Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

Yes this was how I was. Had the virus over Xmas-mid January i thought it was gone - just a slight tickle left but woke up with the razor blade throat and then the snots and was twice as bad as first time round. Hope it is not the same for you. My DC seem to be getting away with 20 days.

treedragon · 20/02/2018 09:37

I’m still enduring aches and pains in the hip and shoulder and arbs and I’m just over six weeks in.

Kikashi · 20/02/2018 12:25

Are you still shivering treedragon?

treedragon · 20/02/2018 18:08

On and off @kikashi but i have more of a problem with aching.

SeniorRita · 20/02/2018 22:35

I found co-codamol best for the aches, don't take for more than a couple of days though and be prepared for constipation, i. e. Change your diet to avoid this!

You can buy it cheapest and easiest online, at Pharmacy First, for example.

Lisette40 · 20/02/2018 23:19

Still have it. 3 weeks in now. Awful cough/phlegm, sinusitis/dizzy today. I'm so tired.

Lisette40 · 20/02/2018 23:21

Don't think I have an infection though. Just the virus burning itself out. Raising a hot whiskey to everyone.

treedragon · 21/02/2018 09:33

I darent even say anything positive about how I feel in case the virus reads it and has other ideas. I’m fed up. Don’t remember feeling this “down”. Nor getting worn out folding some towels. This whole thing has also caused me to have anxiety. How can a virus do that?

treedragon · 21/02/2018 09:34

My ears feel full despite the other day being told they are clear and not infected.

Lisette40 · 21/02/2018 09:42

treedragon you get exhausted and stressed trying to cope when ill and that lingers as you are getting better. It's a vicious circle really. Be extra good to yourself.

treedragon · 21/02/2018 09:48

I think it’s the recurring and widespread nature of this too. Standing up still feels odd after a while. When I must do something like get something from a shop I am conscious to do it quick before I feel wobbly and tired.

It’s messed up. It really is.

treedragon · 21/02/2018 09:51

I’ve even had odd dreams and what seems like adrenaline rushes when asleep. It’s just nothing I’ve ever experienced in a “virus”.

treedragon · 21/02/2018 09:54

It’s like that advert for Steak House. Will it be chips or jacket spuds...

Will it be snot or hacking cough, will be headache or aching bones. Will it be sickness, raging sore throat, you’ll have to wait and see.

SeniorRita · 21/02/2018 10:50

Tree - have you been to the GP, you might have glandular fever?

DarthNigel · 21/02/2018 10:56

Dd has it. She felt a bit better today so went to school. I got called at 9.30 to come and get her as she felt dizzy and had gone a weird grey colour. She is due to go away with School next week and will be devvy if she isn't well enough.

treedragon · 21/02/2018 11:02

@SeniorRita

I had that in 2000ish. I’ve been to GP and am told there are particularly nasty flu like virus strains going around this winter that are knocking people off their feet.

MaggieMay23 · 21/02/2018 11:44

@treedragon @SeniorRita I had glandular fever many years ago and I find that my glands swell up whenever I have a cold or virus of any kind - it's that thing whereby these bugs target your weakest points.

When I was at my worst with this bug, my glands were up like a bunch of grapes each side of my neck and they caused a lot of pain in my shoulders, arms, head and neck because they press on blood vessels muscles and tendons etc I thought about going to the doc as I was thinking I might have glandular fever again but mr google persuaded me not to.

Sallystyle · 21/02/2018 12:06

My friend has had it. I have never seen her so ill and for so long.

Two days ago I remarked about how lucky I was to have not caught a virus for so long.

I woke up today with a headache and feel dizzy. I now have a snotty nose coming and my throat is scratchy. It's the start isn't it? I have to go to work this afternoon. I am hoping I will wake up tomorrow and have fought it off.

Fingers crossed.

I hope all you sickies feel much better soon.

VioletCharlotte · 21/02/2018 18:37

Treedragon it's sounds like this has hit you really hard, must be awful for you to be ill for this long. Are you taking any vitamin supplements? I've been taking metatone tonic and feroglobin, it seems to be helping as I've got much more energy now.

treedragon · 22/02/2018 12:02

Yeah take vitamin c.

After 6.5 weeks I am still having intermittent bad taste in the mouth and intermittent dry mouth no matter how much liquid goes in. These symptoms seem to have been long running with me.

How is everyone?

ForestFrump · 22/02/2018 12:18

Please can i join in. I need to moan cos im all on my own with no one to moan too.

Day 12 here of being bed bound. I cannot stand for more than a few moments. Getting to the bathroom to pre is an epic exhausting journey that leaves me shaking more than the usual shaking I've endured since this shit started.
I lost a few hours yesterday going to the loo. Not sure if fell sleep or passed out but awoke slumped on the loo.

Also thought I had bats in my bedroom and bathroom last night.
I have all the usual symptoms phlegm in mass production of bright and dark green in colour, no voice for 9 days, sore throat that comes and goes, a cough, sweats and shaking.
My temp ranges from 37.6 to 39.9 on any given day.
The weird symptoms that are freaking me out though is pressure. It's like a pressure in my chest on some days then my neck and throat, today it's my head and ears. It's like rock solid congestion. The pressure is painful. But along with it it's numbness. Numb legs with tingling. My left leg especially. Sporadic tingling and numbness in my left atm, across chest etc. Yesterday I had numb and tingling throat, neck and tongue. Today it's there but yo a lesser extent.
I called myself a taxi on Tuesday and got myself an emergency GP appointment who confirmed there is nothing serious going on and it's just a virus.

I'm just pissed off that despite staying in bed doing the fluids and paracetamol stuff for 12 days (minus trip to drs) i am literally NO better at all. I even question if im worst??
A friend bought me night nurse which meant I didn't wake uncomfortable in my soaking wet (from sweat) bed last night. I mean it was still soaked this morning but at least it didn't wake me. I've stopped changing my sheets now. I no longer have the energy. I just move to the spare room during the day and leave the other bed to dry out.

Lisette40 · 22/02/2018 12:19

possible problem with your salivary glands treedragon?

Tiredness has gone. still odd sinus trouble but I think it's getting better.

Hope everyone else recovering.

WiltedDaffs · 22/02/2018 12:21

I have this now, it’s hideous. Started on Sunday with shivering, coughing and feeling achey. I took Monday and Tuesday off work, couldn’t sleep with the coughing, temperature and sore throat.

Went back yesterday but regretting that. Thought I was feeling a bit better but my nose started streaming yesterday, my temperature keeps going up in the evenings, I’ve lost my appetite and I just want to sleep. Not been to doctors because I bet they’d say it’s viral, I just want it gone now.

HonkyWonkWoman · 22/02/2018 13:21

Pleased that you are better now Lisettte40, I think that you started this illness just after me and you could have been copying my symptoms.
I'm also feeling better now but with some sinus problems but at least not at "deaths door" like I was.
My Ds, fit young chap has been absolutely knocked off his feet with this virus then seemed to recover and then started with the shivering, aching bones and stomach upset. He's just feeling well enough to walk his dog this morning.
Hopefully, this is the end of it for both of us.
Just to let everyone know that you will all soon be better!

Lisette40 · 22/02/2018 13:27

Thanks Honkywonk. Glad you are feeling better and hope ds is in the mend soon.
