Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

Tinnitus! Anyone have this ringing in their ears as well?

MyGuideJools · 29/01/2018 11:57

My throat still isn't 'right' and I've got a temperature with awful night sweats but in the whole I've definitely improved.
My poor friend had the awful cough and chest infection 3 weeks before Xmas, coughed her way through Xmas and is now back in bed feeling awful. The Dr gas given her steroids. Sad

MyGuideJools · 29/01/2018 11:57

has, not gas!

MyGuideJools · 29/01/2018 12:01

vanguard I had the tinnitus at the start of my cold, it was horrible. my whole head felt like it was stuffed with cotton wool and bumble bees! I did put my head over a bowl of boiling water and made a little tent with a towel. That seemed to loosen things up a bit.

thegreylady · 29/01/2018 13:26

I feel a little bit better though I hardly dare say so!

MissMurielStacy · 29/01/2018 14:03

I've started to feel more human but still quite phlegmy, I can't cough it up though.
Had a busy day on Saturday and really suffered for it yesterday; I felt absolutely wiped out.

BaconAndAvocado · 29/01/2018 18:32

Day 6 and I'm finally feeling better!

After posting here on Saturday I passed out during the night and seemed to sweat gallons and gallons.

I left the house for the first time in 7 days today. It wiped me out but felt so good to get some fresh air.

Hopefully I'll continue to feel better and get back to work.

Hang in there all other sufferers Flowers

springydaffs · 30/01/2018 00:37

ABs finished Saturday morning and I've started to feel crap again, messy sore throat, dry cough, temp - I can't believe it! How the fuck do you get rid of this fucker???

windowboxes · 30/01/2018 07:57

Springydaffs - felt same after I stopped antibiotics but rested a couple of days (not in bed but just didn’t do much, early nights etc) and took pro biotics and loads of vitamins / healthy food. Felt better after 2 days and it’s not yet returned. I still feel a bit tired (3weeks on) but I would say mostly better! When ABs wearoff I think it’s normal to feel low energy etc.

MaggieMay23 · 30/01/2018 09:05

I'm hoping I'm over the worst of it - I'm 4 weeks into it and I've gone through a gamut of symptoms cold hacking chesty cough catarrh sinus pain swollen glands headache nausea pulled stomach muscles etc etc
I had a flu jab!! I'm taking probiotics and zinc and vit d.
I think it'll only go properly when we get a holiday and some sunshine

springydaffs · 30/01/2018 15:37

In the waiting room for gp appointment #4. Green phlegm again (tmi)

What do probiotics do? I know what they do generally. But why now?

MaggieMay23 · 30/01/2018 17:05

Springydaffs I think they help with immunity - I'm not sure that proven though.
Hope you get help from your GP

BulletFox · 30/01/2018 17:40

I still sound awful, like a rusty wind machine, if I try to sing. Still very tired and my friend is annoyed with me for cancelling on him yesterday (it wasn't just the virus, my boiler wasn't working and there is not a chance in hell I was seeing him with a virus AND greasy hair) but it's clearing.

There is light at the end of the the tunnel!

It's been useful whinging on here so thank you, fellow virusees :)

crackerjacket · 30/01/2018 17:43

These all sound awful

Flowers for everyone

Woolfrai · 30/01/2018 18:49

I coughed so hard today that I was physically sick. So awful. I've got back and chest pain - I hate going to the doctors when the NHS is so stressed, but I've had this cough for about seven weeks now so I think it's time to see them.

Hope everyone is on the way to recovery.

NantheWiser I hope you are feeling much better.

ParadiseCity · 30/01/2018 19:06

Day 9 survivor here. Shitty but functioning. So behind at work and with home stuff I fully expect a relapse. Was given a free HEALTHY turmeric and coconut milk concoction in pret.... Envy

Misty9 · 30/01/2018 20:56

Day 14 in the germ filled house...and I'm through the worst I think but now am left with a stinking streaming cold. Managed a day at work but an increasingly sore nose and eye from all the blowing :(
But still feel better than last week! The kids are getting ill now....

NanTheWiser · 30/01/2018 21:24

Thanks, Woolfrai! I think I'm almost recovered now. Got the all-clear from OOH (not pneumonia) and started to feel better on Sunday. But it's been a devil of a virus this year. I rarely get colds, this one really floored me.

MaggieMay23 · 31/01/2018 12:40

Feeling awful today. It's a month of this nasty bug and my glands are still swollen, I've a hacking cough and sinus pains. I feel worn out and fed up. I'm taking paracetamol and ibuprofens with the occasional steam inhalation. What else can I do? When will it go??

Screamer1 · 31/01/2018 18:37

Sorry if this had been talked about earlier in the thread, but does anyone keep feeling achey and shivery 3 weeks after the first symptoms? I've had the awful cough and felt shivery and flu like when I first got it. But it's 3 weeks on now and I started to feel like that again. It's awful.

SophieJo · 31/01/2018 19:57

Week 3 and, dare I say it, feel as though there is light at the end of an awful tunnel. Yes I still have occasional night shivers and still feel exhausted but hacking cough is easing and I am sleeping better.

littlebillie · 31/01/2018 20:29

Day 5 feel slightly better but now in agony in bed does any one else have aches and pains everywhere while in bed?

littlebillie · 31/01/2018 20:32

I haven't had much of a temperature but cold all the time. Has anyone had nightmares they were of the gothic nature of childhood horrifying

whyhastherumgone · 31/01/2018 20:36

Gargle with TCP. It's disgusting but the only thing that's suppressed my cough and numbed my throat long enough to get some sleep.

crackerjacket · 31/01/2018 20:38

Dunno what is going on this year with weird viruses.

I've had a version or 'strain' as the experts say of hand foot and mouth that made my nails fall off months later and gave me the itchiest hands I've ever experienced.

Also had a sinus infection that made me hack up balls of stuff that looked like bloody connective tissues? TMI sorry.

Also had a really bad chesty cough for weeks and weeks. Really painful and hacking. Yuck.

Not fun.

Roll on Spring.
