Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

I've admitted defeat I'm taking the day off work tomorrow, was so ill today I was in tears at lunchtime. Not going for me or the kids I teach, I'm just now got to be there. Got home at 4, got on sofa with duvet stayed there until 9, had a bit of toast and am now in bed.

I am so tired, sore throat, headache, shivery then sweating, no appetite and feel faint and dizzy.

beautifulpheasant · 24/01/2018 21:55

Yep had it here 7 days to clear, 5 days bedridden and a throat from hell.

BaconAndAvocado · 24/01/2018 22:48

sweetkitty I've got exactly the same symptoms as you and I teach.

Feel so guilty taking time off but there's no way I could do my job properly like this.

hope you feel better soon. I've been in bed all day, DS2 the same.

OutToGetYou · 24/01/2018 22:54

I am ill. Not as bad as you are saying but like a mini flu. Temp, racking cough, headache, runny tummy, ache all over.
It started yesterday at work, was working at home today so was easier, but now have for days, plus weekend off and have a load of stuff to do plus appointments (ironically one with the GP Friday) which I won't make if this isn't better soon.

I can recommend honey and lemon with a good swig of rum in it!

shewolfmum · 25/01/2018 00:04

Oh golly you are all suffering so much..we had it horrid beast. My tricks..liposomal vit c and elderberry syrup. Really does help.

SleepymrsE · 25/01/2018 09:56

Feeling a little better this morning, not as nauseous and my throat def isn't as sore. Just managed a shower... very tired now though. Anyone else noticed any hair loss? Just lost loads when washing hair. Bit alarming.

OutToGetYou · 25/01/2018 10:01

I feel worse, aches all over and really rattly chest.
Hair loss possibly through lack of iron from poor diet when ill? Or maybe just that not washed it for a few days means there is more than usual to come out?

ParadiseCity · 25/01/2018 10:46

Teachers, from a parent, please don't worry about being off sick. My DC have both had variety of supply teachers, it can't be helped and it's not the end of the world. And classes are smaller anyway, think there were 12 kids poorly in DC1 class the other day Shock You have a tough job and need to be well to even attempt it.

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 25/01/2018 10:50

You poor things. You all sound wrung out.

LEM, if you have breathlessness, please see a doctor. DH did so and was told he was at the beginning of pneumonia. It was treated like effectively with antibiotics at that stage but it could have been a lot worse.

ClinkyMonkey · 25/01/2018 10:56

Day 15 for me and I am definitely much, much better. Just tired and nose still sore and bunged up. Feel really bad for all of you still stuck with this or in the early stages. Take it easy - as if there's a choice. It really is like having the life sucked out of you. Thanks

Paradisecity Flowers

Had an awful night, couldn't stop coughing.

Feeling slightly better this morning but still coughing and no energy.
Back to bed for me.

Roomba · 25/01/2018 11:29

My youngest (5) has an appointment with an Asthma nurse later as he went from being apparently fine, no cold or cough, in the morning - to being unable to breath in his sleep and making all kinds of alarming gasping noises that night. Chest infection diagnosed and antibiotics given, but the Dr was worried he was wheezy and crackly, so off to the Asthma Nurse we go. My gut says he developed a snotty cold after the gasping and coughing started, so it's a respiratory infection that started in his chest. Never had any previous signs of Asthma. But my brain is still worrying it over...

My eldest (12) has had this dreadful cold and cough for 3 days now. He feels hot, dizzy, brain full of cotton wool, sometimes nauseous. He went and asked to go home from school yesterday afternoon, as he felt very sick and couldn't concentrate on a thing - only to be told the school nurse was off sick with Flu and no one else was authorised to examine him to see if he should go home. I'm sure if he'd vomited all over the place, someone would magically have become responsible, but they could see he just had a cold so sent him back to class. I almost had to physically drag him out of his top bunk this morning (he's much taller and bigger than me!) to get him into school. I've been half expecting a phone call from them all morning, but nothing so far.

I cannot catch this. My life is such an utter disaster are that I am not coping with at all as it is. If I can't function physically for a few says we will all be up shit creek!

sweetkitty · 25/01/2018 11:34

In bed today, coughing so hard I'm wretching and peeing myself. Am definitely not up to teaching, just feel so bad as we are so short of staff just now it'll be difficult for them to cover my class.

Tomorrow is DD2s birthday and I usually make her a cake but I've got no energy.

Brighteyes27 · 25/01/2018 11:43

I am a lot better but it’s conpletely zapped my energy. I have been signed off this week and I would like to think I would be well enough to go back next week but breathing not good, energy and at an all time low and still coughing hard and peeing myself.

Roomba · 25/01/2018 12:04

Posted too soon... DS's school nurse (now obviously recovered) just rang me to collect him.

So I'm walking 40 mins to collect him then he'll have to walk 40 mins home in the driving winds and possibly heavy rain. Which will be so much better for him than sitting quietly at the back of his English class in the warm and dry... I'd drive but my petrol light came on 54 miles ago and I'm penniless so not risking him having to push an entire car home while I'll as well Grin

Roomba · 25/01/2018 12:04

Ill not I'll. Damn phone!

shewolfmum · 25/01/2018 12:33

Does anyine think this could be due to the live shedding flu vaccine administered to the kids? It is a possibility and i am curious to your thoughts (if not too painful to think!). The first year the vaccine was introduced one school actually closed as it had so many cases of respiratory problems. Just a thought of my over active mind.

ParadiseCity · 25/01/2018 12:58

I had the flu jab last week so feel kind of extra pissed off at being ill... but I don't blame the jab. My kids haven't been vaccinated they aren't eligible. I think for me it's just bad luck.

My birthday child has had an IOU this week @sweetkitty - hope your DD has a nice day regardless.

@Roomba your walk sounds rubbish, I really really feel for you.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 25/01/2018 14:27

I think I got off lightly. Sick for a week but now I’m 99% back to normal. So sorry for everyone still suffering!

OutToGetYou · 25/01/2018 16:17

I don't have kids and haven't been near a child for yonks, so it's a no from me about the live vaccine causing it.

Theonlyoneiknow · 25/01/2018 16:19

@shewolfmum - I do perhaps think that is one of the causes overall for the number cases, all that live vaccine shedding/being spread around

MissMurielStacy · 25/01/2018 17:58

I've had it for a week now. Awful sore throat has gone but am left with hacking cough which means I keep peeing myself.

SophieJo · 25/01/2018 18:28

Still feel exhausted and I have to hold myself when I cough cos my ribs and stomach hurt so much. People keep saying go to the Dr but I know it is wasting his time. It is a horrible virus which plays tricks with you. Think you are on the mend then wham! It hits you again with a vengeance.

Theonlyoneiknow · 25/01/2018 18:43

I have had awful nausea once the flu passed, is that a normal thing. It is a horrible feeling. Mwahhhh
