Some of us have been here a while and others have only just joined. If you're lurking, feel free to say hello. We are quite friendly really.

You are welcome to join us, whatever sort of cancer you have, or if you're waiting for tests to find out whether you have cancer or not (we hope not!)

Our previous thread is here. Do check it out if you're new as there's lots of useful information in the first few posts.

Best wishes to everyone who finds themselves here Flowers

Glad your temp has come down now. DS just started the blender by himself. DD has thrown him off and has taken over Grin He keeps giving her strange orders like just lemon juice and now just mint juice and then blaming her blending skills when its not nice. Thankfully we still have enough savoury food in the house still though not sure what else is left to blend but it seems anything can be blended, not sure how long the blender will last but think they are getting our money's worth in one weekend!

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 07/04/2018 23:32

You need to get them making you delicious and nourishing soups :) I'm glad they're having so much fun!

Nicky happy birthday Flowers
Leslie glad they didn't keep you in. Best looks cosy. Hope you feel better soon.
TQ oops sorry about hair Blush. My chemo only makes nerves in hand and feet go dodgy so I forgot!
Penguins hope all the tests go well and blender mixtures don't get too weird. I'm on a weight increasing diet of banana and nut butter smoothies at the moment - fairly tasty.

I did escape from hospital finally Grin and have been approved to start chemo next week provided everything stays working (fingers crossed!). So nice to be home and feeling well. No more hospital jelly! Making the most of it before next week's side effects.

royalmama · 08/04/2018 18:15

Hello lovely lacies. I haven't posted in ages. I keep meaning to, but get distracted. I have mixed feelings about seeing so many newbies. This is definitely the right place, hut I am sorry you had to join.
It's absolutely wonderful to see,as usual, our super lacy Leslie actively keeping this place warm, friendly and supportive.
I've tried reading back and will continue doing so!
To those who are new to the thread I was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2015, had lumpectomy, axillary clearance , chemo and rads. I'm on hormone therapy pills( arimadex) after having taken tamoxifen for 6 months. My oncologist , very confident that I became menopausal, switched me to the arimadex. I've had my fair share of scares since completing treatment as the lovely lacies here know, but I'm grateful that the cancer has, as far as I know, kept away!

I've been ok in general. Running around as a mum would, but of course I'm reminded quite often of my fragile situation with varied annoyances be it bone pain( not too bad tbh), my lymphedema of course, and then there's the glorious heat flushesBlush
I have follow up exams coming up, mainly to monitor my breast after that scare of six months ago. I also have my second Prolia injection coming up in June ( to counter chemo induced suggested osteoporosis and to keep cancer away from bones so they say!)
Anyways, sorry for my lengthy post and for not being on here more often. I wish each and every one of you the best there is.

‘super lacy Leslie actively keeping this place warm, friendly and supportive‘

That makes her sound like the perfect bra....

penguinsandpanda · 08/04/2018 21:37

Hope you are feeling OK today Leslie I did already ask about soup but got a Hmm reaction but it would be nice.

Tayto Glad you escaped hospital, sorry its not for longer.

Royal Hope your follow up goes well.

iVampire Hope you're OK.

Slept a lot again, wondering why I thought an appointment that involves going on a lot of the M25 in rush hour was a good idea Grin

royalmama · 09/04/2018 03:44

Hi ivampire..laughing @ the perfect bra..you know she does "lift us all up"Grin
Thanks penguinsandpandas!
Leslie, how are you feeling?
Mrs, how are you doing and what have you decided re surgery? (Sorry if I missed that)

TwitterQueen1 · 09/04/2018 08:23

Thinking of you today Penguins, good luck with your appt.
Leslie I hope your pain has gone away or has diminished at the very least. I found some superior crop tops (for only £10 for 2) in TK Max last week - definitely warm and supportive! Wink
Hi Royal glad you're doing OK.

Definitely feel a bit worse this time around (#4) but hopefully another day or two should see me as right as I can be....

GO AWAY RAIN

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 09/04/2018 12:11

Well, iVampire this is the first time I've ever been compared to a bra! Grin how are you?

