Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

You’re a bit ahead of me on this @kikashi.

I’m just over 5 weeks in.

MigGril · 15/02/2018 11:19

My joints ach like anything. This is why I'm saying it's flu, pain like this I've only ever had with flu. Alternating painkillers helps to some extent but I still feel hot.

I've had my flu jab to but I now know a few people who have had theirs and had confirmed flu by the doctor's. It's not a total protection but does apparently make it less server. I'm certainly better then DD was last week.

SeniorRita · 15/02/2018 11:36

I think I feel better. My cough is still there now and then and some congestion.

No headache now, no aches generally, don't feel hot any more. The chest pains and feeling of having a tennis ball in my sternum have gone. Still tired but not bone-weary tired or out of breath just walking to the kitchen. I still have an intermittent upset tummy, was a bit bad yesterday.

Started on 22nd Jan. So, three weeks. Hope I don't have a relapse!

Backingvocals · 15/02/2018 11:39

I haven't had any joint paints actually. I feel left out Grin

Just unable to walk 100 metres without needing to sit down. And my walking is so slow. It's weird. I can't work out why - I just can't seem to build up to any pace. I think it's my lungs protesting.

VioletCharlotte · 15/02/2018 12:21

I'm feeling much better than I was, but still feeling exhausted and doing anything more strenuous than sitting on the sofa takes it out of me. I'm terrified it will come back as I keep hearing stories that it does this. I just want my life back!!

Sending best wishes to all my fellow sufferers x

treedragon · 15/02/2018 12:50

A few weeks back I was wiped out by merely folding some dry laundry up.

Today I have managed to walk about 300 metres while getting a few essential groceries.

I kept feeling wobbly though and wanted all the auld codgers to get out of the way who seem to have no logical path around a store and just wander in front of me and block up the exit.

treedragon · 15/02/2018 12:51

PS: I expect I’ll be like that one day

treedragon · 15/02/2018 12:55

Plus I’d found I’ve been craving and giving into wanting to eat junk. For example crisps are something I rarely desire but really wanted to eat them. Cookies. Not just one but several on the trot.

Today I have fixed a sub dried tomato roll with turkey and have a giant orange to eat.

Is today a glimmer of light or is it the virus tricking me? Stay tuned....

Lisette40 · 15/02/2018 13:30

I would go to a dealer to get my citrus fix. I'm having odd food cravings. Weird virus.

treedragon · 15/02/2018 13:53

I've been craving junky rubbish like chocolate puddings, big cookies, crisps, croissants. Things I would very rarely eat any quantity of.

Also throughout the duration of this virus with bad throat my tongue has an odd brownish yellowish coating on it. Did anyone else have this?

user1471550643 · 15/02/2018 13:54

Well day 13 for me and I now have antibiotics for a chest infection... this virus just keeps giving ...

treedragon · 15/02/2018 14:16

@LEMtheorigina

Dear OP how are you now after starting this now very lengthy thread??

Lisette40 · 15/02/2018 14:25

I imagine she's LEMsip by now. Just thinking the same tree.

My diet wasn't great prior to the virus but I'm craving healthy stuff now. Silver lining.

I've really dry lips and skin and endless phlegm. Would recommend strong mints for the post nasal drip.

treedragon · 15/02/2018 17:46

I have been given an inhaler for the coughing by a different GP today and was told my chest X-Ray was normal.

They said this mofo is about 8 to 12 weeks but expect to even feel effects of fatigue after that as it's clearly strong. I spoke of the relapse of the condition and they thought it could be either two or more separate viruses at once or my theory is that it is one mofo that feels bad so when it goes and feel "not so bad" you think you feel better and then exertion brings it all on again.

So at 5.5 weeks I still have a bit of mileage to go yet :(

treedragon · 15/02/2018 17:48

Incidentally are people here finding it very hard to get an appointment with a GP? Where I am it seems as hard as nuclear physics. Particularly i I want to see my own GP I am assigned to. I can see other GPs and the copious come day go day locums that seem to fill the place.

Backingvocals · 15/02/2018 18:01

Very hard to see a gp. I had to beg for an appointment when I was at my illest. Given this was the worst illness I have had in all my 50 years I thought it was reasonable to want to be seen by a medical professional. But this is the NHS today - being that ill still doesn’t entitle you to be seen Hmm

I have actually been seen again since as I had a long standing appointment for something else which I repurposed for this and that’s when I got antibiotics for the chest infection. I’m going back in another two weeks as I wonder if the infection is still there.

Bon courage to all the illies Smile

SeniorRita · 15/02/2018 18:10

I have not had any difficulty getting a GP appointment, both times I phoned and said 'can I book an appointment' they said 'who with' and I said 'any GP' and they asked me what day I would like to come, both times they have given me appointments on the day I asked for. I think it was a locum I saw, but saw the same woman twice.

And when she referred me to the hospital for the Xray, I came home, packed a small bag with phone power pack, water, snacks, book, wet wipes, hand cream and tissues, went to hospital expecting to be there hours and was done and out within about 40 minutes.

treedragon · 15/02/2018 20:43

We all need a holiday after this

SeniorRita · 15/02/2018 21:15

I am off to Iceland (the country...) in under four weeks, so am glad I feel better and hope it doesn't come back!

Kikashi · 15/02/2018 21:50

Iceland is my favourite destination - I envy you SeniorRita

My chest is very tight again today and very irritated, lots of coughing- damn it. Thinking of seeing the GP - have inhalers helped you treedragon?

Lisette40 · 15/02/2018 22:27

My pelvic floor is struggling with all the coughing. I'm okay with a normal cold but this virus is really testing my innards.

Kikashi · 15/02/2018 22:48

Yes Lisette40 Tena Lady territory

treedragon · 15/02/2018 22:54

It is OK @kikashi its a blue inhaler. The blood streaks she said were not of major concern. They get bothered if it’s like lots of blood throughout the day. Apparently everything is still irritated down there from the virus and coughing fits somehow draw blood. She thinks the dizziness and wobbly legs could be a mix of fatigue and also ear and sinus blockage and congestion causing balance issues. I also think this has given me anxiety. It’s the random unpredictable recurring nature of it I think.

treedragon · 15/02/2018 23:01

Aftermath my efforts at getting a few essential groceries I had to get in bed for a bit and sleep and rest. I’m hoping it won’t cause a relapse tomorrow. Will rest up more over next few days. I’ve been eating better today with sundried tomato rolls, soup, fruit, blue berries and plain natural yogurt. Have not felt a keen desire for junky type foods.

HonkyWonkWoman · 16/02/2018 09:00

Well, I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Finished my Amoxicillin last night and have slept through for the first night in about two weeks.
Gurgly, mucousy cough is settling! Aches and pains gone!
Feeling peckish!!!!!
Still slightly weak and not going to do much today but
Dare I Hope that it has gone???
