Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

Where are we all on this at the moment? I’m 5.5 weeks into it tomorrow. Still recurrent arthritic pain, wobbly legs, overwhelming fatigue and malaise and intermittent nausea and still lack of appetite but at times feel hungry.

springydaffs · 13/02/2018 20:02

About week 7 for me.

I'm wondering about doing some meditations visualising my bod gobbling up the bastard mutation that has invaded said body.

Can't hurt.

treedragon · 13/02/2018 20:04

Also I wanted to ask if people have experienced chest pains with this?

Ledkr · 13/02/2018 20:05

Tree dragon I have all that! Plus a cough and slight head cold. I went to sleep at 9 last night and slept till 7 and was all wobbly and weak. I even checked to see if I'd accidentally taken the wrong tablets last night but I hadn't.

treedragon · 13/02/2018 20:07

@springdaffs

7 weeks and you are not symptom free?

Ledkr · 13/02/2018 20:07

No chest pain but a cough which occasionally feels like I'm choking on something which has "gone down the wrong way" Confused

treedragon · 13/02/2018 20:09

I went to bed last night at about 1930. I was really achy and pissed off. Tonight I’m now sat in bed and it’s just gone 8

springydaffs · 13/02/2018 20:13

Well not quite symptom free treedragon, sorry, but not bad at all! No one would know as I'm back on the road and functioning. The very worst is past.

Even tho it's been grim I don't think I've had a severe case- not when I read yours accounts. I've had all the symptoms people are posting but none of them severely.

Definitely had a brush with a trojan though. A right beastie.

Ledkr · 13/02/2018 20:13

Im trying to stay up later as I was aching from being in my bed so long.
My temperature is consistently 99.7 which I know isn't that high but slightly raised (I think)

treedragon · 13/02/2018 20:27

That's just prompte me to test mine and it has come back as 97.5 F.

How accurate that is I am not sure as is only a cheap thermometer.

Maybe that also exacerbates my aching. Lounging around but I feel that is all I can do plus very light activity.

Ledkr · 13/02/2018 20:45

I'm really enjoying this thread Wink
I don't think anyone listens to my constant "I feel so ill" said in my croaky voice!

Writersblock2 · 13/02/2018 20:49

I felt better this evening, to the point where I wondered if I should cancel Dr tomorrow and go to work. So I decided to have a shower. I’ve been in bed ever since, completely cream crackered, pounding head, hacking cough. I don’t get it!

treedragon · 13/02/2018 21:04

Don't cancel the Doctors then @Writersblock2

This is the thing with this horrid virus. It tricks you - makes you think ohh I fell OK so you start making plans and then BANG it sneaks up and wipes you out.

At the moment I only feel comfortable when I am at home. I feel like I have morphed into a vulnerable old person who is prone to falls and needs a warden to call each day - like I need to move into sheltered accommodation.

treedragon · 13/02/2018 21:09

According to tinternet normal temperature is considered to be between 97 to 99 F

treedragon · 13/02/2018 21:10

@Writersblock2

I have got fatigued and malaised by simply having a shave. Last time I tried I ended up sitting on a stool to do so instead of standing at the sink.

I even feel nervous taking a bath or shower in case I come over all peculiar and wobbly like this causes.

Writersblock2 · 13/02/2018 21:14

@treedragon thank you, glad to know I’m not going mad. Sat huddled with a Lemsip right now, feeling like I’ve been hit by a bus. Dr it is! Hope you feel better soon.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 13/02/2018 21:42

Came to read this thread because I’ve just visited a friend who is in week 2 (might well be one of you, don’t know if she’s on MN). She was wondering whether any point in going to GP? Thinks she’ll just be told to keep talking paracetamol and drink lots of water.
She’s also got no appetite, we were trying to think what she might enjoy but she couldn’t think of anything and she loves her food.
Anyone got any advice I can pass to her? Really sorry for you all, am sure my turn will come x

Writersblock2 · 13/02/2018 21:56

I’m going to the Dr but only because I now need a note to stay off work. I’m also a bit worried about my breathing so want them to check that out. Guidelines say if no improvement after seven days then visit GP.

Soup is good - important to stay hydrated.

Ledkr · 13/02/2018 22:09

I'm sneezing like mad now! New symptom alert 🙄

MotherofaSurvivor · 13/02/2018 22:35

My 3yr old has had it since December! Not eating properly, lethargic, sore throat, dizziness, headache. Seems to have wrecked her immune system. She's crazy bleeding whenever she cuts herself, bruising every 2 mins. Constant runny nose. Absolute hell. This is month 3

treedragon · 13/02/2018 22:40

@Ledkr

I had the sneezing fits weekend of 4 feb Friday and the Saturday. Seemed more at night but fits of constant non stop sneezing. That was just at about my week three point.

treedragon · 14/02/2018 08:54

So 5.5 weeks and I’ve woken up feeling like crap. Wobbly legs, aching dizziness and gut disturbances.

How is this possible after so long?

Is sleeping and lying in bed actually causing the pain and stiffness when I wake up

Backingvocals · 14/02/2018 08:56

The bleeding sounds odd mother. Has the dr commented on that ?

LittleSwede · 14/02/2018 09:00

I thought I was feeling a bit better last weekend but started feeling ill again last Monday. Now into week 7 today. Not sure if it is the same thing or if I developed another cold last week which just went straight to respiratory system. Pain in windpipe, phlegmy cough, aches etc again.

DD is ill again so been sitting up with her last two nights. She had what I had (what we are all having on here!) in January, but was 'only' ill for two weeks. Now she seems to have an ear infection, insisted on wearing a hat indoors yesterday as hear head hurt. Saw GP who said no point in antibiotics. Temp 38,7 this morning.

DH hasn't had this with exception of body aches but woke up with a cold this morning.

Writersblock, probably a good idea to get breathing checked, if only for your own reassurance. They might give you an inhaler or something. I find that the constant worry isn't helping with recovery.

Ledkr · 14/02/2018 09:04

Woken up snotty and have a sore chest and vile taste in my mouth.
Dd has gone to a holiday club so I'm staying put today. Grin
