glitterfairy - well done on your 10k - sounds like gruelling conditions.

I have been behaving ever so well - NOT running and nursing my post marathon foot!! But today I made it out for nearly 40 minutes - the foot ached a bit in the middle of the run, but then seemed to improve, and I haven't had any problems since. So, if all goes well, I'll run again on Wednesday and then gradually try to get back into regular running.

mustrunmore · 11/06/2007 08:30

I did a terrible RFL time yesterday But, on the plus side, its inspiring me to train harder in prep for the Womens 5km in September. I'd still like to get back to at least 10km level before I get old!

Pidge · 11/06/2007 14:04

mustrunmore - sometimes it's just not your day - and also sometimes I think it's harder to run the shorter distances than going in for a long slow plod! Here's to happier running over the summer.

My foot seems ok after yesterday's run, which is a massive relief. My new and non-running problem is that I cricked my neck big time. I just did it by sleeping funny, but I am in a permanent comedy stiff necked, can't look up or down more than a few degrees position. Another good excuse not to run!

mustrunmore · 11/06/2007 19:24

I've seen some runners whose stance looks like a permanently cricked neck Seriously, thanks Pidge. I'm on a real downer at the moment, really because I never expected it to be sooo hard to regain any level of fitness after having the boys, even now I'm finding a bit if time to do it. You know when you just need to get over that first hurdle of unfitness, so you've at least got a base to build on?

Anyone heard from Marathonmum? Has she had the baby yet?

2boysmacca · 11/06/2007 21:30

But you're out there doing something MRM. You really are so hard on yourself!

SachaF · 12/06/2007 16:17

Good to read that someone is running, even if it's not me! Been really busy all weekend which (I'm hoping) must have SOME training effect [fingers crossed].
Got a Garmin for my bday last week - have done 1 walk with it in 6 days! Oh well.
At least I am entered in a race tomorrow night and my mum is babysitting - she'll kick me out so she can spend time alone with her gs!

Pidge · 12/06/2007 21:03

mustrunmore at the cricked necks, but do they run round going 'ouch, ouch, eek'?! I was particularly comical on my bike to work today - had to stop at each junction and slowly slide my head from side to side to check for cars before pedalling onwards.

Anyway, neck seems a bit better, so hoping to do my first lunchtime run at work since before the FLM tomorrow.

SachaF - very jealous of the Garmin - I keep dropping hints!!

mustrunmore · 13/06/2007 08:10

I'm seriously impressed with anyone who can fit in a lunchtime run. I cant even do one when ds1 is at nursery!A friend offered to look after ds2 for me while I did one, but by the time I'd dropped him off and picked him up, I'd get about 20 secs run before needing to get back up to nursery, and then it'd be sweaty in my kit!

Did a park run the night before last, and I was appalling. I really dont know what's wrong with me. Was going to do an hour last night, but argued with dh instead

popsycal · 13/06/2007 13:32

Well my information about the 10K just arrived...and now I am getting cold feet!!!

I need to run tonight - as I havent in days.....but the weather is dreadful

Pidge · 13/06/2007 13:36

popsycal - there's loads of time - you can do it. Get yourself out there in the rain and after 5 minutes you will feel so virtuous!!!

Although I can hardly talk - I forgot my running kit today, so no lunchtime outing for me. Might be a good thing to give my wonky neck another day to recover though.

popsycal · 13/06/2007 18:05

Feeling a bit more positive....ran 24 mins and had a one minute walk after 12 mins. Deliberatley took at different so that I didn't get caught up in the whole distance thing.

I find kind of 'stuck'though. I am pleased that I have got this far, but if I up the first interval too much, I can;'t do the second running part without a short walk. Really want to run the whole 5K on 15th July.

popsycal · 13/06/2007 18:16

ooh i feel a bit better now
mapmyrun just told me that it was 2.75 miles

BeatrootandBenedick · 13/06/2007 18:18

i have my relay on Saturday at Arundal. a three hour drive away. Will have to leave at 6!!

