Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

Every day brings a lovely new symptom. Yesterday it was the headache from hell - in fact just got rid of that a couple of hours ago. I couldn't lift my head without crying out in pain (pathetic). Now I'm barking like a dog and hacking up alien green mucous. This is so so shit.

Hope everyone starts feeling better soon Thanks

BestIsWest · 18/01/2018 11:39

I must have sweated litres of fluid out last night. Woke up feeling clear headed and a bit better so headed into work. Big mistake. My boss who turned up (looking pasty and grey) took one look and sent me home - he’s gone home himself and our senior manager didn’t make it in either.

So I am home now with the option to do some work from home if I feel up to it but otherwise stay home until next week.

LEMtheoriginal · 18/01/2018 12:14

Day 11 here and a scheduled day off. Managing some study I starting to feel Hunan. Now have a lovely gastric upset and AF returned with a vengeance. I did hear from my regional manager that I would be getting sick pay so that is a huge relief as I've some pretty big expenses looming. Little things - hang on guys this can't go on much more - can It??

Managed to clean my teeth for the first time in 3 days go me. Wiped me out so much had to go straight back to bed. Managed a very quick shower later. On top of everything else I had 2 visual migraines back to back. What an utter box of delights this virus is.

MyGuideJools · 18/01/2018 13:51

LEM 11 days!😣😰you poor thing. I'm glad you are feeling a bit more human at least.
Day 4 for me, I've managed a shower just now and had some instant porridge.
My throat is no longer sore but my head is thumping like a hammer. My nose is totally blocked and my ears hurtSad
I've told work I won't be in tomorrow, apparently there's a few off with the same thing.
Flowers to everyone feeling shite

BulletFox · 18/01/2018 14:34

Don't you find it's such a huge effort to go out and pretend to look 'normal'?

I need to go out shortly and my heart is sinking at being presentable. I saw someone yesterday and he said 'you look like shit', I was thinking yes I know that

BellMcEnd · 18/01/2018 14:41

Yes this bug really is a Big Fat Bastard isn’t it? I had a rotten cold all last week then totally back to normal on Tuesday: loads of energy, appetite back, everything. On Wednesday it all returned and i can’t get my temp below 38 or swallow my own saliva. I’m nauseous as well and my neck is still really swollen. Waaaaaahhhh........

35goingon90 · 18/01/2018 14:55

I felt almost normal last night after a shower! Then woke up this morning shivering, full of snot and feeling like I'm going right back downhill and need to be in bed. Day 9 of the evil zombie virus of doom.

I have a friend who has just emerged from bed on day 15. Urgh!

Get well soon one and all.

roundthehorn · 18/01/2018 15:01

Yikes. I've just picked my 19 yr old off a 14 hour flight from visiting her dad in the UK and she is sick as sick can be. I actually can't believe she was allowed to travel. She is running a 39 degree fever, has a back breaking cough and a voice you can hardly hear. She says she has seen a doctor who told her not to take "cold and flu" tablets as she has been vomiting and these will make her worse. Should I be on to our dr's surgery first thing?

BulletFox · 18/01/2018 15:05

Oh you're not in the UK - do you have a telephone health service there you can call now for advice?

Poor DD!

Roomba · 18/01/2018 15:05

I'm worried about DS2. He's 5, seemed in perfect health yesterday morning, not even a cold. He was at his Dad's last night and woke my ex struggling to breathe in his sleep (they use baby monitor as his little sister shares a room with him). Ex said it sounded horrendous so took him to the GP. He diagnosed a chest infection and prescribed antibiotics.

Can a chest infection just appear from nowhere with no cough or cold or anything first? His chest sounds very crackly apparently? Poor kid, am worried he's actually got flu but surely he'd have some other symptoms?

keepmoving · 18/01/2018 15:18

ClinkyMoney you are right every day a new symptom. It's a steaming nose for me today but it's got to be better than all the other symptoms I've already had.

