gf - if you're saying what I think you're saying - it's very common (look at runners world chat boards) - immodium seems to be the favoured approach.

glitterfairy · 03/06/2007 21:00

Thanks I may do that before the 10k then as dont want to be in a problem situation. In the middle of the country it is not too much of a problem and I have changed my diet a bit this week. I am trying to be gluten free and only eat goats milk cheese and yogurt but it still seems to be a problem especailly on longer runs!

Wallace · 03/06/2007 21:08

Did my mile challenge today - 12 minutes That is a combination of running and walking. The two miles was 26 mins in total (increasing the walking/decreasing running) I know this is slow but I think I am running at a good pace which i could sustain for long periods once I get my stamina up. My knee has stopped hurting! Dh bought me a knee support and I also had a week off running due to a rotten cold, so maybe it was just an injury [fingers crossed]

Ran in the rain the other night and loved it

Pidge · 04/06/2007 21:25

Hulloo all - great running going on here.

Still no running for me - too boring for words post marathon foot injury still lingering. Though to be honest in the last week I've just been too busy enjoying a long weekend away and consuming too much wine and fine food!

Can't believe I've had to have 6 weeks off. I have been eating like I'm still in marathon training and am turning into a round person, rather than a bony running machine!!! Might run tomorrow .... !?

popsycal · 05/06/2007 20:23

Been away for 5 days and done some fab running around northumberland in gorgeous sunshine

ALso did my first timed continuous mile in 8:57 1 min of it was downhill but don't tell anyone. Did the 2 mile course in 19:57 which I was pleased with - at the end of April, I hadn't run before EVER

Now I need to look at the training plans again and see where I go next

The knees are great

popsycal · 05/06/2007 20:38

weird dies this work - just clicked on existing thread and looks like a new one when i try to post.....testing,....

hatwoman · 05/06/2007 21:22

pidge - I've had about 10 weeks off I've been out about 3 or 4 times since Kingston. I'm thinking I need to sign up for something or I'm never going to get myself out!

Pidge · 05/06/2007 21:37

hatwoman - hurrah! You made me feel much better!!

I'm signed up for a 5 miler in early July, then half marathon in September. So that should get me going.

Did a cautious 20 minute run this evening and so far no foot problems.

popsycal - you are a RUNNER!! Well done!

hatwoman · 05/06/2007 21:48

which half are you doing?

Wallace · 06/06/2007 07:24

hatwoman - are you asking Pidge which half marathon she is doing, or which half of a marathon?

popsycal - well done Take a look at the bupa training plans I'm doing here

BeatrootandBenedick · 06/06/2007 07:26

hello hello - back again afgter a week off i Greece - tried to run but it was too hot.

have this marathon relay on saturday 16th so need to get going

Lilliput · 06/06/2007 07:31

Well, I did my Race for Life on Sunday in Edinburgh. The course did have a horrible hill quite near the beginning, I felt really faint when I got to the top but I was determined not to stop. It was a really muggy day which didn't help. Anyway, my time was 35 mins and I raised £200.
Seeing this thread at the top of active convos is a sign I need to get out this morning!

popsycal · 06/06/2007 07:44

Excellent lilliput.
I am dreading hills!

Walllace - I am doing a combnation of the bupa one and the race for life one.....thinking of moving to the race for life 'run easy' one which is the one where you want to run all the way round and go in at week 2 (as I have covered week 1 within the other one). BUt I am a little scared as that means in my next run after today, I have to run 25 mins continuously .

I must admit, I am really enjoying this running lark and never ever thought that I would!

glitterfairy · 06/06/2007 07:47

Beets what is a marathon relay?

Am doing my 10k on Sunday and the kis are doing two miles each. AM off out today for a 5miler and then only a 2 mile before the race and a rest.

BeatrootandBenedick · 06/06/2007 08:05

4 of us are running a marathon in stages. I am doing 10k of it.

Pidge · 06/06/2007 08:53

Lilliput - fantastic - well done you.

hatwoman - I'm doing Windsor - I did it last year and it was a rather hilly, and very hot, but I'm hoping I might be able to beat my time, as last year was my first (and only) half marathon.

popsycal · 06/06/2007 11:32

I am debating whether or not to enter this 10k in early sept.....not sure I can get to the stage where it is possible.....

Can run 10 mins continuous at the minute and have done 3 miles with a combination of walking and running. Can do measured mile in just under 9 mins.......hmmmmm

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 06/06/2007 12:00

Popsy - do it.

Once you get to the running 3 miles continuously stage the rest will follow fairly easily. Most runners say that the first 10 or 15 minutes are the worst. You are still in that bit and and once you get past it and are in a rhythm you start to actually enjoy it. I hate doing 3 miles because for the majority of it I'm cursing every step - I hit about 25 minutes and then feel fine!

You mile time is great BTW Faster than mine anyway.

glitterfairy · 06/06/2007 12:02

Popsycal entering races has kept me to running and stopped me flagging and giving up. 9 mins is wonderful time.

I have just run 5 miles in one hour and did actually run non stop for 55 minutes after my five minute walking warm up. I am really pleased with myself and feel ready for my 10k on Sunday and didnt have any tummy problems today so fingers crossed! I am reading the runners world book at the moment and it has really helped with tips about the tortoise winning the race and made me feel much better about how slow I am.

Gizmo · 06/06/2007 12:06

Folks.

Have problem - help?

Serious case of demotivation here. I've not done a step since FLM, despite having new shoes Bad cold and sleep deprived for last two nights, which doesn't help, but it's deeper than that - I just feel a bit...bored... with it.

So what I need is a list of Good Reasons to Run and Ways to Revive my Running Love Life.

Any ideas?

Gizmo · 06/06/2007 13:10

Scary thought, isn't it?

Bored with running? How can life go on?

popsycal · 06/06/2007 17:32

I really am getting into this!
Just done 3 lots of 10 mins running with 2 lots of 3 mins walk in between (you with me?1?!!)
almost 3.5 miles. Last 10 mins hurt a bit lol
3 mile mark was just over 30 mins

hmmm think maybe I should just start a blog rather than reporting back after every single run!

Thanks for the advice about the 10K
I am going to give it a few more weeks by which time I ought to be closer to 3 miles of continuous running and then enter I think. Will do it a few weeks before race for life as I have a feeling there will be lots of people wanitng to enter following the run.

Pidge · 06/06/2007 18:31

gizmo - you have my sympathies - admittedly I partly ground to a halt due to my foot problem, but now I feel like I've lost all that marathon fitness and am back to square one and finding it really hard to get out the door. What about putting yourself down for a 10k or something? Or promising yourself a really large chocolate bar if you get out there for 30 minutes!

popsycal - get yourself down for that 10k, there's loads of time to prepare and signing up for it will make you get out there and run.

Wallace · 06/06/2007 20:15

popsycal - you can do it! Don't forget my goal is a half narathon in October and you are way ahead of me

popsycal · 06/06/2007 20:17

am going to enter now
