wonder when aldi will be doing them again

Wallace · 14/06/2007 22:24

What is a Garmin?

I know what you mean popsycal, I started running on the 1st of May, so it hasn't really been that long!

My schedule for tonight was to run for 10/walk 2, then repeat. I put the stop watch in my pocket and sternly told myself that I wasn't going to look at it until I reached a certain point. When I got to that point I decided to carry on to the next big corner. When I looked at the watch I had been running for 12 minutes and I still felt good. Hooray

Wallace · 14/06/2007 22:25

Oh, and running clothes. I desperately need some before my 5k on 1st of July. No way can I wear my joggers that I bought to wear in the hospital after ds2 was born

lapsedrunner · 15/06/2007 07:23

Tchibo also do cheap running stuff a couple of times a year, keep an eye on www.tchibo.co.uk

mustrunmore · 15/06/2007 09:09

Well, I've decided to treat myself to a new gadget. I need some kind of pedometer (ds2 broke mine), but I'd like it to do all sorts of other things too. Any recommendations?

I love Tchibo, but I hate having to keep checking to see whats in. I know, bone idle.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 15/06/2007 09:54

Get an ipod nano with the little widget that you put in your shoe. Then you can download all your runs onto a computer, it measures your distance and speed. You can press a button on the nano and it tells you how far you've gone when you're out running.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 15/06/2007 09:56

I got some nice adidad cropped legging/trousers from laredoute the other week, used my 20% off offer. They're a bit flared at the bottom so quite flattering and they wick.

I ran 32mins non stop the other day . Too wet to go running today though

mustrunmore · 15/06/2007 09:59

Ooo, that sounds good. How much are they though? Also, lodger might be getting me a very basic ipod from the states next week, so I'll have to see if he does.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 15/06/2007 10:10

The nanos are about £89 from amazon and then its £20 for the widget, £10 for an armstrap.

mustrunmore · 15/06/2007 10:14

I dont that fits in the budget, but it sounds great. I tink I'll just have to keep hoping that he does get me the little ipod when he's away, and then convince dh to get me a new pedometer!

Wallace · 15/06/2007 11:29

wow i have a nano!! must look for widget!

glitterfairy · 15/06/2007 17:49

Do you mean the Nike one that fits in the shoe?

Does it fit in other shoes as well? I have an old ipod and so havetn bothered with it but if I could put it in another shoe not Nike then I might consider it. First of course I need some more running gear.

I may ened more shoes as they have just begun to hurt on the bottom of my big toe after being brill for ages.

lapsedrunner · 15/06/2007 19:45

SKSS - it's never to wet to run ...

BellaLasagne · 15/06/2007 19:53

Sorry I haven't read this entire thread...

but...

I'm doing my 1st RFL on 15th July. I'm not a natural runner so I've been following the RFL's suggested walk-run-walk plan and am going out for 25 mins 3 times per week at the moment.

I'm not unfit and I can do low impact stuff fairly well, The trouble with the running is that my shins hurt so much as I can only run on roads. The RFL itself is on grass so I'm not overly worried, but wondered if you experienced runners can offer any advice to a novice who's hurting!

Many thanks, BL x

popsycal · 15/06/2007 20:29

Woo hoo!!!

Had an fantastic run in the pouring rain. When I was getting ready, it was just drizzle, but by the time I got out is was p*ing it down!
The plan was to do 12 mins run, 2 mins walk then 12 mins run. So I set off on my 3 mile loop, wondering how far I would get by the end. When the second 12 mins was up, I wasn't far from the 3 mile point...so I kept going

3 miles in 28:31 mins with only a 2 minute walk between 12 and 14 mins!

I was very chuffed (and very wet!) but it was great. In the last little stretch, I was shattered but kept muttering under my breath: 'COme on...come on....'

I am sad!

Next question: what do you wear in the rain??

Also a very sad observation about my stopwatch obsession. I was putting petrol in the car today and was watching the money meter....14:00, 14:10 etc. It got to 14:59 and it took me a good 10 seconds to work out why on earth it didn't go from 14:59 straight to 15:00

Lilliput · 15/06/2007 20:35

Good for you popsycal, hopefully a run vented a little of the anger you have been feeling.
I had a great run in the rain on Wednesday, really refreshing, but I could have done with a lightweight waterproof. I'm too mean to buy one though.

Pidge · 15/06/2007 20:44

Hey popscal - good effort.

Personally I just run in normal running kit in the rain. Can't bear the thought of waterproofs - no matter how breathable they are I think I would just get sweaty.

I also surpassed myself - having forgotten my kit for my lunchtime run on Wednesday at work, I couldn't run yesterday, so I went out for half an hour at 7am this morning before dp went to work. You can't imagine how hard it was to part from my snuggly duvet and stick on my running togs!

BellaLasagne - welcome to the crew - not sure I have any top tips other than keep your runs short and give yourself plenty of rest days in between, make sure you have good cushioned shoes.

mustrunmore · 16/06/2007 08:14

popsycal, thats fantastic Well done you!

popsycal · 16/06/2007 09:06

hmm my training thing wants me to do a 2 miles continuous running......
oh my goodness
isn't that a huge jump?

DeviousDaffodil · 16/06/2007 10:49

Go for it popsy!
Should have got up and gone out this morning but couild not prise myself out of bed.
I WILL go this evening when DH gets home from work.
BTW what trainers do you all werea?
I am a fan of New balance as have wide feet, just curious to know what you prefer. { nosey emoticon}

glitterfairy · 16/06/2007 10:53

YOu have been doing really well though popsycal so I am sure if you have found following the training stuff ok it wont be as hard as you think. I am constantly amazed at what the body can do when we push it. I am still about very overweight but am doing more and more and think about what is possible when slimmer!

I have just been out with my trainer for a fitness test over 2.4 miles. 6 weeks ago I onyl ran 18 minutes of it in 35.5 minutes today I ran it all in 31.54 minutes so am very very pleased with myself.

I have looked at training plans as well with him but we are devising our own for the half marathon in October. I am starting to fit in a speed session, (fast two miles wiht my eldest who is really fast) a strength session (hill reps, I live in the fells) and a stamina session. Next weekend sees the first really long run of 11 - 12 miles! If I can walk after it I will be amazed and it seems a huge leap from 7 miles.

I didnt run as much this week (after my 10k last weekend in the heat) and have felt lower in mind than for a long time and am sure this is due to less running.

glitterfairy · 16/06/2007 10:55

DeviousDaffodil I wear Mizuno. Am thinking about buying another pair next week so I have two pairs.

popsycal · 16/06/2007 15:50

I am going to do a 15 min x2 broken with a 3 min walk tomorrow then the session after I will do my continuous 2 mile.

My shoes at Nike Lady Triax - good for bad 'roll-in-ers'

Lilliput · 16/06/2007 16:18

I had a crap run today because of my running partner. She has not run since we did Race for life 2 weeks ago plus she was a bit hungover so we had to stop and walk a good deal of it. I'm a bit pissed off because I was feeling pretty up for a long run.
Sometimes I am better with just me and my ipod.

DeviousDaffodil · 16/06/2007 16:39

I prefer to run alone. Tis chucking it down here and was looking forwad to geting out later. Might have to resort to the treadmill.
