events here

Sorry guys only marathon things on realbuzz but runners world has events. I linked to it for you all.

popsycal · 26/06/2007 08:43

thanks glitterfairy

I went out and ran a mile in the end. Forgot my stopwatch - which was actually rather nice

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 26/06/2007 11:03

Yep, have done my 5k. Now training for a 6mile fell race in Sept, then a 10k road run in Feb. Hope to find some others to do as well.

Ran 5.5k in 36mins this morning. I take it nce and slow as I'm wanting to build my stamina up first. Then will work on my speed.

glitterfairy · 26/06/2007 11:24

You are still faster than me!

popsycal · 26/06/2007 11:31

WOuld it be ridiculous of me to do a 5K a week after my race for life?

glitterfairy · 26/06/2007 11:34

No 5k is a really ok distance. 10k yes but I dont think 5k is a problem. Although having said that my first 5k was a nightmare very very hilly and full of proper club runners. I felt a total fraud but wouldnt care at all now.

Right off to run NOW!

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 26/06/2007 11:46

How many times a week does everyone run? I go out 3x a week, but am thinking of trying to go 4x when I can.

themoon66 · 26/06/2007 11:48

I run 4 or 5 times a week, but two of those are with a running club (Tues and Thurs).

Foxey · 26/06/2007 11:49

Hiya girls, I'm new to this thread. I use to run before i got pregnant with dd1 (13mths), but only 2/3 30mins a week. I started last week and managed 3 mile run on Sunday 30mins (as was starting to panic about Race for life). Is it realistic to try and run 10k in October? I love running but have never really gone any real distance.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 26/06/2007 11:52

Hiya Foxey,

Sounds like your base level of fitness has remained good if you could do 3miles in 30mins the first week back to running.

You should be able to do a 10k in Oct.

Increase your training by a max of 10% distance each week. Anymore than 10% and you risk injury.

3 miles is 5k, so next week run 5.5k, then 6k the week after, etc.

Foxey · 26/06/2007 12:13

Thanks SKSS, I hope my level of fitness has remained and wasn't a one off!. I am out again tomorrow (as hangover has lasted longer then expected) and is defo no good for training head. Its probably good advise about increasing the distance but thats' where my problem lies I haven't really challenged myself go further always the same distance...for years.

popsycal · 26/06/2007 12:34

foxy - i only started running from scratch at the end of april and can pretty much run 5K now (good job, as race for life in a few weeks)
Have my name down for a 10k in september (which I am starting to worry a little about )

Foxey · 26/06/2007 12:39

Hi Posycal - you are so enthusiastic about your running its great - well done! I will feel better tomorrow after I have run again. I guess its about the same then from 5k to 10k in 2/3 mths -eek glad I'm the latter. Are you preparing as stripey suggests and extending by 10% up to your 10k?

Foxey · 26/06/2007 12:42

btw - how much have raised for RFL?

popsycal · 26/06/2007 12:45

There are some training plans to get you from 5k to 10k on the internet. Not sure which I will do yet

Raised abtou 100 pound so far

Foxey · 26/06/2007 13:14

Also i have a running dilema. There are a couple girls from my work doing the race for life and they were like 'oh yeah run with us' so I went for a run with them but 5 mins in they stopped and walked. I am no great athlete but i do really want to train properly for the race. I am not being a b**ch but they want me to go with them again and I really want to get back into running. Any suggestions on how to politely get out of this?

glitterfairy · 26/06/2007 13:18

Say you have something else to do or not this week thanks. Or be brave and say only if we run all the way.

Lilliput · 26/06/2007 13:21

When they ask you to run with them say you are having a rest day because you went this morning/yesterday. Tricky if they want to plan running a little more in advance.

Foxey · 26/06/2007 13:29

Tbh they already asked me to go on monday and I said No I can't as I ran yesterday and the girl I was chatting to said that's ok we cn go later in the week...( I dont think they went on Monday).

Foxey · 26/06/2007 13:43

Also glitterfairy thanks for the be brave suggestion, I would love to but think everyone will hate me. Also good luck for your 10k and raising the money for your Dads unit and for your half marathon! v impressive, have you always run? And, how long does it take to get from a novice 5k to half marathon?

TheDuchessOfNorks · 26/06/2007 13:44

**

I did 5k of continuous running. About 36mins. Not brilliant but as I'm not a distance runner I'm quite pleased with it.

popsycal · 26/06/2007 13:45

wahy duchess!!!

We are all getting there now

TheDuchessOfNorks · 26/06/2007 13:45

Hello Foxey! Welcome to the thread. I'm finding it very encouraging - particularly popsycal & glitter!

glitterfairy · 26/06/2007 13:49

Thanks Duchess and really well done!

No Foxey I only started this year in January and thought I really couldnt. I started very very slowly to run a little and found I loved it and could do it.

I am extremely overweight and have lost four stone now which has helped. I mix up my running with cycling and swimming and find that helps as well. I have a personal trainer (present from my dad ) and he sets me my training plans and sorts out how much I can do. Honestly if I can do it anyone can.
