Popsy how annoying. I don't know why but when you are running people must think they have the liberty too say things they would not dream of saying nromally.
A few months back ssome guy shouted ' look at her big arse!'
. He was a bout 5'4" and twnety stone.
My reply = 'Fu** off!'
I love my ipodt to run withi have all my fave songs on there i could run forever when I wear it.
Hope I can run forever on Sun - got my 10k ( wibble)

Lilliput · 20/06/2007 21:13

I've just done my usual route of 3 miles and it was really tough tonight. I'm telling my self it's because my dinner was sitting a little heavy still, I usually run in the morning and I was also not happy with the music on my ipod shuffle. Grrrrrrr. I'm not going to get a chance to go again this week to make myself feel better. Double grrrrrrr.

DeviousDaffodil · 20/06/2007 21:19

I wanted to go tomorrow am when ds2 at nursery but just remebered it his sports day , so grrrring with you liilput!
Shall have to enter the mums race now!

mustrunmore · 20/06/2007 21:27

Well, this is how my run went this morning:
5am we all get up and play cars and dressing up
7am we all go down for brekkie, I put washing on etc etc
8am I go and get my kit on, and decide to have a bit of a think on the bed for a few minutes
9am Dh wakes me up to ask if I'm going to run, I say yes
10am I wake up again
10.15am I finally get myself moving, do 16 mins, and have to stop due to exhaustion/lack of time/ds1 needing help on the cbeebies website

glitterfairy · 20/06/2007 22:32

Popsy when I was doing my 10k the other week in the blistering heat a four year old shouted go on fat lady run some more! I laughed! I think it is always down to envy and jealousy. This four year old was gross in any case and could hardly toddle about.

My run was pants today and developed into a walk which was actually rather nice as I chose to follow a footpath I came across instead. Still I went out.

mustrunmore · 20/06/2007 22:35

No one's ever said anything about me, although I have had a comment about my clothes.. which I'd have had to agree with really!

Ds1 keeps telling me he wants a look at my 'huge trampoline belly' too He means it in a totally descriptive and non insulting way, which makes it worse!

TheDuchessOfNorks · 20/06/2007 23:31

popsycal - well done. I'm going to look into doing a 5k Race for Life.

glitter - you're going really well.

I've been running an 8 minute mile (have taken 6 minutes off the time in 6 weeks). I don't seem to be progressing with the distance at all though. Maybe I'm happier doing ever faster miles? My legs get so leaden after 15 minutes. But I read Saggars post with interest and hope!

DeviousDaffodil · 21/06/2007 18:31

Just got back form 3 miles. It took me half an hour and I was rubbish.
Would be ok If I didn't have to run 10k on Sunday. What am I doing?!!!

Pidge · 21/06/2007 20:05

TheDuchess - 8 minute mile is fast - if you slow down you will go further - it's the only way!

LOL re rude comments - I quite often get heckled - but that's what comes of running round Peckham and Camberwell in the evening when the local yoof are hanging out I suppose. One bloke shouted "Don't worry love only 10 miles to go" and I was only 1 mile into a 19 mile training run for the marathon - I nearly hit him.

I managed my first lunchtime run at work since before the marathon today. What a treat - it's always so hard to fit in because things are busy, but I'm sure I'm soo invigorated I work twice as hard afterwards!

TheDuchessOfNorks · 21/06/2007 20:41

I used to do sprints & middle distance at County level (25 years ago I might add) so I guess I've always preferred speed over distance. But now I want stamina and fitness. I am aiming to run 2 miles tomorrow and will try to go slower!

Lead legs - is that just lack of muscle do you think? Would being anaemic affect the blood/circulation etc. I've never experienced it before.

LOL at Peckham 'audience'.

mustrunmore · 21/06/2007 21:10

8 mins is fast

Pidge, do you have a shower at work then, or dont you work up a sweat? Sorry if weveryone else knows your occupation, and its just me being daft! i'm just interested about finer points like recovering and then working the rest of the day!

Well, I did 6km treadmill this monrnig before going out, then did a little 22 min park run this evenig, so thats not too bad. Wanted to get some ab work in, but I'm stuck baking for the summer fair now, and popping on here in the interim!

popsycal · 21/06/2007 21:22

RIght - I am pretty much wettingmyself now. My race for lfe in 3 weeks on sunday, and after all of this, I really do wan to run all the way round. I have a silent competitive streak which is rearing its head!

I have just put together a plan for the next 3 weeks, based on the race for life training plan, combined with the bupa one (which I am pretty much finished bar 1 thing).

I am worried that I cant move from 2 continuous miles (and being pretty shattered and sweaty at th end) t 3 continuous miles in 3 weeks.

Also I have come to hate the 'walk' bit in the middle of the runas I find it hard to get back into running afterwards. I know that it increaseshow long you can keep going but it annoys me....

