Some of us have been here a while and others have only just joined. If you're lurking, feel free to say hello. We are quite friendly really.

You are welcome to join us, whatever sort of cancer you have, or if you're waiting for tests to find out whether you have cancer or not (we hope not!)

Our previous thread is here. Do check it out if you're new as there's lots of useful information in the first few posts.

Best wishes to everyone who finds themselves here Flowers

Hi Mrs P. I have just been through exactly the same and my children are 10 and 12. They reacted very similarly to Penguins. They knew I had been in pain and having tests. One afternoon I calmly told them I had the results and the eldest guessed what I would say. They both ran in opposite directions screaming crying. I admit it was the worst moment of my life. However once they calmed down and I had them together we discussed what would happen. Their main worry was that I would die. Once reassured about this the eldest was and still is very worried about my appearance and what his friends will think.
Over the last few weeks they have been great and a huge support. You have to keep the show on the road when you have kids. My youngest wants to know every single detail and has many great suggestions for my surgeon!

I hope this helps you a little, I won't pretend it is easy. I only told them when I was 100%certain thAt it was cancer but before I had my treatment plan. I'm still waiting for that 6 weeks later. Fingers crossed I will get it tomorrow.

penguinsandpanda · 24/04/2018 23:17

Hope you get your plan tomorrow Swaying

My youngest is also full advice including that I should ditch my doctors and just see his best friends Dad who is a doctor and he will solve everything. I don't want to be discussing gynae etc issues with a friends Dad though Grin

He also now has a different medical condition himself almost everyday often knee, leg, hand dislocations (but not the "larger my hand fell off dislocation") but we've also had appenditis, about to collapse and he's gone blind in one eye in the last month alone - one mention of seeing a doctor and he manages to self heal them all, you just need to press the neck to stop collapse and you can hit dislocations back into place as long as its not the hand coming off one.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 25/04/2018 07:04

Good morning everyone

Swaying good luck today Flowers

Mrspotter I hope you got some sleep and that the chocolate was therapeutic.

penguins I'm glad the colonoscopy went OK and no sign of anything sinister. Apart from the Lyme disease test is that all your outstanding tests now? Has anyone given any indication of what the next step is?! They seem rather blasé about all the bleeding Confused I hope you get some answers, and more importantly a solution, soon.

Mrspotter12 · 25/04/2018 08:48

Pretty rubbish nights sleep tbh. But my bff is coming this morning for a good old chat so that's good!

Anyone on here dealt with type 1 diabetes as well as this (can't quite bring myself to even type it yet Confused)?

purpleunicorns · 25/04/2018 09:04

That's great news penguins, it must be such a relief

Good luck for today swaying

mrspotter if you keep struggling to sleep properly ask your doctor for zopiclone, someone on here recommend them and they do help

penguinsandpanda · 25/04/2018 09:28

Thanks Leslie I think they will carry on with quite a few tests certainly in urology, bowel should sign off, gynae I assumed would sign off but last time he was reeling off a list so I may not get signed off as quickly as I anticipated but I presume the cancer checks are clear so its more general issues. I don't know what they will do about bleeding / clots from bladder - they are testing urine - online it says if there's no infection you should be sent on 2ww for bladder checks. But no mention of that so far except 111. They did do a cystoscopy in Feb which was clear of tumours so its hopefully innocent but would prefer a more thorough check. Ultrasounds only showed enlarged bladder one, kidney was clear but doesn't pick up small things. I will chase them when I am feeling better, I feel the meds are still working today now I've eaten so quite sick today, just taken day off and today DH to leave so I have priority on bathroom - lol.

Thanks Purple Hope you are OK.

Mrspotter12 · 25/04/2018 09:36

Thanks purple. Have made an appt with endo about my blood sugars so will make an appt with gp, I can always cancel if sleep returns to normal!
Chocolate was lovely but I'm certainly going on a bit of a gentle health kick though, treating the diagnoses as s bit of a wake up call about my health! Silver lining and all that Smile

penguinsandpanda · 25/04/2018 09:45

Glad you have a friend coming MrsP

I am wondering if there's an antedote to MoviPrep - online people said it lasted for 5 days. I hope not, scared to eat now.

Duckland · 25/04/2018 10:19

Two weeks since my CA125 and smear test and no results yet. Does anyone know roughly how long I can expect to wait?

Sending lots of warm wishes to you @Mrspotter and good luck today @Swaying

penguinsandpanda · 25/04/2018 10:34

Phone your doctors surgery, it varies by area. In some areas smears are taking forever to come back. In my area it was about 3 weeks, blood tests between 1 day and 1 week but I've seen much longer waits for smears on MN threads. When I had my CA125 it was 1 working day so chase for that.

Duckland · 25/04/2018 11:33

I've just called the consultant's secretary and she said she'll try and get him to write me a letter because they can't give results over the phone. I know they say that to everyone but it doesn't fill me with confidence. She said hopefully I'll hear in the next week.

penguinsandpanda · 25/04/2018 12:06

I got mine over the phone but we have a results phone line seperate from the normal one. The doctor does have to approve it first even if normal though so sometimes they tell me they can't say.

