Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

Yes to the exertion thing. I can't imagine ever going for a run or a swim again. Climbing two flights of stairs is as much as I can manage and I live in a four storey house so I need to take breaks on the way up to the children's room Shock. I can't imagine my fitness has taken this much of a hit after two weeks so I'm assuming it's a lingering after effect of the virus - it feels like my lungs are just not working properly.

Kikashi · 13/02/2018 10:56

Chest tighter again today - serves me right for having hope I was recovering yesterday. It is so weird the way it just won't go and lingers and mutates!

Was planning to try to walk to the end of my street today but it's raining icy hail so will probably give that a swerve. My sympathies to everyone suffering this plague.

Lisette40 · 13/02/2018 11:00

Gosh Backing you must feel awful. It's a catch 22 really. I don't want to really push myself in case it comes back but at the same time I want to get back to normal and exercise is good for my mood.

Backingvocals · 13/02/2018 11:25

Yes that's it. I keep expecting that if I do these little walks they'll be tough but I'll feel stronger the next day. It's not happened so far. Flowers for everyone going through this - it has made me feel quite vulnerable. I'm a single parent so being so ill makes things really difficult and the children were quite scared at one point. Makes me realise how awful it is for people with a chronic condition especially when they also have children to care for.

treedragon · 13/02/2018 12:09

I am not sure of this is still the virus itelf or some kind of post viral syndrome.

My nose so far is no longer snotty but ohhh the body aches that wax and wane and the fatigue from simply holding a tissue.

At times when I am standing up it feels like I am on some kind of wobbly floor supported by springs.

The pains I have seem to be everywhere including the hands and feet, ankles, heels, tops of hands, elbows. You name it there's a twinge or a pain.

Writersblock2 · 13/02/2018 12:24

Not sure what I’ve got but hoping for some sympathy. I’m on day 7. Started out with a big ass headache and cold symptoms (aches, runny nose), developed full on cold symptoms that seemed to only last 24 hours (got through an unholy amount of tissues in that time). Nose stopped running but all of my sinuses are completely bunged up. I’m getting a lot of pain in all of them. I’m steaming and using a Neti pot. Bringing up a load of yellow mucus from my nose and yellow phlegm from my throat. On day 4 or 5 I started getting a really sore throat, like I was swallowing razor blades. Extremely painful. That was short lived too, but has left me with a hacking cough that seems to get worse at night. Through the whole lot I have been pooping way more often than normal, and I’ve been completely exhausted.

That’s the bit that really gets me - the exhaustion. I’ll be on the sofa of an afternoon, a lemsip will have kicked in, and I think oh maybe I’m getting bette and I can go to work tomorrow. Then I’ll get up to go upstairs to the loo and it utterly wiped me out. I’ve made an appointment with the Dr tomorrow because I’ll need a fit note to be off any longer but I feel like such a fraud! I think because the symptoms keep changing and because one minute I think I’m fine and then the next I’m clinging onto the table because my head is killing me.

Can anyone relate?

Lisette40 · 13/02/2018 12:32

Yes. That's what it's like. I thought I felt better and then it would be back. Much sympathy.

Writersblock2 · 13/02/2018 12:43

Thanks, Lisette40 / it seems neverending!

HonkyWonkWoman · 13/02/2018 14:03

Lisette40 you have catalogued my symptoms from beginning to end.
I've had it probably over 10 days and have been on Amoxicillin for last 4.
Still feel weak but I've got to say the razor blade throat, hacking cough, green mucous spitting is eventually receding.
Scared now, after reading these posts that it's just a calm before the Storm and I'll be back to the hell in a few days.
Trying to feel quietly confident.
Feeling sooooo sorry for all you on here with this Hell recurring endlessly. 💐☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️🌈🌈🌈☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️🌝

7 weeks today and I've ventured into town for a dental appointment. Feeling tired and I keep overheating. BUT I think/hope I I'm the mend

treedragon · 13/02/2018 14:54

@MaggieMay23

That’s good you managed that now after seven weeks. Are you suffering and of the arthritic type pain we are reporting?

parrotonmyshoulder · 13/02/2018 15:16

How about really sore eyes as a new symptom/ post viral symptom? My vision has gone blurry in one of them as well.

