Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

Awful unshiftable headache all night - feels a bit sinussy now. And DH has just announced his parents are visiting for the weekend. This is not the same as my mum coming to help for a few days. Not at all...

keepingbees · 14/02/2018 09:16

I've got this virus too, been ill since last week with it. 2 of my kids have had it dragging on with cold symptoms, burning up, stomach upset and being sick just the once.
I haven't been sick but I've no appetite, I've been swinging between shivering cold and sweating burning up. I've got a cough, earache, sinus pain, exhaustion, sore throat on and off and sticky eyes. Perfect for half term when no one will help me out with the kids Sad

Kikashi · 14/02/2018 09:25

Mother how awful for you and your little one - so, so worrying and unrelenting.

I'm only 7 weeks in and feel like screaming. Does anyone know if a short course of steroids would stop it in its tracks?? I know GP's aren't keen to prescribe, but... how long can you put your life on hold?

My finances (self employed) are suffering as my main contract ended at Xmas and I should be desperately taking on anything and everything but can't travel atm. My food bill has plummeted as no one is very hungry - white carbs all round with the teens which isn't very good for re building their strength. The bowls of steamed veg just lie untouched.

Hoping everyone is waking u to a better day

treedragon · 14/02/2018 09:38

Massive group hug.

I love all the fluffy poorly bunnies here

treedragon · 14/02/2018 09:43

@Ledkr

The vile taste was / is one of the most prominent symptoms. Makes food and drink even water taste horrid.

EUnamechange · 14/02/2018 09:49

I'm at 5 weeks now and on holiday. OK, still getting tired quickly. Bit of a sore throat, croak and sinus pain. Don't go to high altitude though, makes the sinus pain about 50 times worse, as I've just discovered.

BestIsWest · 14/02/2018 09:55

Week 5 too. Still have a bit of a cough and get tired easily.

The vile taste has gone now though.

treedragon · 14/02/2018 10:08

@Kikashi

I know the feeling of wanting to scream with this.

treedragon · 14/02/2018 10:34

@MaggieMay23

How are you today after your mission into town?

Seeline · 14/02/2018 10:38

Day 12 here. Been in bed since last Tuesday. Still can't summon the energy for a shower. Little appetite and still hacking cough. Upset tum which I had attributed to the ABs, but maybe not. Still I managed a whole day yesterday without a temperature which is a vast improvement on the 101 I have had since last Tuesday.

Sillysausage123 · 14/02/2018 10:39

My son has been ill for over 7 weeks now with headache/earache, dizziness, feeling sick and stomach pain and chest pain.
Has seen the dr numerous times but fobbed off.

Is this the same virus that everyone has?

LaLaLolly · 14/02/2018 10:48

I feel terrible. My temperature was spiking up to 40C for four days.

Now it has stabilised, but all the other symptoms remain.

I feel like I'm swallowing shards of glass and am permanently exhausted.

Does this beast have a name?

Do we have any immunity boosting remedies? I'm going to start investigating green smoothies and probiotics.

treedragon · 14/02/2018 10:58

Who here is signed off an unable to work.?

VioletCharlotte · 14/02/2018 11:04

Hello, another one here with the awful virus. I'm on Day 7. I felt a bit better when I first woke up, but I've had a shower and now feel like I need to go back to bed, I'm exhausted. Really fed up with it now, I'm fortunate not to get ill very often, I don't know what to do with myself. Feel like I should be making an effort to do stuff, but I've just not got the energy.

Are others suffering with upset stomach too? I keep getting awful stomach cramps and diarrhoea and can't really eat much, other than toast.

Writersblock2 · 14/02/2018 11:13

Probably TMI but even though I am managing to eat, I am going to the loo an awful lot. I wondered if it was too many Lemsip so haven’t had one yet today but still crapping through the eye of a needle.

Off to the Dr shortly. Hate going because I always feel like if a limb isn’t falling off it’s time wasting.

treedragon · 14/02/2018 11:27

My stomach issues with this seem like some kind of bad acid indigestion with bubbling and growling in the stomach and terrible nausea.

Do you all feel wobbly on the legs? Like you have had a skinful and can’t walk in a straight line. I’m having real issues with this and now getting concerned so will be returning to the GP tomorrow to discuss it.

Writersblock2 · 14/02/2018 12:39

Well, just returned from Dr. He said it sounds like the flu but obviously can’t be certain without lab tests. He said it has given me a chest infection, however, and has put me on antibiotics and signed me off work. Good job I went - was hospitalised for untreated chest infections as a kid.

Off to bed again - knackered after that. Hope you all feel better soon!

yawning801 · 14/02/2018 12:48

Day 6 over here. Yeurgh. That is all.

user1471550643 · 14/02/2018 12:49

Hi yes I’ve been signed off this week. Still can’t see how I’m going to rally to be back to work on Monday. I’m finding every day seems to drift into the next. Just had a shower and had to sit down to wash my hair. Today I’ve got the sinus pains back and yes seem to have a permanently upset stomach and waves of stomach cramps and feeling sick. Thank god for you lot, at least I know I’m not on my own in this

treedragon · 14/02/2018 13:09

I had to nip into town behind my house and bumped into someone I know who said their whole family was ravaged by this over Christmas. Reported the aching, vomiting, throat, stomach and leaving them weak and fatigued. They said they are still not right even now.

parrotonmyshoulder · 14/02/2018 13:11

I’m not signed off but am on holiday. I can’t see how I’ll be ready for work next week though as I still need to nap several times a day and have to sit down after walking up or down a flight of stairs. My job is a very hectic 8-5 with no sitting down! And then there’ll be looking after the DC either end of that.
Pain wise, I’m pretty good today though.

treedragon · 14/02/2018 13:22

Basically my friend said that his family’s Christmas’s and new year was totally ruined by it and if the hadn’t taken chrismas leave would have been off work

MaggieMay23 · 14/02/2018 13:36

Thanks for asking @treedragon
I'm starting to feel on the mend and don't feel any worse for my trip into town yesterday despite getting soaked by the rain. I'm staying at home today though as I don't want to give this bug any chance of creeping back
I'm wondering what's a good way of boosting the immune system after the onslaught from this bug - any ideas anyone?

Seeline · 14/02/2018 13:40

Had a shower ☺️
Back in bed recovering 😀

VioletCharlotte · 14/02/2018 14:13

Maggiemay I've been looking into things to boost my immune system. My friend has suggested metatone tonic, so I'm sending DS up to the chemist for some later.

There's all sorts of recipes online for ginger teas, garlic soups, spinach smoothies, etc, but I'm too exhausted to either shop for ingredients or prepare anything right now.
