Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

I have and my chest rattles when I breathe. Been like this since Tuesday. No energy but at least sore throat has eased. It was the uncontrolled shivering that really kept me awake and made me realise I was in for a rotten time. Just taking paracetamol, cups of tea and soup

Total sympathy to all who have it. I've literally been in tears today as I just want my life back. Can't remember feeling so ill for so long..its just the rotten gift that keeps on giving. I'm a SP with no family and I'm worried to bits over who's going to look after my DC if I end up in hospital with it.

I’ve finally gone 24 hours without a fever so fingers crossed I’m turning the corner.

Went to bed last Sunday night and still here nearly a week later. So weak every time I get up.

I'm back on here as I think I've relapsed, finished my antibiotics Thursday. Felt fine yesterday, most I did was walk to the chemist for prescriptions. Today felt fine again, did the food shop, went Harvey's to pick my sofas. Then went dizzy. My head feels like it's going to explode. Chest feels heavy and itchy inside, which is the only way I can explain it. Chills again. And this bastard cough is back.

Yup I dont think I have ever been this ill before. Cant physically get out of bed as my legs ache so much. Have lost 4lbs in 2 days as cant eat, have slept about 20hrs per day at least. Only on day 2 and dread how long this will go on. It is horrific

Poor, poor us!

I haven't had it as bad as some of you but it has dragged on since before Christmas. Latest is the ulcers and weeping sores around my mouth - doc has diagnosed impetigo but I don't think it is, I think it's this work of Satan virus.

The covonia spray transformed my sore throat last night to the point I went out today. Sore throat back (though 'sore' is hardly adequate to describe it) so it's back on the spray from heaven.

Covonia...? I'm going to check that out tomorrow.

I'm not on any painkillers at present but it would be like a gift from the gods to stop the tickly awful dry cough and sore throat

For the hideous cough try Robitussin. DP got me this today as pharmacist recommended and it works! I was able to function for several hours without trying to cough up my lungs.

I spent all day Saturday feeling as though I'd turned a corner. Temperature down a fair bit, cough not too bad, a little bit of my appetite returning. Then it all went to crap again in the evening. It's not like I overdid it or anything. Temp back up, terrible nausea, awful undulating ringing in my ears. Bloody hell. I kept dreaming about being on a boat and in one of the dreams I was trying to carry bowls of soup to everyone on board! Sleep was so broken and unsatisfying. I'm not back to square one, but definitely back a few steps.

I've definitely turned a corner but nowhere near 100%
The sore throat has mostly gone but I've got a bunged up head and awful sinus pain/catarrh.

I had great intentions today of stripping my sick bed with help of DH and was intending going in the shower, maybe having a short walk out and aiming to get back to some normality and work by the middle of the week.
Stripped the bed, went downstairs started coughing hard, weeing myself, my mucus looked clear then strands of grey green appearing. Feel so shitty, bad head/light headed I can see me being off another week.

Day 4 for me, bad cough now. Thanks for the tips about the throat stuff Still can't eat. Making myself drink, trying to keep a track of the painkillers I take.
My back was hurting last night!

For the bunged up nasal drip, try antihistamines. Found that work for some strange reason.

My back aches so badly too. Just had an epsom salt bath but that didnt help. Am supposed to be flying to Norway for a conference tomorrow- great work opportunity but dont think it would be wise given I cant get out of bed. Arghhhhhh. Petrified incase the DC get this from me

Emailed work today cancelling meetings. Feel so guilty but I feel so ill.

Hate the thought too that my Ds may catch it, he has just started his first real job. Thinking of those with little ill dc's

I know @hoochymama1 - the timing sucks. It is such a good opportunity for me. Arghhhhh but my partner also goes away on hols next week and my priority is to be fit and well to look after the kids. It is only an hours flight but will probably put me back to square one. Plus more importantly would contaminate the plane! Would not wish this on anyone

Springydaffs yes absolutely. I swear to God this is some evil bastard monster virus. I definitely feel better today but no appetite (not necessarily a problem......) and still rather wobbly. Have barely got off the sofa since Wednesday lunchtime.

Yes! Started Thursday and slightly better today, but not really. When will it go?!

Mine is evil throat, aching legs like I've just run a marathon not that I'd know, shivering or sweating and feeling exhausted. Joy.

I think when it's over we need a badge to prove we are survivors of the Worst Bug In The World. People ought to genuflect imo. Or at least show some serious awe.

Day 8 here and still coughing up green stuff but I do I feel a bit better this afternoon.
Still have no appetite and struggling to drink much though.

Going to attempt to go to work tomorrow.
