Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

Low mood for sure. And that must be partly lack of exercise. I walked home from work on Friday. It takes me 30 mins normally but this time it took 45 Shock. But will keep trying because I am getting better. Earlier in the week I couldn’t have made it at all. But like pp could not go back to yoga yet. Too dizzy making.

Current symptom status - can’t hear anything. Head still clogged up.

treedragon · 18/02/2018 11:59

@kikashi

I’m having the wobbles and spongy feeling you describe especially when standing up.

treedragon · 18/02/2018 12:00

I’m 6 weeks on today so entering the week leading to week 7!!!

treedragon · 18/02/2018 12:37

Have people here lost weight with this? I know I have

parrotonmyshoulder · 18/02/2018 12:39

Yes, half a stone. Still have a tiny appetite although I want food. Just can’t eat much of it at a time.

VioletCharlotte · 18/02/2018 12:39

I'm feeling a bit better each day. Still coughing and blocked nose though and not sleeping that well. I'm going for a dog walk this afternoon so will see how I feel after that. I'm planning on going back to work tomorrow, which is making me quite anxious.

Vocals I'm really missing yoga too, I'm sure not going is contributing to my low mood. I'm hoping to be able to give it a go by the the end of next week.

parrotonmyshoulder · 18/02/2018 12:40

I’m only heading into week 3 though! It hasn’t lasted as long as yours, treedragon. I’m sure it’s going...

user1471550643 · 18/02/2018 13:00

Yes just over half a stone here too... have a bit more of an appetite now but to scared to go overboard due to never quite knowing what may happen with stomach issues!

VioletCharlotte · 18/02/2018 13:34

Losing weight is the only positive to this virus! My jeans fit lovely now!

Kikashi · 18/02/2018 13:53

I lost weight too but now my appetite has returned I am craving plain carby things including bread (with butter)from local deli which I normally never eat. So I guess all the weight will soon be back on.

treedragon · 18/02/2018 18:31

@partotonmyshoulder

How was your meal? Did you survive OK or did it make you fatigued?

parrotonmyshoulder · 18/02/2018 19:33

I wasn’t the most scintillating of company. I’d had a nap before we went (this is so unlike me it’s ridiculous), but I got very tired part way through. Just home now. DH drove - I’m still not really up to driving.
Dizzy and fatigued again now. But the food was worth it!

SeniorRita · 18/02/2018 20:18

Well, I went for a nine mile walk today, with some uppy bits, so I am happy to say I am 99% better.

I lost weight the first week, but after that I put it all back on and probably some more, due to being too knackered to do much or prep proper food, I mainly ate crisps, hot cross buns and chocolate eclairs.

Backingvocals · 18/02/2018 20:25

Hot cross buns are my go-to ill food as well Smile

I lost weight in week one but it’s all gone back and more due to my hot cross buns and Galaxy diet.

But today I had the energy to stand in the kitchen and make a dinner including a zingy salad of fennel and radishes and lemon. Cannot imagine wanting to eat that last week. So I must be getting better though apparently I still look shit (my mum told me I did - in a caring wayGrin).

Congrats on the 9 miles. That’s brilliant.

treedragon · 19/02/2018 09:13

I’m getting concerned. Six weeks on and I am having odd attacks of shivering. That always seem to happen when I first wake up.

parrotonmyshoulder · 19/02/2018 09:38

When did you last see a Dr, treedragon? Maybe you’ve got something else? I’m going today for a sick note and will get my chest listened to as well as I don’t think it’s much better.

Kikashi · 19/02/2018 10:02

SeniorRita ( miles - amazing. Glad for you. Good to see there is light at the end of tunnel.

Treedragon that sounds horrid. The virus has really messed with your body's rhythms and systems - a call to the GP might be in order - perhaps you are anaemic or have some other deficiency due to this b**ger.

VioletCharlotte · 19/02/2018 10:47

Treedragon that doesn't sound right at all. Are you taking any supplements? It may be that your iron is low, or B12, if you've not been eating properly. I think you should see a Dr, you've been poorly such a long time.

I'm feeling much better today and back at work.

parrotonmyshoulder · 19/02/2018 14:45

How are you doing, treedragon? I’ve got a different course of antibiotics for the chest infection. Hopefully they’ll get rid of it for good. Still exhausted on exertion (very mild exertion!) and feel dizzy/ unpleasant a lot of the time.

MigGril · 19/02/2018 14:59

Gosh I'm worried it'll take me some time to get over this. Should have been back at work today but still running a temperature so have stayed home.

DH took the kids to school this morning I need to pick them up. I have got dressed and done some washing but that is it. Yes I've not had much of an apitie and have lost a little weight in the last week.

Hoping this doesn't drag on to badly we are moving house in 2 weeks 😣.

parrotonmyshoulder · 19/02/2018 15:02

MigGril, yours hasn’t been very long yet! You might have got some time to go.
I’m going to go and pick the kids up at 4. Don’t know if I can manage a half hour walk with the dog first. I think I will try.

springydaffs · 19/02/2018 15:39

Almost entirely symptom free now but I am still incredibly weepy. Absolutely everything sets me off and I have a general feeling I can't cope with the usual rough and tumble of life. I feel shaky in myself and vulnerable.l, like I need to hide away.

I may have posted this before, can't remember, but bear it in mind after the bastard is over.

VioletCharlotte · 19/02/2018 19:52

Springydaffs I feel the same. I feel ok physically, but incredibly low in myself. Work was awful today.

MaggieMay23 · 19/02/2018 20:07

I'm 8 weeks in and almost symptom free - at last!!! I've just a tickly cough sometimes and a little bit of yellow phlegm which I'm hoping will go of it's own accord. I'm left feeling worn out by doing little things and have to have a sit down to recover

endthefarts · 20/02/2018 06:55

Fuck me. Yesterday I felt a lot better. I haven’t been as fluey as most of you but have had a weird virus with symptoms that change every day. Thought I’d got off lightly.

Anyway, I started wheezing yesterday evening out of nowhere and have woken up today unable to catch my breath and with a horrible hollow cough on my chest. Familiar to anyone? I honestly felt more or less normal yesterday until the evening for the first time on a few weeks.
