Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

Rhubarb I think it varies for everyone, for me it was sore eyes, then splitting headache, sneezing coughing, sore throat, finally now I'm left with a very sore throat and cannot speak properly.

I had to block my mother temporarily today because she's just not listening when I tell her not to phone me as it hurts to talk and I can't speak properly yet anyway

MyGuideJools · 19/01/2018 10:28

mine started with sore throat and earache then the aching, runny nose and really painful head and eyes.
Day 5 today, nose is clear but still have headache and painful eyes. I am so so tired. living on toast and marmalade Brew to us all

BulletFox · 19/01/2018 10:32

Day 9 and I'm going to tentatively say that I think I might be getting a bit better. I have had this feeling on other days, only for things to turn to crap in some new and interesting way. But this has been a bit more sustained. I'm still not eating much and have very little energy but I feel as though there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks to everyone still in the throes of this.

BulletFox · 19/01/2018 16:10

It doesn't hurt me to talk now but my voice is still fucked.

I went to a cafe for lunch and when I tried to squeak out my order they said 'that's ok, take your time, take your time' like they were coaxing me on a new skill.

Then on the way back I wanted a recovery celebratory cigarette and went to the newsagents and was trying to squeak out what I wanted & the guy said 'voice still gone? What would you like?' I felt really embarassed to mumble (squeak) cigarettes

MyGuideJools · 19/01/2018 17:12

I had the same problem bullet when phoning work. I think they thought it was a hoax call, then she said 'oh it's you, you sound like a man!' Grin

BulletFox · 19/01/2018 17:23

:) Jools

And it's so much effort to try to say

Mozartinmyfanjo · 19/01/2018 18:20

Clinky, there is a hope then? I thought l was turning a corner yesterday evening but no, woke up feeling absolutely shit. The fever of 38.5+ is back, cough still here. New stuff: nose bleeding since Wednesday night, every time l blow it it’s full of bright red blood and nausea started today. Argh, don’t know what to do anymore 😩

ClinkyMonkey · 19/01/2018 20:25

Shouldn't have counted my chickens Mozart. Back to the raging temp late afternoon and now feeling like death can't come too soon. I HATE this. Seems to follow a particular pattern, doesn't it?

Mozartinmyfanjo · 19/01/2018 20:48

Oh no Clinky! Sad l felt close to death this afternoon. Slightly better now, thanks to meds and one hour nap. Both DP and DS seem to be coming down with something too, hoping it’s not what we all on this thread are having, l don’t think I can cope.

Leanin15yearsmaybe · 19/01/2018 21:42

Tiz my mother’s birthday tomorrow. She whatapp’ed my to inform me I will be joining (paying) her for afternoon tea and a big family meal in the evening. Does she not know that a) I haven’t put makeup on in nearly 2 weeks/bathing has been minimal b) being off work = sick leave = no shift enhancements = basic pay c) I just want to continue my curl up a die routine Hmm

Leyani · 19/01/2018 21:59

7 week’s it lasted. A whole 7 weeks. All of advent, all of Christmas, new year and into the first week of January. Complete write off, in bed by 9pm most nights, exhausted, sore, coughing my lungs our, muscles painful from coughing, it’s one of the nastiest, longest f*ers of a nuisance virus I’ve had

Angie169 · 19/01/2018 22:14

try Dequacaine Lozenges, they have worked for me over this past week or so .
And as a bonus are quite good if you get tooth ache ( put lozenge between tooth and cheek ) but don't use for more that a day as can cause ulcers .

keepmoving · 19/01/2018 22:32

Leyani - 7 weeks??? ShockConfused

I felt a little better this morning, had a shower, washed my hair, did some work (sitting on the sofa) and managed a trip to the supermarket to get tissues, ibuprofen etc - felt not too bad despite a streaming nose, cough etc then about 5pm bang, fever back, feel like I've been run over by a bus.

Day 9. Enough!!!!!

MissMurielStacy · 20/01/2018 00:21

I've got some kind of virus; don't think it's the flu but the roof of my mouth, back of nose and throat are all killing me. Painkillers not doing much. I've got a dry cough as well. My chest has started hurting today and I'm either hot and sweaty or freezing cold. Ears are feeling bubbly.
DH has had it, much worse than me obvs.

Bowerbird5 · 20/01/2018 02:37

Leyani

Me too started around first week of December.

I have just found this thread. Isn't it awful. I started with the viral part before Christmas. Felt pretty wretched but luckily I was able to eat my Christmas dinner because Christmas Eve I was so nauseous. My son came over on Eve and took everything to his house and cooked it. First time ever.bless him. I just had to turn up.
Like people are saying it comes in waves and keeps changing. Someone mention asthmatics. Ye, yes, yes. This is my problem now. I had to leave work first day back and then tried again the following week and had to go home at lunchtime. I was wheezing so much boss sent me home. I doubled my meds that week and no better so spoke to asthma nurse because I wasn't well enough to drive to surgery. She said it is absolutely flooring her patients. She quadrupled my meds and I had a day of steroids. No better. Saw GP Tuesday and now of steroids for a week and pulse racing so been back yesterday and had ecg and bloods this morning. I was hoping to go back this week but GP said no way on Tuesday. Considered Monday but I feel absolutely awful today went to sleep after getting back today and in bed before nine.
Tuesday I felt exhausted just having a shower, Thursday same.please be careful asthmatics. It is awful and I should have gone sooner though I did see GP in December because coughed so much I have suspected hernia( scan soon) and he was surprised I am still so bad. Headaches are awful and seem to come on quickly. I can't string a sentence together sometimes.
Glad I have found this thread as I haven't really seen anyone who has had it more than a week. Haven't seen many people though.

To anyone with it I do hope you feel better soon.

BhajiAllTheWay · 20/01/2018 06:36

I'll join you all. I've had what appeared to be a heavy cold since week before Xmas. Seemed to be going but then..terrible chest, fever, aches.Been on 2 rounds of antibiotics and done all the right things. Woken up today with banging head and no voice. I just want to cry. I feel like I'm never going to get better.

ClinkyMonkey · 20/01/2018 09:56

7 WEEKS Leyani and Bower! You poor, poor things. That must be absolutely life sapping. I'm only on day 10 and feel as though I've been living in a very dark hole for a very long time. I really hope you feel better soon.

ClinkyMonkey · 20/01/2018 09:58

And best wishes to Bhahji as well. You've been suffering a long time.

ClinkyMonkey · 20/01/2018 10:00

Sorry Bhaji, spelling has gone to pot now!

sluj · 20/01/2018 10:09

Thank you for this thread. Its making me much more sympathetic towards DH who is only on day 2. He definitely has something horrible but has tended to exaggerate his symptoms in the past. 😉 Hope he doesn't have this one.

Hope you all feel better soon

SophieJo · 20/01/2018 12:43

I started with a headache then had the shivers all night. Feel very wobbly and aching. The cough is horrendous and am hurting from it. Sore throat has disappeared. Just wondering what people take for the cough.

BulletFox · 20/01/2018 12:54

Have you got a dry cough, SophieJo?

Mine seems pointless as it's not clearing anything, it just makes it sorer.

I'm on painkillers so can't take a lot of the cough meds from the pharmacist, I've been having some chalky throat tablets with aspirin and antibiotics.

Check with your local pharmacist
