ALso =- another thing that I did was two laps of the same circular route.....and I quite liked the fact the I ran past the same people in their gardens, sitting outside the pub, mowing their lawn, etc, TWICE

TheDuchessOfNorks · 22/06/2007 20:09

Likewise in awe of your 3.4!

Good this running, innit?!

popsycal · 22/06/2007 20:30

can I just mention www.sportsshoes.com

Have found them fab for shoes and running gear. Dead cheap too

Wallace · 22/06/2007 21:37

pops (do we know each other well enough now for mw to call you that - I found the same on thurs when i restarted running after my walking section. i think it may like you said about not having eaten, because I went at lunchtime and i was starving.

My 5k is a week tomorrow nd we are so busy moving house next week, not the best timing!

Good luck DD for your 10 k tomorrow

Deviousdaffodil · 23/06/2007 10:55

Getting very nervous about tomorrow. Am desparately rubbing Ibuprofen gel into a naggy ankle.
Am resting today ( apart from cubs feete and cbarbecue later - no alcohol for me though) Plan on getting an early night and a big bowl of porridge in the morning. Will let you knoww how I get on !

glitterfairy · 23/06/2007 12:55

Dd best of luck and hope it all goes well.

Pidge · 23/06/2007 13:09

Good luck devious - fingers crossed for a healthy ankle and a fine run.

I dragged myself out at 8am for a one hour ten minute run - by some way the longest since the FLM - I hated it for the first 20 minutes, kind of ok after that. But feel exhausted now, whereas I always used to feel invigorated and bionic after those longish outings.

Still, nice to have the weekend run done and dusted.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 23/06/2007 14:29

Ran 5k without stopping today, planning on doing 7k on Tuesday which will be my futherest run yet!

popsycal · 23/06/2007 21:37

good luck devious

i am looking forward to my run tomorrow. Set dh with the challenge of putting tunes on my mp3 player. he has every possible tune under the sun. He asked what I wanted on and I told him to choose stuff he thinks I like - talk about pressure. But crikey - he has done good. Bit of 70s disco to start off, jack johnson, bit of swing, bit of james, stone roses, ahppy mondays (student years), mid 80s (wham, duran duran, aha, etc), bit of robbie and lots of The First Compilation Tape Made When We Met 10 Years Ago.

Good choice

TheDuchessOfNorks · 24/06/2007 16:45

Devious??? How did it go?

I haven't run all weekend, we've had friends here. I'm going to to attempt a 5k this week but will probably have a long walk in the middle!

DeviousDaffodil · 24/06/2007 17:10

Well I completed the 10k in 1h02.35!
Was a bit disapointed as I wasnted to do it in less than an hour. The course was hillier than I expected and for a lot of the time I was running alone - but I wasn't last!
It was really hard though much harder than i expected, my legs wrer like lead the last 2k!
Am so chuffed I did it.
Good luck to the race for lifers next week!!

popsycal · 24/06/2007 18:27

well done devious!
That is brilliant! I am very worried abotu hills as I avoid them like the plague!!!

I ahd a good run this morning. 3.5 miles...3 mile time was around 28.5 mins. had a 2 minute walk in the middle.

Wallace · 24/06/2007 19:03

well done DD

I ran 4k without any walking today, in 24:20 I think I am on track for my 5k next sunday!

lemonstartree · 24/06/2007 19:42

Hi Guys

new to this thread and I am so impressed with everyones achievements

I started running properly in Jan 07 after a false start last summer when I injured my back.

it has been quite slow going ( literally) and complicated by a broken toe that prevented me from entering my first 10K race in may this year.

but today I made it !! 10k in 1hr and 6 mins ( a bit less good than daffaodil) in the rain adn i feel so pleased - especially as I had predicted my time at about 1hr 10....

hope to join in here a bit as I improve my running1

one question - I started this in order to help me lose weight, and lost 1 stone ( out of 2.5 I had to lose ) quite quickly. The rest has been SO hard to shift despite running 20k or so a week.. ... I HAVE changed shape a bit, I think, and clothes seem a bit looser BUT still the scales are stubbornly set .. anyone else exerienced this ?

best wishes to all

lst

popsycal · 24/06/2007 19:44

welcome lemonstarttree!

The reason I love this thread is that three are runners of all abilites here and at different levels of 'newness; to running but eveyone is made to feel so welcome!!!

Your 10k time sounds great! I am busy panicking about a measly 5k in three weeks!

Enjoy this thread!

popsycal · 24/06/2007 19:46

About the weight thing. It had not occurred to me about losing weight until MIL asked if that is why I am doing it (I am a size 10-12 and althogh I have a few flabby 'baby' bits, I am perfectly happy with how I look ). I have not lost any weight and do not seemto have changed shape - but then I have only been running for around 8 weeks..

popsycal · 24/06/2007 19:51

right I have a question for the more experienced runners.....
The next 3 weeks. I have finished the bupa 8 week programme and have kind of reworked the race for life one and this is roughly my plan:
This week:

  1. run 20 walk 5 run 20
  2. run 20
  3. run 2 miles then walk/run 3rd mile (though hopefully mostly run) Next week:
  4. run 25 mins
  5. run 30 mins
  6. run 25 mins Race for life week:
  7. run 30 mins
  8. run 20 mins
  9. run 15 mins

then run!

popsycal · 24/06/2007 19:53

Forgot to ask my question!!
Does that plan seem reasonable? Or should I ditch the walking amlarky this week - given that I can do 2 miles continuous in under 20 mins and have done 3.5 miles with a 2 min walk in the middle........

help

TheDuchessOfNorks · 24/06/2007 19:54

Well done Devious and Lemon. That's good running!

Stabilising weight is probably something to do with building muscles, which weigh more than fat so although you're getting a more toned physique, the scales may not show the goal you want. I never worry about the numbers on the scales, just the size of clothes.

ie. at my 'thinnest' I was a size 8 and still weighed over 9 stone. As a size 12 I weigh 10.5 stone - I know other size 12s who weigh a tiddly little 8 stone (weaklings, I call 'em)!!

Wallace · 24/06/2007 20:09

popsycal - I was going to ask the same question!

I find it easier to just keep running rather than restart after walking. I did 4k continuous today, and wonder whther I should just keep going...

popsycal · 24/06/2007 20:11

I think we ought to just do a Forrest Gump actually

Wallace · 24/06/2007 20:14

I'm not losing weight, but I am toning up. Still breastfeeding too, so eating heaps!

Wallace · 24/06/2007 20:15

LOL I often think of forest gump when I am running, I see the attraction

DeviousDaffodil · 24/06/2007 20:17

Thanks girls and welcome lemonst!
Intersting point about weight I have been running reg for about 1 year and have lost little weight. My thighs are thinner and bum is firmer.
But then I pretty much eat what I like.
It would be nice to loose some pounds though!
Ihave never got on with running / walking / running plans, I find once I find my stride it is easier to keep running.
Although did have to walk up a particularly steep hill today.

popsycal · 24/06/2007 20:19

I eat whatever I like too. Doesnt cross my mind not to. One of these days, all of the eating of dinner leftovers will catch up on me

My bum is firmer - whichis nice as I have a flat bum - my legs are firmer too. Still have flabby tummy and lack of a waist but hey ho