Really looking forward to it now

popsycal · 13/06/2007 18:20

let us know how you do beetroot!

I feel like a light weight runner compared to everyone else. However, then I remember that less than 2 months ago, I had not run a step

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 13/06/2007 19:01

Popsy - try extending the second half rather than the first. Run a shorter first bit, say 8 mins, add in your walk and run the rest of the way. You'll manage it especially if you're running home.

Also if you can get someone to drop you 3 miles from home, the mental boost that each step is taking you home makes the tough bits easier. I find 'out and back' runs can be a struggle sometimes.

popsycal · 13/06/2007 20:26

Thanks saggarmaker! That is really good advice. I am stuck between running plans (almost completed the 5k race for life one - run a bit walk a bit - and have done much of the bupa 5k one too....) but the next jumps are just a bit too big.

Right. Will find a 3 mile run which finishes at home and then get dh and boys to drop me off

I have done 3 miles + before with a walkning.running combination. On the plus side, I did an almost 3 mile run (2.75) with only a 2 min walk in the middle!

I will shorten the first 'leg' and then walk and go for it as you suggested

DeviousDaffodil · 13/06/2007 20:29

HAve entered a 10k on 24/06.
Got up at 6am to do 3 miles before work. It was a lovley morning and was a good way of getting training in as find by the evening am usually knackerd!
Keep up th good work ladies!

Lilliput · 13/06/2007 20:36

What do you guys wear when you run? Any recommendations for online shops for running gear, local sports shop is a bit shit.

glitterfairy · 14/06/2007 07:36

I just cobble stuff together and usually it is not sports stuff as such but stuff from online shopping such s next. I am going to review this for the winter though and visit a local running shop as I have at last got a running partner but she is a fell runner so need proper gear.

mustrunmore · 14/06/2007 08:14

I have proper running stuff from the waist down, but any old top; I've always been like that, not sure why Have to wear really long tops at the moment, as my belly is still so big that they ride up Mind you, today I'm in apir of pre ds1 jeans They are alot tighter, and the belly hangs over, but I'm in them!

Bizarre last night; got all fired up for a run; slow with a bit hilly. But had to stop at 4km; I think I've caught a bit of ds1's dodgy tummy Felt so desperate as I ran, but then couldnt actually go when I'd stopped (and its def not just runners tummy; not doing enough for that to kick in). I was so frustrated, because I reckon I could've done a good long one. So watched The Apprentice instead. Not so good for my fitness levels!

I looked at all the venues for the Cancer Research 10km, and I cant get to any, even if I wanted to. There's one not a million miles away, but it'd take about a year to get there, including running the last few miles from a bus stop Or a huge cab bill!

Popsycal, you're an inspiration I'm finding it so hard to get back to even a base level of fitness, yet everyone else seems to do able to.

BeatrootandBenedick · 14/06/2007 09:55

gore running stuff is good.

go to yo local running shop.

I will get some prpper winter stuff form mine.

Gliter - I have a running partner and it realy helps.
did you call my mate btw?

DeviousDaffodil · 14/06/2007 10:03

I have bought quite a bit from Aldis (!) really good value tops and scoks. also buy from www. sweatshop.co.uk
they are reasonable. At teh moment weraing Ron Hill cycling shorts and aldi running tops - very comfy as 'wick' away teh sweat.
Wear a cap as well to stop hair and sun getting in my eyes - also so I don't get recognised

glitterfairy · 14/06/2007 17:51

Yes Beets I did and went along as well to the gym.

My running shop is nearby so will pop along when I have more money.

glitterfairy · 14/06/2007 17:51

Thanks Daffodil does the wicking thing work then?

DeviousDaffodil · 14/06/2007 20:31

I think so- I sweat a lot and it keeps takes the sweat away from the skin.
