, which is really good news (I know that it won't sound that way because it's still dreadful); infiltrating carcinoma means that it's spread beyond the ducts and they'll be checking your lymph nodes too. I hope this helps - there's lots of breast cancer patients here, so ask away and I'm sure someone will be able to answer.

You can ask your nurse about cold capping if you want to try it - I did and kept my hair, although it doesn't work for everyone.

Wowzers Wombat, good news but what a shitty couple of weeks and dreadful care really.

Hope everyone else is doing as well as possible.