Autofill · 13/02/2018 15:43

Gosh didn’t think I’d be back on this thread but, hey. I’m on day 15 here and no signs of let up. My sinuses and jaw are all still agony (dissolvable codeine is helping) and keep getting dizzy spells/fatigue spells. Am due back to work tomorrow and am dreading it but busiest 2 weeks of the year beckon me. Can’t wait until Spring comes around 🌞🌞

I can’t really read. My audible backlog has been well and truly worth it.

treedragon · 13/02/2018 16:28

I can report visual disturbances.

Like a blurred patch I had. My eyes also hurt and felt sticky.

yawning801 · 13/02/2018 16:44

My eyes are having trouble focusing, but it may be to do with my headache.

yawning801 · 13/02/2018 16:46

I bloody hope I'm better by Monday. I have to go to London for a hospital appointment. Considering that I can hardly climb the stairs without conking out, that will be interesting. I've got a barking cough, absolutely zero appetite, on and off nausea, sore nose, runny nose, blocked nose, headache, etc etc... I'm done with the pity party now,

springydaffs · 13/02/2018 17:00

You people keep me sane.

I'm having the visual disturbances, very like a migraine but without the awesome pain of a migraine (tho it does feel weird). I'm so HEARTENED it's a synonym bcs I had cancer a couple of years ago and it's very hard not to panic when a weird symptom presents itself - not helped by GPs panicking ditto. So PHEW is all I can say.

Yes to weird gothic upsetting nightmares. Yes to arthritic elbow joints. Yes to very low mood - I'm weeping all over the shop.

BUT I am in the home strait, no question. I put some of this down to intense gargling (salt water, tea tree) and rabid throat spraying - beating the bastard into submission. If I eased off with the intense throat spraying/gargling then the symptoms roared back.

Oh and covonia, I heart you. Anything covonia.

Much love to you dear people who are suffering. I think once our immune symptoms get on top of this beast we'll have super immunity for life. Don't anyone disabuse me on that or I'll kill you

winterwonderly · 13/02/2018 17:00

Right, mission to tackle this bug has started. I've just managed a short walk, the cold air has definitely helped clear my head a bit after being cooped up inside for so long. I've purchased some actimel probiotic drinks, first one consumed. Off to browse amazon now to purchase some stronger probiotic tablets. This has to work!

springydaffs · 13/02/2018 17:04

Immune systems you fucker predictive

treedragon · 13/02/2018 17:10

I think the immune system takes a battering with this. I think the virus is a battle for the body hence the fatigue to re energise.

I’m now just considering this a 12 week thing like the GP said.

treedragon · 13/02/2018 17:26

I saw in the news online people have reported hallucinations with Aussie Flu and the need to be carried to and from the loo.

MaggieMay23 · 13/02/2018 17:58

I'm back home recovering after my trip into town - it was full of queues, crowded, wet, tiring and frustrating. I got soaked with rain. Hope i don't get a setback.
I've had all the arthritic aches - even toothaches. My worst aches were in my head, neck, shoulders and arms. I think from having swollen glands in my neck like a bunch of grapes pressing on my muscles tendons blood vessels, etc. Also, my eyes ache and water lots - like I'm leaking mucous

yawning801 · 13/02/2018 18:10

Right. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow (an existing one, just a routine blood test) and I'm going to crawl to Sainsbury's on the way back and get Covonia, throat sprays, anything to smother this big bastard. If this lasts twelve weeks, I'm going to go nuts. And reading what everyone else is putting, I may as well check into the loony bin now. At least I haven't been sick again... touch wood...