Someone up thread said it made them feel better that they weren't the only one suffering this evil lurgy, I totally agree. Looking forward to hearing of those that have actually recovered. DM keeps telling me how ill some people have been with it and how it lasts for 17 years (ok slight exaggeration but for several weeks). I can't be ill for that long please!!!

ClinkyMonkey · 18/01/2018 17:05

I think I may just have had this for 17 years keepmovingGrin. Certainly feels like it. Have just spent all day feeling nauseous and desperate to throw up just to get rid of the feeling, but not being able to. It's like being pregnant again (am definitely not!)

MrsWineasaurus · 18/01/2018 17:30

I'm feeling slightly better. Still really bunged up and tired. Considering going back to work tomorrow but thinking do I just take it off makes it a week then just to make sure I'm 100%. What do you reckon?

Hope you all recover quickly this has been awful! X

keepmoving · 18/01/2018 17:39

Mrs Wine, take a walk round the block and see how you feel. If that exhausts you then probably wait until Monday. I needed a lie down when I tried!

MrsWineasaurus · 18/01/2018 17:42

I've been dragging my arse out every morning for school run and been ready for a nap by the time I get home. School is 5-10 minutes walk away 🙈🙈

Brighteyes27 · 18/01/2018 17:43

MrsWineasaurus - as others have said don’t rush back. Have tomorrow off and the weeeknd and go back Monday if you still feel ok.
I had a shower and washed my hair on Tues which peeled me up briefly but then felt as bad as ever Turs night and Wed night. DS 14 has come home looking dreadful, complaining of bad head, feeling sick, he’s asleep and took his temperature and it’s sky high. We could do with a nurse and housekeeper I can hardly cope with myself never mind another ill human.
My throat still feels like broken glass, blood in mucus, dry lips, cough, crackly chest.
Speedy recovery all.

LEMtheoriginal · 18/01/2018 17:43

Take tomorrow off and potter around house? I went back on Tuesday but was pretty useless. Thankfully was an unusually quiet day and I was able to take things easy.

I had an amazing nights sleep last night.

I sweated buckets but spent the night dreaming I was the Queen as played by Clair Foy.

There was lots of sweating and tossing and turning involved but I had no headache when I woke.

Lots of lemonade, an orange, paracetamol, ibuprofen, an anti histamine and a hot water bottle helped.

Felt like shit by 9:30 am though.

BulletFox · 18/01/2018 19:19

Headache has gone.

My mother is driving me insane as i can't speak properly, I've been telling her for 3 days not to call as it's extremely painful for me to attempt to (I sound like an very scrached, crackly vinyl record crossed with a frog).

If she does it again I'm going to block her for a few days

Whatthefoxgoingon · 18/01/2018 19:42

Well I was feeling all smug this morning when my fever broke. I had a shower and even sat down with a latte I made myself.

I took one sip and my head started spinning. I mean really spinning, I have never experienced nausea like this (not even when pregnant). Got urgent gp appointment thankfully. Diagnosed with labrynthitis.

I’m only able to type this after some anti nausea tablets. Even the sight of food makes me heave. Envy

Flu- 10
Foxy- 0

Brighteyes27 · 18/01/2018 20:12

What a sorry state we are all in. I normally love my food but about all I can stomach and my throat can tolerate is crumpets. I have survived on fluid and occasional crumpets since last Saturday.
Best Is the West - i am with on the very weird very busy bizarre dreams when I can sleep.
Hope we all feel better by the morning.

Pollaidh · 18/01/2018 20:13

Starting to feel a bit better, day 9. Stayed in bed until 2pm as I felt nauseous and had pain in my lungs. Throat improving a lot today, and now getting a bit worse after eating a Proper Meal.

rhubarbcrumble66 · 18/01/2018 23:17

How does this bug start? I had what i thought was a normal cold but in the last hour my throat has turned more sore and my voice hoarse. Really hoping it doesn't take hold!

rhubarbcrumble66 · 18/01/2018 23:17

Also weirdly having aches in my hands and fingers..