Tayto hooray for finally escaping hospital! I hope the chemo will not have too many side effects.

royal lovely to hear from you, but sorry the various treatment side effects are still causing you bother. Good luck with your check ups Flowers

TQ I hope you feel much better soon Flowers

penguins hopefully it'll be worth it! i

I saw the GP this morning. She thinks I might have a UTI so I'm on antibiotics for that. My body is just a disaster at the moment HmmGrin

OP posts:
penguinsandpanda · 09/04/2018 13:15

Thanks TQ Appointment is tomorrow at 9am, suddenly though it wasn't today and I slept through it but no it is tomorrow. Grin Only the initial chat. Sorry you are feeling unwell, hope it starts to improve.

Sorry to hear you have a uti Leslie. My manager phoned earlier and was asking for work to be done super fast - had to explain I can only do snail mode - I did the first bit then fell asleep so now I will try and do the rest. I am hoping it will improve off the meds but looks like you have 2 days of meds pre colonoscopy. If it doesn't improve might just need to get signed off. At the moment I can just do my 5 hours per day wfh and sleep.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 09/04/2018 17:11

I hope you managed to get it done penguins. I'm impressed you're still managing five hours a day! No wonder you're needing so much sleep. Yes there's usually a couple of days of bowel prep before the colonoscopy. Are you feeling any better after the antibiotics?

OP posts:
penguinsandpanda · 09/04/2018 17:40

I think the antibiotics worked but will be glad when I'm off them - I was supposed to finish end Tuesday but seem to have forgotten one. I did finish the work and did some washing and now I'm collapsing again and I've just read another target for after the hospital tomorrow, urgh. Still I have Wed off in theory I was supposed to go to red pandas but won't be up to that so can sleep then. Another target for Thurs but then manager has suggested giving some of my work to a colleague which hopefully should help so the end is in sight.

How are you feeling? Are you antibiotics working? I am a uti specialist Grin

royalmama · 09/04/2018 18:00

Hello Leslie and thanks. I have much to be thankful for despite the SEs! Sorry to hear you've contracted a UTI and hope the meds ckwar it up asap . I think I may have one myself come to think of it.
Hope everyone is doing as well as can be.

penguinsandpanda · 09/04/2018 18:03

DH was supposed by taking cat to vet tonight - he's just played hunt the cat for 30 mins and lost. Grin

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 09/04/2018 21:38

royal sorry to hear that Flowers I hope it eases soon. Do you have any of those sachets until you can get to the GP?

penguins what a shame you'll miss the red pandas Sad are the others still going? Good idea to delegate some of your work. And Grin at the cat's lucky escape - hopefully not an urgent vet visit?!

I'm feeling alright thanks. I've only had one tablet so far. But they've turned my wee fluorescent so that's something! Hmm

OP posts:
penguinsandpanda · 09/04/2018 21:52

Glad you are feeling OK. I normally find the uti meds work pretty fast.

DS will go to the red pandas, DD was supposed to be going to feed them too but has decided she's too old at 12 and DS is desperate for his one friend to come but his Dad doesn't seem to be picking up messages and DS says it has to be this friend. Cat was just her annual check, she hid for an extra two hours.

mrsrhodgilbert · 10/04/2018 08:58

Hi royal nice to hear from you again. I had the surgery three weeks ago and I'm feeling fine thanks, apart from I can't really feel my bladder anymore but I'm hoping that will improve. I've had my birthday in the last week and yesterday was our 30th wedding anniversary so we had a lovely day out and the weather was amazing, unusual for Yorkshire. Today is my 4th annual mammogram so down to earth with a bump, I'd better go and get dressed. Hello to all

royalmama · 10/04/2018 10:35

Good morning lacies.
Leslie good to hear you're feeling better.
mrs a belated happy birthday is in order and many many happy returns to you and your DHFlowers you deserve to be happy!
Glad to hear you got that gyaena matter settled and hopefully the bladder issue will resolve itself! Will you still have to rake tamoxifen?
Good day to all.

penguinsandpanda · 10/04/2018 11:34

Hope you are continuing to feel better Leslie

MrsR Hope the mammogram goes OK.