Is it possible?

mustrunmore · 21/06/2007 21:42

Popsycal, dont stress! You'll do really well; much better than I did, anyway I was reading all the stuff on another thread yesterday, and given all thats going on, I'm even more impressed with you You WILL run it all, if you set your mind to it. Please think of me; I know I can run 5km easily, but I just didnt. For no good reason. And was very peeved. And dh wasnt impressed either. Every step you take, its one more you've run and one less you've walked. Pot calling kettle, but thats the logic of it!

glitterfairy · 21/06/2007 21:51

popsy a race is different honestly! You will run it all and dont worry.

Mustrun probably lead legs because of speed slow down adn they wont hurt as much.

mustrunmore · 21/06/2007 21:54

My legs never hurt anymore(a sign I'm actually not working myself hard enough,I'd say...) I know what my plan is now... 1)Sort out my head 2)Focus a bit more on adding varied exercises to my life, not just runnnig 3) Do more outdoor runs while I can, bwfore dh gets back to lots of overtime.

popsycal · 21/06/2007 22:04

Mustrunmore - sounds like a good plan!

I am sure that I will be fine inthe run - but I have now (stupidly) set my heart on getting all the way round without walking (and if I am honest, I have a time in mind......). Argh. I am a Taurean through and through.

Lilliput · 21/06/2007 22:16

Popsycal, you sound like me, I'm a taurean too and have a silent inner competitive streak.
I think 3 weeks is plenty of time to be able to run the whole 5k. I was still run-walk-run at three weeks to go before my Race for life. I slowed right down and concentated on distance rather than time and suddenly it all clicked into place and I had run the full 5k three times before the race. Okay my time was lousey, 35 minutes but I am now gradually shaving that down and want to attempt a 10k race in September. It will be cool!

popsycal · 21/06/2007 22:28

It will be fine. I honestly hand't realised how silently competitive I am until recently but I really really am and had been all my life. Was chatting to one of my best mates about the race for life and running etc and he said 'you don't have to win you know', which, of course, i know! But the silent competitive bit is clearly more obvious to others than to me

glitterfairy · 22/06/2007 07:59

THe funny thing is that you run faster in a race anyway because you get carried along. Unless of course like me you are at the back on your own and jsut run along regardless.

popsycal · 22/06/2007 10:10

can anyone suggest why i find it so hard to get basck into running ater awalk section?

need to do 15 mins run, shirt walk and another 15 mins today. after having done 2 lots of 2 continuous miles on my last 2, i an dreaing this,,,,
it then goes to longer stretche with walks inbetween. i need to do it to build up my distance but i HATE the second running part and end up breaking it up with 30 second walks

glitterfairy · 22/06/2007 14:22

Why do you have to break it up? If you can run run.

I dont really know why but wonder if it is because the body gets used to a rythm and then another and doesnt want to get back into the first one.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 22/06/2007 15:47

Popsy - I think you're at the 'just run' stage now. Go out, run for as long as you can. Take it steady and I bet you surprise yourself. Just try to increase the time by a few minutes each week (not every run) - you'll be at 10k distance in no time.

OP posts:
popsycal · 22/06/2007 19:48

wooohooo
just had a fab run!
Been looking forward to it all day. Really hot here but by 6ish it had cold down and there was alittle breeze but still sunny.

And I have discovered running to music! OMG! Why have I not done that before! Found an ancient mp3 player of Dh's and just used whatever was on there. 'Twas great!

I did my 15 mins walk 3 run 15. And it was great. Easily got back into rhythm and felt as though I could keep on running at the end of the seocnd 15. I consciously kept the 'walk' section at a decent pace and the start of the second run section slower than normal to try to ease into it.

Also, I ate an hour before. Usually I go out around 4:30 befor eating - and I think that is what makes me feel sluggish. Felt fab!

I agree about the fact that I am ready to 'just run'. I am a bit of a 'if it's written down then I have to do it that way' freak. DH always laughs at how I have to follow things to the letter. And that is what the training plan says

Although I have adapted it a bit for the next few weeks

Off to work out how far I ran

TheDuchessOfNorks · 22/06/2007 19:49

I have had a good day.

I did run 2 miles this morning - in the rain, it was lovely. I went as slow as I could and I felt OK pretty much all the way. I still did fast finish though - I could probably have carried on but I had arrived back at the car so thought I'd call it a day.

Felt so good this afternoon that I did a fast mile before school pick-up. 7 minutes. I'm really pleased! My PB was 5.10 - but that was 25 years ago (I've checked the maths several times, it really is that bloody long ago ) so to be shaving a minute off the time every week is amazing. If I can get close to 6 minutes I'll weep with joy!

Popsycal - I also think you can scratch the walking part. Good luck!

popsycal · 22/06/2007 19:54

Wow - duchess - in awe of your mile time

Checked how far I went - 3.4 miles