Just heard back from doctors - urine free from infection and just tell them again if I get more bleeding / clots from bladder. Not too happy about that but am due to see urology in June. May get that switched to private.

Mrspotter12 · 25/04/2018 12:49

Bff brought cake and flowers - she's not daft!

Just told mum and she gave me my dads chocolate eclair! Silver linings and all that!

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 25/04/2018 12:56

Mrspotter she sounds like just the friend you need! Cake I hope your dad isn't too miffed about his eclair... Grin

penguins what a palaver Flowers do you have insurance or would you have to pay? Private does seem like a good option if that would speed things up. You've been waiting ages. I hope your digestive system returns to normal soon too. It took mine a few days. I guess it's understandable really as it's completely empty and all the drugs/poking around etc.

Duckland sorry you're still waiting. I hope they get a letter out to you quickly. Is that the blood results or smear test or both?

I've just woken up from an unplanned nap :)

OP posts:
penguinsandpanda · 25/04/2018 13:09

Something vegetarian. I got coronation chicken and fizzy lemonade. 😂 He's really deaf, its lovely of him to get me things though but lemonade is so not what I need. Hope you had a nice nap.

penguinsandpanda · 25/04/2018 13:15

Sorry message cut in two there. Yes asked DH for something vegetarian and a flat drink. Got coronation chicken and fizzy lemonade. 😂

Have PMI through work, so far I have been charged £1. 😱 A few rules round it but mostly free. Only three private GP referrals a year and done one, not sure when year is.

Glad you bff bought cakes and flowers MrsP

penguinsandpanda · 25/04/2018 13:17

Oh and DH helpfully decided he would start DIY in the bathroom just after I took the MoviPrep and we only have one bathroom. He said he was making the bathroom nice for me.

Duckland · 25/04/2018 13:22

I'm still waiting for both results @Leslie so I'm hoping I'll get them soon. I've been really upset today about it all. The waiting is awfulSad

Mrspotter12 · 25/04/2018 16:11

Oh duckie xx
❤️

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 25/04/2018 17:19

Duckland it truly is Flowers sorry, there really isn't anything to say beyond the fact that this sucks!

penguins oh dear Confused I'm sure he means well... that's good about the private cover.

My mouth has horrid chemo taste and only orange juice is helping. I've already drunk over a pint of it today Blush

OP posts:
purpleunicorns · 25/04/2018 17:28

Oh dear penguins Confused hopefully he gets the bathroom finished soon, bless him for trying to make it nice for you though, he sounds lovely.

This really is the worst Duckland when you're waiting around for results. I found trying keep busy helped, I started decorating just to give me something to do rather than overthink things. Now I just need to finish the rest of the house 😁

penguinsandpanda · 25/04/2018 18:48

Sorry to hear you've been worrying Duckland, waiting is hard, but normally the longer they take to tell you the more chance its good news. I found distraction helped but have just done Netflix, nothing as impressive or useful as Purple's redocoration. Very impressed with that.

DHs improvements have finished and were limited to a different lightbulb and replacing the silver floor bar for landing carpet the cat keeps digging up.

Hope you can get rid of that chemo taste Leslie Starting to improve but I will need a few more years before I do that test again Grin DS said he was hoping to get some of my lucodaze but I drank 3 litres of it instead of eating Blush

Mrspotter12 · 26/04/2018 09:39

Can I just say how disappointing it is that while my left boob feels all swollen & huge it doesn't look any different to the other one!
I have heard they can reconstruct following s mastectomy with belly fat, so am hoping if I need to go down that route I can get rid of my belly at the same time!

On a more boring note I have felt sick since Tuesday evening and this morning felt sick as a dog! Peppermint tea is my friend. Any thoughts? Could Voldemort be causing this? (Still can't face saying it!) or could it be psychosomatic? Or just bad luck? Any thoughts would be appreciated!
xxx

penguinsandpanda · 26/04/2018 09:52

Sorry to hear you are feeling sick MrsP, maybe look on leaflet for side effects - not uncommon for medicine to cause nausea though nerves can too. I would tell the doctors.

I am also feeling sick and that's definitely the medicine still working. I am just eating crisps and plain biscuits today. Quite difficult to find drinks as I'm not a water fan and most others are fruit or fizzy both of which don't help. DH got me a bottle of water with lemon and elderflower but the flavourings are so OTT it tastes like medicine.

Taking today off sick again. My friend got back to me and she's going to try and meet up with me in Australia - miss her so much so very happy. She says she has to persuade her DH to go from NZ.

How are you today Leslie?

I have some lovely colon pictures from my test (they gave them to DH!) and one of them looks like it has a grey 2cm slug on - I am puzzled as I haven't eaten any slugs - guess I will find out on 11th. Hoping its nothing that needs removing.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 26/04/2018 09:58

Mrspotter nausea is probably from the stress rather than anything else. I hope that it eases soon Flowers personally I've always found those Lotus caramelised biscuits to be very good for nausea.

My chest is being a bit iffy so I'm snuggled up on my heat pad. It's amazing how much of a difference it makes. Sending love to everyone :)
