Heyup Beety. Good to have you back.

OP posts:
Pidge · 06/05/2007 20:23

welcome back beety, and welcome hana

Still no run for me - my foot is definitely better, but was still hurting enough on Friday to persuade me not to go out. Am hoping I will benefit from having been hugely well behaved and not run at all for two weeks post marathon, as I have a (admittedly informal) 10k in 2 weeks. Have promised myself a half hour outing tomorrow, and then hopefully running club on Tuesday.

hatwoman - hope you're all fit again after your Kingston induced injuries.

Wuxiapian · 06/05/2007 21:30

Just wondering why on earth my left shin's been hurting since I started running.

Am I running incorrectly?
Anyone else suffer with this pain?

Thanks in advance

hattie2 · 06/05/2007 22:08

Could be shin splints? This page has some info.

I've (touch wood!) never suffered from this so can't suggest any treatment I'm afraid.

HTH

Wuxiapian · 06/05/2007 22:35

hattie2, thank you for the response.

Yes, certainly looks like shin splints.
I was planning to run tomorrow morning, but maybe I should rest instead. Tut. I am not best pleased.

Anyone had this and how's the best way to fix it?

Thanks again

MrsSpoon · 06/05/2007 23:00

Anyone got any ideas about my sore hips, they are not sore now, hoping that means it's a muscular pain. DH convinced that I am going to have a hip replacement before I am 50.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 06/05/2007 23:03

Are you stretching afterwards MrsSpoon?

Just off to my bed but google 'hip abductor stretch'.

OP posts:
MrsSpoon · 06/05/2007 23:50

That's an idea Saggar, I didn't stretch much as I was going straight into an aerobics class, just did some quick hamstring, quads, calf stretches, felt the hips beginning to seize a bit during the aerobics. I will try some hip abductor stretches next time (forgot all about those ). Thanks.

Pidge · 07/05/2007 20:57

Don't have any knowledge of shin splints, but I do get a sore right hip after long or fast runs. I think it's the IT band - which stretches from your hip to your knee and if it gets tight it can pull on either hip or knee causing pain. It's an incredibly common runner's ailment. Don't know what your adbuctor stretches are - but I do some IT band stretches which seems to help.

My momentous news .... I FINALLY got out the door for my first post FLM run! Only half an hour around the park but it felt pretty good. My foot/ankle is still a bit tender but was no worse at the end of the run, so that's good.

The most annoying thing is that my marathon trainers have completely worn through at the back and are rubbing and will have to be thrown out. They've only done 150-200 miles, and I think they're supposed to last more like 300-500. And they've worn in exactly the same place as my other trainers and it's where I got a blister in the marathon. So I need to get to the running shop and tell them I can't afford to spend £70 on trainers every 2-3 months and can they get me a pair that won't fall apart!

mustrunmore · 07/05/2007 21:57

Take them back with a list of all the running you've done to prove they didnt last Well done on getting out I only did a crap 5.5km tonight, but at least its better than nothing. And tomorrow... dh has volunteered to suffer playgroup with the boys so I can have a run before he goes to work Double whammy; I get to run, and I dont have to spend a tedious 1.5hours following little ds2 everywhere and making snippets of small talk

Lilliput · 08/05/2007 09:11

What do you wear to run in when it's raining? I got soaked on Sunday but I think I would get way too sweaty in anything waterproof.

ThatBeetroot · 08/05/2007 09:13

i was all ready to go this morning and it was peeing down - will wait awile I think - fair weather runner

themoon66 · 08/05/2007 09:19

Hello.... can I join this running club please??

I have had a whole year off running due to many injuries, including achilles tendon, tendonitis in my knee and three calf muscle tears - one after the other.

I started running again in late February and are managing 5 runs a week. I have increased my running time by 5 mins each week too, and am not up to 55 mins this week.

There is, I think, a five mile race in Grimsby in mid August that I think I will aim to do, coz it's nice and flat.

themoon66 · 08/05/2007 09:19

'not'... should read 'NOW'... dur.

Lilliput · 08/05/2007 09:23

Of course it has dried up now but dh has gone to work and I am with ds, plus I am showered and dressed now. I will have to go tomorrow morning even if it is peeing down.

glitterfairy · 08/05/2007 09:23

HIya Beety. AM trying to pluck up courage to go out but it is a howling gale here as well and really cold. I am going to do a job first and then go out evenif the rain hasnt stopped by lunch time. I dont mind rain but this is sheeting and as I said wind.

I have no waterproof gear and will need to get some for the winter but any tips welcome.

themoon66 · 08/05/2007 09:24

Liliput... can you not run this evening instead? Its light until 8.30pm.

mckenzie · 08/05/2007 09:28

welcome themoon66. I too have been off for 11 months with an injury so I know where you are coming from. I'm up to 3 times a week now and still pain free. I upped the pace on 2 of this weeks runs and still pain free so I'm very happy

themoon66 · 08/05/2007 09:31

mckenzie - what injury did you have?

ThatBeetroot · 08/05/2007 09:31

It has stopped here now but have jsut eaten os need to wait an hour.

good on you Glitter

Lilliput · 08/05/2007 09:55

Dh is a chef so he works evenings too, it's a lonely existence. I might get my mum to sit for half an hour this evening.

ThatBeetroot · 08/05/2007 11:05

just back fomr a 5. 4 mile run - in 48 mins

Pidge · 08/05/2007 11:36

blimey beety - that's great going!

I'm cursing because my foot is sore again today. Not massively painful, but definitely not right either. Still contemplating trying a 5 miler tonight though!!

Heathcliffscathy · 08/05/2007 11:37

i ran 53 minutes yesterday....can't vouch for speed, but longest ever run.

themoon66 · 08/05/2007 11:58

I ran 5.3 at the weekend and it took me 50 mins. I felt I was going flat out, so well done Beety!
