Woohoo popsy!! Really pleased for you - you'll be well on the way to training for that 10k.

popsycal · 22/05/2007 17:20

have decided that i want to get closer to doing thwe 5k in july before i enter the september 10k one to be sure that i can do it...
or do i just enter anyway in case there are no places left....

2boysmacca · 22/05/2007 18:34

I did 3.2k today in 20 mins, I was crap and have hit a bit of a barrier again. Did 4.5miles last week in 40 mins and felt great so why was today on the treadmill such a struggle?

MaryHinge · 22/05/2007 19:43

Can you enter the Cancer research 10ks yet? The stately home ones don't usually open 'til later in the summer.

popsycal · 22/05/2007 19:46

can enter now

MaryHinge · 22/05/2007 19:51

Ah yes popsy - I've found them. Which one are you thinking of? I like the look of Tatton Park 'cos it's flat. The other two near me have a 'steep' hill.

popsycal · 22/05/2007 19:53

alnwick castle one for me

popsycal · 22/05/2007 20:27

how can you find out wat the route is....have a feeling alnwick will be hilly...

MaryHinge · 22/05/2007 20:30

If you click on the venue it gives a description of the route/parking/facilities etc.

themoon66 · 22/05/2007 20:36

Hurray... I have, this very day, managed to run a distance of 10k. I havent managed this for over a year due to various injuries.

It was a very crap time though (61 mins)

Now I just need to get back enough confidence to enter a nice flat 10k race.

glitterfairy · 22/05/2007 20:40

OK the moon go easy you are not that crap as its better than my time.

My knees dont hurt half as much any more either and think it is partly weight loss and partly usage and muscle build up.

popsycal · 22/05/2007 20:51

alnwick castle@

The course

Starting and finishing in beautiful riverside pastures at the foot of the castle walls, the course gives runners access to private areas of Hulne Park. A generally flat course, running mainly on gravel with a 1km stretch of hill at the halfway point.

So i am going to enter
will be up there next wekeend anyway - so will have a good look

themoon66 · 22/05/2007 20:52

I used to suffer with knee pain (tendonitis) if I tried to up the milage to beyond 8 or 9 miles. But I found a wonderful physio who taught me how to cure this pain.

glitterfairy · 22/05/2007 21:00

What was the secret themoon66?

kiwibella · 22/05/2007 21:13

I am glad that I stumbled on this thread - I have been meaning to get back running since my lo was born . I got the all clear at 6 weeks and she is coming up for three months. I am signed up for the 5k Race for Life at Blackheath in July with a great bunch of friends and very much looking forward to that.

mustrunmore · 22/05/2007 21:37

3 months is good going! Its taken me 3 years to get my act together But to be fair, it is ruining my marriage, as dh has to have the kids so much more now, and then there's no time left for him

Well, ankle feeling a bit better today, but just willied around on the treadmill, playing: bit of interval, bit of hills, then a fast last 1km (fast for me anyway, 5 mins 10)

You know the one way I can tell I'm nowhere near back to being a runner or even a jogger? I'm finding it really hard to compare myself to you lot as its half in miles and half in km, and I cant just instantly convert anymore.

2boysmacca · 22/05/2007 21:38

You really are too hard on yourself MRM!

popsycal · 22/05/2007 21:47

i am such an amateur mrm - only been running for abotu 4 weeks lol

mustrunmore · 22/05/2007 21:55

Macca, if I was being hard on myself, I'd be back up to a half decent level by now, and happy with myself!

2boysmacca · 22/05/2007 21:56

Get back to the post natal thread and stop damming yourself

mckenzie · 22/05/2007 22:08

mustrunmore - have you ever thoguht about doing the Trent Park handicap once a month? It's run by Trent Park running club, just 5 km on the last saturday of the month and as the name suggests , it's run as a handicap so everyone has a different start time so that it's the most improved runner that wins, not just the fastest.
It's really well organised and the course is great.

mustrunmore · 23/05/2007 08:47

That sounds good, but I'm no way confident enough yet to be seen by anyone I might know, or virtually know Also, if its only once a month, and that falls on weekends dh is working, it might be 2 or 3 months between times I could do it!

Lilliput · 23/05/2007 09:39

Has anyone done a race for life in edinburgh around holdrood park? I am doing it on 3rd june and was wondering how much of it is up hill?

mckenzie · 23/05/2007 09:41

that's not a good enough excuse i'm afraid Mustrunmore . It doesn't matter if you dont do it every month. The idea is to use it just for yourself to guage how your running is going, to use it as a benchmark if you like.

SachaF · 23/05/2007 10:04

Hi, Been absent for a while
Still been running occassionally though - just started training for a walking marathon so doing distance walking and occassionally fitting a run in instead of a walk (ds not yet old enough for me to run with in buggy).
Mum's babysitting tonight and I have a 10k trail race - just got new shoes at weekend so will be trying them out in race (oops).
Fairy Flip Flop - any chance you can take your trainers to work and schedule a 'meeting' (aka run) during the week that you HAVE to attend - no childcare worries as that is already taken care of whilst at work. The other way is to go out after 13 month's bed time - but I find that HARD. (Also depends on dh getting home from work soon after ds's bedtime).
Kiwibella, it's good to have a goal. Don't forget your feet have probably got bigger since bb (before baby) so get yourself fitted for some new trainers - 2 weeks ago I had 3 blisters and several stubbed toes! hence the new trail shoes tonight! (also had to have heel lifts fitted - body not quite straight yet!)