Just back from initial consultation - doctor (Who apparently is the adviser to Holby City and Harley Street TV programmes Grin ) said he thinks its unlikely to be cancer - phew but needs a colonoscopy on 24/4 to be sure. So encouraging.

mrsrhodgilbert · 10/04/2018 11:41

Well mammogram has been done. She spooked me a bit by having to re do one of the images, I was holding my other breast out of the way with my free hand and she said she thought she could see a finger in the image. But that would be impossible wouldn't it so I'm now wondering what she saw? She seemed happier second time but I stupidly didn't ask if what she saw had disappeared because I was a bit crippled with fear at that point. It was my affected breast which I'm now prodding for lumps.

royal I came off tamoxifen nearly a year ago and onto anastrazole which can only be used post menopause. Turned out I wasn't post menopausal, cue lots of messing about over many months and finally surgery to remove ovaries and tubes three weeks ago. I wanted a certain and permanent solution to the issue. I'll take anastrazole until next year.

royalmama · 10/04/2018 12:43

mrs I'm pretty sure your mammo wwill be fine. Mine is next week.
I do remember your switch from tamoxifen to anastrozole and wgart ensued. I had thought the doc had switched back to tamoxifen when it became clear that you were not menopausal. Anyways, a year will be over before you know it!
penguinsandpanda what a relief indeed! Let's hope the colonoscopy confirms that. Pretty sure he'd have been highly suspicious if it were cancer.

nickyplustwo · 11/04/2018 08:59

Good news penguins - onwards and upwards! Hi royal and mrsrhod - keeping everything crossed for clear mammos for you both. leslie - loving the bra analogy. Hope the uti clears up without incident and your body behaves itself for a bit. I always think it feels like game of ‘whack a mole’ - you just smash one thing on the head and another little bastard pops up somewhere! TQ sending you cycle 4 Caelyx sympathies. I have never felt so shit! So pukey and so feeble! And so relentless. Hope you are faring better today. X

Taytotots · 11/04/2018 09:06

penguins that's great news. Hope colonoscopy goes well. In the mean time I definitely do not recommend avocado and banana smoothie in your blender - suspect major factor in me throwing up after chemo yesterday well either that or the mcflurry I had too Blush

Leslie hope temp stays down and you are feeling ok.

Mrs Rhod happy anniversary Flowers. Good luck with mammogram results.

Had first oxyplatin IV yesterday. So far so good. Threw up after but suspect diet related. Weird peripheral neuropathy side effects so can't touch or eat anything even slightly cold without getting pins and needles - must have looked funny eating dinner with gloves on last night. Can type again though now tremors have stopped. Fingers crossed pill side effects not too bad.

penguinsandpanda · 11/04/2018 09:30

Thanks very much - I think he must have done a rigid sigmoidoscopy (he said he was using a telescope) yesterday and as the bleeding is bright red it looks pretty hopeful for it being fine. The ladies in the pharmacy asked me if I was related to the doctor - I was puzzled as the doctor looked a bit like Arnold Schwarzenegger about 6 foot 5 and wide and I'm much smaller. The nurse was laughing when he told me to get on the couch and I was struggling to get up as it was set for his height with no step. They did say he has lots of relatives by me but not everyone in this area is related. Grin

Royal Hope your mammo goes well next week.

MrsR Hope mammo was OK.

Nicky Thanks so much - not sure I'm going upwards Grin but just very happy its onwards at least.

Tayto Sorry to hear you were sick - hope that improves. All veg are banned in our blender and we are currently having a rest from milkshakes after the kids went through 4 litres of ice cream in 2 days. It's like when you eat so much chocolate you don't want to eat it again for a while. Grin

Leslie Hope you and the bunnies are OK. How are you feeling?

TwitterQueen1 · 11/04/2018 09:54

I am feeling bad-tempered and sulky this morning Angry
Took the DDs out for DD3 birthday Indian last meal last night and pretty much sat in silence while DSis held court and monopolised the whole evening. She knows everything about everything - book clubs, authors, restaurants and bookshops all over the country etc etc. Whatever you say she will trump it with a "Oh yes but have you been to xyz..." When I said I was doing Woolly Hugs she said "Oh I've got lots of yarn and patterns I can give you (I don't want them - it's the wrong wool) and did you know this is the best way of casting on...."

Words don't always come quickly in my brain-fogged state and having been ill for a year+ I don't have any exciting trips or news or activities to talk about. I was hoping for a nice, quiet evening but it was very much a Queen Sis eve...

Can you tell I'm fed up?! Nicky it's rubbish isn't it! Leslie is that body of yours behaving any better? Tatyto I nearly barfed at just the thought of banana and avocado together. I can't get off the carbs myself. I know I need to rest as I just want to cry all the time...
