Hiya Duchess - well done on your run!. I must admit I did think 5k seemed really quite far! but I would love to go further.

Foxey · 26/06/2007 13:51

Wow - you have done really well - since Jan! So is 10k your furthest so far and now working up to half marathon?

glitterfairy · 26/06/2007 13:55

I run 7 miles at the weekends and am just working up to 8. I walk a bit but not as much as I used to and can run 4 miles now without a problem.

My feeling is that so long as oyu are not worried abotu how fast you go and shamble along at a very easy jog anything is possible. I know when I speed up like this morning I still have to walk every now and then.

There are people on this thread though who are really impressive and did the marathon this year in the sweltering heat. I think the great thing about running is each person can do what they want and test themselves. Even coming last in my 5k at 42 minutes (and it was really hilly) people stopped to clap and were really encouraging.

mustrunmore · 26/06/2007 14:14

Foxey, when I run wih other people, i just say at the start that we should try and keep pace together ,but that if anyone wants to stop, they can, and then we'll all catch up with each other in the end. Having said that, there are some people that I just find it easy to run with, and some that I dont, for far more inexplicable reasons than different levels of fitness.
I will run tonight. So with myself for not runnnig last night (headache, tired, trying to find a 2 night break that doesnt cost the earth for 3 adults and 4 kids...) I've had 3 days of no exercise now

BellaLasagne · 26/06/2007 14:47

Can I crawl in...?

Just back from my 1st 5km. Have only managed 3km so far so this is a big step, ho ho!

Walked half, ran half, so feeling rather pleased with myself even though my shins really hurt now.

(Background - doing 1st RFL on 15th July - non runner.)

popsycal · 26/06/2007 14:58

Bella - which RFl ar you doing?
Mine is on the 15th too.

BellaLasagne · 26/06/2007 15:04

Hi, I'm in the Hereford one on 15th

Think I might be on here somewhere further down....either that or the RFL thread under Charities

popsycal · 26/06/2007 15:05

and I am way up north

BellaLasagne · 26/06/2007 15:14

Where roughly?

Are you suffering from the storms at the moment?

popsycal · 26/06/2007 15:17

sheefield is the deep south to me

Foxey · 26/06/2007 16:01

mustrunmore - that sounds like something i might be able to say. otherwise will just have to train properly on own and then run with them on non run days? bella well done on your run but do you think you may need new/different running trainers -painful shins are horrible and make it very difficult.

BellaLasagne · 26/06/2007 16:37

They are fairly new in that I bought them last summer and they haven't done much mileage since then

They're decent Reebok cross-trainers.

popsycal · 26/06/2007 16:50

Bella - I had decent trainers but I had to get different ones as I seriously roll in. Actually, when I extend my leg, it is turned out (that's years of dancing for you) and then my foot is very flat so the rolling in effect is doubled if you like. What does your wet footprint look like?

mustrunmore · 26/06/2007 18:10

foxey, i do also kind of do that. When dh is off, I do 5-8km in the morning, properly, and then run as an extra with a friend in the evening. I've donte that a few times now, and its really nice, as I can really just enjoy the PM one with no pressure IYSWIM!

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 26/06/2007 18:34

Had to run 1k unexpectedly this afternoon in my Birkies. Made suprisingly good time.

popsycal · 26/06/2007 20:10

lol stripey

glitterfairy · 26/06/2007 22:17

LOl but I bet you missed your running shoes. Cross trainers arent the same as proper fitted running shoes you need a specialist.

Foxey · 27/06/2007 14:09

Am going for a run tonight as haven't been since Sunday but it looks like its going to pour down (no doubt it will wait till I have my trainers on). Anyone else going out in the rain tonight?

Rodeo · 27/06/2007 14:44

Hi, Can I join you please?!
I ran the Race for Life last night at Castle Donington Race track, it was fab! Managed to do it in 31 mins exactly with my running partner
We've been running twice a week for 3 and a half weeks in preparation, it's been hard but pretty rewarding. Still don't love it yet though...will that come?! Some of the mums we run with are doing 10ks and half marathons, but can't see myself doing that at all!
Great to read everyone's achievements - do you all love it? Or are some of you still unsure?!

Foxey · 27/06/2007 14:56

I love it ...when I have just been, but sometimes have to give me bum a little shove out the door...especially days like today when wet grey and cold. hi rodeo

BellaLasagne · 27/06/2007 17:13

Ooh, I hadn't thought of looking - what's it supposed to look like?

Just got in from work so not able to do it now...

popsycal · 27/06/2007 17:49

Just come back from my run
Did my 3.4 miles again - 2 laps around the area where I live. 1st lap of 1.7 miles =15:20
3.4 miles total = 30:42.

I really pushed the first lap, slowed down around the 2 mile point deliberately then picked up again after a few mins and legged it (technical term) for the last quarter of a mile.

Was impressed with myself but I feel I have pushed it a bit. One hamstring feels stiff and the front, but towards the inside, of my thighs feel achey. Have stretched really well, but is there anything else I can do?

popsycal · 27/06/2007 19:35

Apologies for using this as a blog - maybe I ought to get on
Just checked and I ran almost 3 minutes quicker - explains sore legs!
They feel a bit better now - but is thre anything else that I can do? i made sure that I had a really good stretch...

TheDuchessOfNorks · 27/06/2007 22:57

Hello Rodeo. You're doing very well with the running if you don't love it! Glitter, popsycal & I all started running this year and appear to be addicted!

popsycal - have a bath. And don't run tomorrow. If it's just muscle ache it will go away.

My calves & thighs ached last night due to 5k run and a very late night. I haven't run today but I have clocked up over 18,000 steps so I haven't exactly had a quiet day either! Feel OK now. Will do a slow 2k tomorrow and see how I get on.

TheDuchessOfNorks · 27/06/2007 23:00

popsycal - great time btw.
