well done! funnily enough I found it harder running to a physical point - you can see how far it is!

my trainers only cost £22 btw, no tax on kids shoes

popsycal · 18/06/2007 20:32

You see, I much prefer seeing how far it is rather than looking at my watch and praying to be further than half way thorugh

Pidge · 18/06/2007 20:47

glitterfairy - please tell me your 8yo didn't really do two miles in 10 minutes? Put him down for the 2012 Olympics now!

StripeyKnickers - I would definitely go back - and try to see someone else. My shoes wore out very quickly at the back on the heel, and gave me a blister in the marathon, plus may have brought on my ongoing dodgy foot problems. I went back to the running shop a few days ago, and saw someone else who gave excellent advice and the new shoes seem great. Sadly no refund on the unsuccessful shoes as I'd done 200 miles in them!

No running for me today - but have been on my feet all day chasing after dd2 and my post marathon problem foot is a bit achey. So must behave myself and not do anything too crazy on the running front.

Still a day at work tomorrow to put my feet up!

Wallace · 18/06/2007 21:11

i think her dd is 8. I think her ds is older but 10 mins must have been a typo, surely!

mustrunmore · 18/06/2007 21:15

Pidge, remind me of your time in the marathon? I'm just nosey, and trying to do impossible comparisons..

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 18/06/2007 21:17

That's why I like running 'home' popsy. Just check the watch at the end. And if I'm struggling I just keep checking my milestones; one more canal bridge, one more set of locks, the traffic lights etc.

Welcome sar - can't help with baby joggers I'm afraid. Didn't have them when mine were little. There again I wasn't running then either lol.

DeviousDaffodil · 18/06/2007 21:25

How long should trainers last for? Just had to buy new onmes as old ones seem to have lost their 'spring'.
No advice on baby joggers I'm afraid.
Finished work late tonight so could not go for planned run. Will be getting up at 6am tomorrow to go tehn. Please all shout at me to get up in the morning! ( have spectre of 10k hanging over me)!

glitterfairy · 19/06/2007 07:24

Yep tis true and the result is on the internet for all to see. He is 11 and I am thinking he ought to join an athletics club tbh. He loves running and is very competitive.

He also does ballet to a very high level and won a scholarship last year to the Royal Academy. He is a natural athlete unlike his mum. People used to marvel at him hanging upside down from our doors at home by his feet which he used to do regularly in our last house.

popsycal · 19/06/2007 08:04

get him in a club - that is amazing

Pidge · 19/06/2007 12:27

Glitterfairy - get him in a running club quick!! Seriously though, lots of running clubs have events for kids - mine has kids runs after the adult 10ks over the summer - and he might really enjoy that kind of thing.

I am very impressed. My fastest ever mile was 6.18 and that was running all out for just a single mile, he must have rocket powered shoes.

Mustrunmore - my mara time was 4.33, which I was a bit disappointed with initially. Had been hoping for closer to 4 hours. But figure that it was my first go and it was flipping hot, plus to be honest I didn't train enough. Anyway, next target if only I can get my foot sorted out completely is to try to break my 10k (46.30) and half (1.48) times from last summer. No more marathons for me for quite some time, thank you very much!!!

MingMingtheWonderPet · 19/06/2007 12:31

Hello everyone, not posted for ages but have been lurking around and have been doing a bit of running, though nothing too serious. Need to sign up for a challenge, else I will just lapse into doing 5/6 miles twice a week and not really gettting much out of it.

glitter - your Ds is speedy!

DS1 comes running with me sometimes and has done a few fun runs where I have been doing a 10k. His best is 3km in 18mins, which isn't bad considering he was just 5 at the time.

Anyway, am off out tonight for a run as long as thunder and lightening doesn't hit here as forecast. A bit of rain is one thing, downpour is quite another!

speedymama · 19/06/2007 12:49

Hi, I also lurk but have not posted for a while.

On Saturday I ran 5 miles in 50 minutes. I was very happy with that because I wanted to do it in under 50 minutes so I just made it. I usually just run 2, 3 or 4 miles but I decided to extend myself this time. Next target 6 miles.

mustrunmore · 19/06/2007 13:41

Why am I still finding it so hard to convert all your comments into km?! Everything in my life, I do in imperial, apart from run

Pidge, thats a fantastic marathon time And your other pb times are much better than mine too ( that'd be 54 mins and 2hrs 5mins...) Although both of those, I felt like carrying on, so I should've pushed a bit harder! No chance of getting anywhere near those now, you know.

