Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

Re boosting immune system, I've started taking prebiotics every day, a powder as well as a glass of kefir.

Not noticing any effect yet but I think the idea is that it helps the friendly gut bacteria to help restore balance in tummy and gradually create a better immune system. It's the one Michael Mosley took on his Sleep programme, think it is are supposed to help with sleep too (not that I would know as is either kept awake by my own coughing or ill DD!)

MigGril · 14/02/2018 15:25

Hi everyone hope some of you are feeling better.

I'm staking mn today as stuck on the sofa feeling sick and painful muscles, plus full of snot and mild temperature. DD came down with it really badly last week, we thought she had tonsillitis. Dr have now confirmed it's viral though she's still coughing a lot. Both me and DH now have it and I'm suspecting flu, we aren't as bad as DD was but we both had our flu jabs and DS who had the naisel spray seems to have avoided it all altogether.

Luckily it's half term and I'm off work this week. DH is off sick, I feel like he's better then me as every time I go upstairs he's making to much noise (watching loud videos). Although he may have taken more drugs. I feel to sick to take much just want to sit hear and not move.

It’s seems folk are dropping like flies with this as new faces are appearing under our blanket.

@Kikashi: How has your day been as you really sounded near the end of your tether this morning...

treedragon · 14/02/2018 15:46

I have been using dioralyte as I think this virus causes dehydration

tass1960 · 14/02/2018 16:01

I'm on week 5 of this starting and going nowhere until now. I am coughing so much it is making me sick I have a sore ear, sore throat,my whole face is sore and I have a permanent sore head (not helped by the cough) - just feeling totally wiped out - second day off work today ....

Kikashi · 14/02/2018 19:33

Thanks Treedragon. My day improved - I managed to have a shower so that I looked respectable enough to walk 8 minutes to the deli to get a loaf of bread. It felt really weird to be out and quite alien. My legs were a bit shaky. Luckily there was no queue and I managed the challenging uphill return walk. Back home I felt very hot and sweaty and coughed for 10 minutes and almost vomited but felt I had actually achieved something.

I felt justified in settling down with a duvet on the sofa and reading a Barbara Pym novel and dropped off for a bit. I then watched Classic Corrie and actively enjoyed it (rather than just watching TV to pass time) . So feeling a bit better I would say - touch wood. It was my birthday today and it wasn't the worst I've had. Perhaps there is light at the end oft he tunnel?

Kikashi · 14/02/2018 19:34

Best wishes to all us plague victims

MigGril · 15/02/2018 08:17

Made it through the night, I was to optimistic yesterday as DS woke up at 3am and threw up. Think he now has it to, 😣.

Was not easy dealing with a sick child with a temperature and coughing. Me and DH played tag team and we all got some sleep in the end.

On building you immune system. I find I'm normally better off then everyone else. Think it mite help that I take high dose vitamin D all year round.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 15/02/2018 08:19

Omg! I’ve been struck down with this virus, I haven’t been this ill in years! I’m quite alarmed to see how long people have been suffering for, I’m on day 3...!

First I got a really bad sore throat, like razor blades, but was managing to keep drinking - then this morning I started throwing up.

Is this the general progression of this horrible virus!

treedragon · 15/02/2018 08:33

It seems to be leaving people with severe fatigue and malaise on exertion and arthritic type pain judging by comments on this thread.

Today the right side of my face is heavy and painful. Possibly sinus related.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 15/02/2018 08:45

Is it the flu? I had the flu jab, maybe it won’t be as bad (clutching at straws)

How long does this dreadful sore throat last?

Writersblock2 · 15/02/2018 08:52

Day 9 for me. Starting to get a sense of smell back, which is kinda weird. Got up to have a drink and now I’m exhausted and back in bed. Chest hurting today but hopefully antibiotics will kick in soon. Get plenty of rest, all.

Backingvocals · 15/02/2018 08:59

I had the flu jab too. Made no difference to me as this was the worst illness I’ve ever had in my life. However I didn’t get the sore throat and I get a sore throat at the drop of a hat. So maybe this is a couple of viruses?

I’ve now just got sinus pain and horrific exhaustion particularly on exertion (ie walk to the shop 50 yards awayShock). Day 19.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 15/02/2018 09:06

Hmmm I don’t have a cough just the ‘razor blade’ sore throat. Maybe there are different varieties....

Get well soon all

treedragon · 15/02/2018 09:21

@Backingvocals

Are you experiencing the arthritic like pain in the joints muscles hip back wherever?

treedragon · 15/02/2018 09:22

I also had the flu jab. And I don’t recall feeling this unwell for a long time.

endthefarts · 15/02/2018 09:24

I don’t know if I’ve got this or not, but I’ve definitely got something weird that won’t go away and keeps mutating into new symptoms. Does any of this sound familiar:

Weird headaches and bad dizziness for a couple of weeks but not other symptoms. Quite debilitating with the dizziness though

Mild cold symptoms - tickly throat, but snotty but thought I was sailing through it fine.

Morphed into horror cold for a couple of days, no sleep, shivering, aching, congested etc

Suddenly felt much better and was ok in an ‘end of a cold’ way for a day or 2.

Tickly throat came back, then sore throat and aches and shivers.

Now bad nausea and wobbly

Throughout the entire thing I’ve had an intermittent upset stomach with cramps and diarrhoea - but it goes for a day and then comes back.

So far I’m not as bad as most of you but it’s following the same going and coming back with different symptoms pattern.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 15/02/2018 09:27

Endthefarts- yes that’s what I’ve been experiencing but I hadn’t joined it all up!

parrotonmyshoulder · 15/02/2018 09:35

Pretty sure mine was flu, due to the necessity for an entire week literally in bed. Now just post-viral fatigue/ malaise I think. Still can’t do much but my brain is starting to work again and I’m considering a haircut...

EUnamechange · 15/02/2018 10:25

Treedragon

I tried to work from bed the first week, not thinking it was flu (I've had it even worse before). Eventually staggered to GP thinking it was possibly strep throat, and he told me it was clearly flu. Ended up off work for 3 weeks.

So I am guessing we are all suffering the bone aching arthritic type pain? Do you guys find it feels worse first thing in the morning when you wake up and your legs feel wobbly? This is how I am find it and am getting concerned I’m the only one.

treedragon · 15/02/2018 11:12

@endthefarts

Yes that kind of sums me up. Like a daily tombola of symptoms drawn from a raffle hat.

But throughout I’ve had intermittent gut disturbances and nausea. Like often bad acid indigestion.

Kikashi · 15/02/2018 11:14

I only have bad pain in my elbows and lower arms now especially in the morning but am wondering if it could partly be due to sleeping position (sort of crossing my arms on my chest and hunching in my sleep) and not being active for such a long stretch.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 15/02/2018 11:17

Ffs! I’ve just looked in the mirror for the first time in days - my face is so puffy and my chin is covered in white pimples. What the hell is going on?!?