Pidge · 19/06/2007 14:05

mustrunmore - by comparison I was barely staggering at the end of my 10k and half marathon!!

mingming - hello again! Are you still netballing as well as running?

mustrunmore · 19/06/2007 14:11

Actually, I;ve thought of something else to pick your brain about. I seem to be developing a real mid-run lethargy on real outdoor runs, of any length. I know my muscles are fine, my breathing is fine, I'm not about to conk out etc etc, but for some reason the focus just goes, and I get so tempted to walk a bit, and then to just not restart running. Why on earth am I doing this? Even as I'm doing it, another bit of my brain sees that logically I dont need to. I've treid not setting any time or distances, so there is effectively no middle bit to the run, which works to an extent, but also then I dont have anything driving me! Am I just a looney now?

mckenzie · 19/06/2007 14:24

hiya Mustrunmore, I use my imagination when id o longer runs on my own. In my mind, I'm beating Paula Radcliffe at the FLM etc, or mayeb i'm in Club La Santa just about to finish last race which will mean I'm top ladies vet for teh 4 day challenge. Stuff like that which it totally unrealistic but I find I can get into the picture and run then without even realising I am running. I do it with swimming too as doing lengths if just SOOOOO boring!

Btw, Marathonmum is currently having baby No 4. Hope to be able to post sex and name later on.

mustrunmore · 19/06/2007 14:29

I used to imagine I was on the run home from work when I was on the treadmill I dont have much imagination , do I?

I saw your posting on the other thread about joggers, and wondered if marathonmum was being induced, or if you were just certain she'd be on time!

mckenzie · 19/06/2007 15:48

c section unfortunately, much as she wished it wasn't. I still haven't heard from her or her DH yet. Starting to get a tad concerned as she was booked to go down first thing.

glitterfairy · 19/06/2007 16:46

mustrun I went through as week or so of this and realised it was because I was going too fast and was wearing myself out midway through a 5 mile run or so. I slowed right down for a week or two adn it really worked now I am speeding up again and keeping going.

My eldest dd is also fast by the way doing two miles in 11 minutes so they could both join.

DeviousDaffodil · 19/06/2007 18:25

WHat supercharged children you boht have!
Future olympiads!

mustrunmore · 19/06/2007 20:39

Mckenzie, I'm sure she's fine. IME, you get told to go in at 8am or whatever, but then its just a waiting game till they can fit you into theatre! (as an aside, dh has his snip about a week ago, and they told him to go in for 1pm, the nwhen he arrived thay said he'd have to wait till last because hewas the only one having a local anasthetic, so it was 5pm before he went into theatre... all that time sitting in the waiting area in hisdressing gown ) Also, allow time for the whole 'I've had a baby' thing to sink in before you get any contact
So, if its a section, it might be a week before she's running again, instead of a day

glitterfairy, I did consider that reasoning. But I'm actually not tired.I do it even on a 2 or 3 km distance! Its very hard to pinpoint exactly what I mean, its like I just go into a bizarre daze

Wallace · 19/06/2007 22:30

wow glitterfairy, i am seriously impressed

My training plan said tonight i should run 12minutes, walk 2, then repeat. I stuck my watch in my pocket and just ran... I decided to listen to 4 tracks on my ipod before I checked the stopwatch. When I looked I had been running for 22 minutes, so I must have done at least 2 miles

I may have pushed it a bit much, my calves are a bit achey!

glitterfairy · 19/06/2007 23:17

Well done Wallace.

Mustrun perhaps a few days rest then? Otherwise I have no idea at all what is wrong. Sounds very annoying for you though you have all my sympathy.

Yes my two eldest are very athletic and my poor little one isnt but very bright. The problem is she wants to be the athlete and feels so left out at times. She beats me though often and I say she may not have found her sports talent yet.

popsycal · 20/06/2007 18:44

Had a good run. Just over 2 miles. Very hot though/ Bit of a damper on it when a silly teenager shouted at me just as I was finishing 'Oi look in a mirror you silly fat b*h'
Trying to let it go over my head but hmmmm

popsycal · 20/06/2007 18:52

anyway - did 2 mles in 18:40....

also - do you all listen to music when running/
wondering whether to borrow dh's mp3 playerrather than constnatly receiting 'the king's breakfast'
