Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

Ohhhhh greylady are you ok? Yes, the dizziness is horrible and this bug really does throw up new symptoms on a frequent basis. I hope you and your DH feel better ASAP

ClinkyMonkey · 23/01/2018 17:41

Tinnitus here too IVF, but wasn't sure if it was connected as I have it at a low level anyway and the volume goes up when I'm stressed.

My 5 yo went back to school yesterday after having this virus all last week. Now he's off again today with a temp which spiked at 40 earlier. It's very familiar now though as I've thought I was better a few times, only to be struck down again. I still feel as though my muscles are made of sponge and my entire nasal cavity has been filled with quick drying cement. Other than that I feel OK - not being sarcastic. This is Day 13 for me.

BestIsWest · 23/01/2018 17:53

Started sneezing like mad this morning (Day 9). WTF?
My ears are totally blocked and keep making ridiculous crackling noises.
On the plus side, I haven’t coughed any more gunk up today.

BellMcEnd · 23/01/2018 17:56

Oh and YY to the tinnitus. I’ve got a low level mechanical hum like being on a plane or a boat

BulletFox · 23/01/2018 18:38

Ouch, greylady. You're candle lady, aren't you?

I guess my virus is pretty much on an even keel, dry tickly cough has moved to a more throaty cough which is better. My voice hasn't come back yet. If I try to speak animatedly it goes into a high pitched, very faint hiss.

Could be worse, I found the bit where your head feels like it's going to explode in pain the most awful part.

BulletFox · 23/01/2018 18:45

Oh and I forgot to mention the grumpiness...it really does make you feel grumpy

keepmoving · 23/01/2018 19:10

No one's well enough to travel but close your eyes and imagine you are here...

Anyone else have this awful virus?
keepmoving · 23/01/2018 19:12

Imagine the heat on your bones, the sound of sea in your ears (rather than ringing), the smell of pine and sea (rather than mucus)...

HerrenaHarridan · 23/01/2018 20:16

Shit!

I think i am at the beginning of this. Now I’m scared, I’m a single parent to a child with additional needs? It’s just not an option to get this ill or rather if I do I will have to find a way to function.

So far I have this hot itchy tickle in the back of my throat, excess mucus production far back in my throat so I can’t blow it out easily and I’m so tired that twice today I’ve sat down in a chair and fallen asleep unexpectedly

Bowerbird5 · 23/01/2018 23:59

Cherub needy that sounds very like me. I'm still not back to work. Still coughing, light headed. I have now finished the steroids and feel awful. Pulse started racing again because I walked upstairs there is only about fourteen. No phone call from GP so I gather bloods aren't back yet. Will ring tomorrow.

hoochymama1 · 24/01/2018 11:41

Yes, keepmoving book me in Grin

Day 6 and I feel stronger, however still in bed dosed up on painkillers.

Cough is a problem, sleep is elusive, and dh now has satans lurgy too even though he had the flu jab.

I'm panicking about running out of lem sips even though they are vile Hmm

Strepsils are good for the cough also tried gargling with dilute tcp which was good. Do. Not. Swallow.

Will now dress myself and stagger out to panic buy lem sip at the corner shopWink

The weight loss would be fine, but I look like a very ugly bride of Dracula Grin

Theonlyoneiknow · 24/01/2018 12:49

I am back to work today but feel like I am on a drug comedown - brain is not working at all

SleepymrsE · 24/01/2018 14:03

I'm on day 4 of what I think is this nasty virus. Started Sunday, high temp, shivers, just felt rough, sore throat & headache from hell came Monday & yesterday. Was sick in the night Monday & felt pretty nauseous and dizzy today. The cough (which I've had for a couple of weeks) keeps making me gag. Heart rate has been pretty high throughout.

Keep thinking I feel a bit better but then suddenly feel shocking again!!

Off work which isn't great as I already had two weeks off before/after Christmas because of appendicitis. But to be honest I'll just have to deal with the fallout, no way I could have gone in so far this week.

Really hoping to be feeling much more with it this weekend.

Brighteyes27 · 24/01/2018 15:02

I am well into my second week and hopefully over the worst I am off work. I feel dreadful after two courses of antibiotics and I am resting for Europe. But I am not getting well as quickly as I would like. Any tips to perk me up?

Bowerbird5 · 24/01/2018 16:42

GP has prescribed another week of steroids. Still wheezy and coughing. He thinks cough will last another couple of weeks😳

EUnamechange · 24/01/2018 18:15

Day 15, fever, heart rate 110, cough, sore throat, broken voice, weak, breathless, dehydrated

111 sent me to A&E for assessment... Still flu. Still not fit to work. FFS

EUnamechange · 24/01/2018 18:16

But they did provide clarification on blood in mucus issues: Little blood specks in the mucus are due to the force of coughing, or the sore throat. When you're being asked about coughing up blood they're looking for proper red blood quantities.

LEMtheoriginal · 24/01/2018 18:43

Ffs - this bloody thing WILL NOT GO!!! Can feel my throat getting sore again and I feel breathless like I need an inhaler. Not to mention exhausted

When will it leave us????

I've managed a day in the office, a day working from home, day 2 in the office and I am done in. The mucus production has increased x 10 again, my face feels shredded from blowing my nose, I feel breathless and did I mention EXHAUSTED!!! After thinking I was over the worst of it yesterday, I feel I have relapsed by a week.

Agree lemsips max, despite tasting disgusting, seem to be the only thing helping me feel vaguely human. I think Blackcurrant flavour are the least disgusting.

olliegarchy99 · 24/01/2018 18:57

I first succumbed to 'something' back on the 12th December !
I had had the flu jab so assumed the temp, headache, shooting pains in my neck and back ache plus ear ache would go soon.
Between periods of feeling slightly normal - I am still bogged down with feeling wretched (and the headache/neck pain that never goes away)
I have mild angina so each bout of breathlessness/heart racing fills me with some trepidation.
I am sure the stats for deaths/illness amongst us oldies (70+) from this winter will be up over last year Sad
I do sympathise with all of you trying to carry on normal life and work etc with this dreadful virus (or whatever it is).

springydaffs · 24/01/2018 20:25

It's The Plague, ollie, that's what it is.

Ridiculously weepy today, tears tumbling down my cheeks and getting all choked up.. today it was about my aged parents. I feel I can't cope, I feel very stressed, wound right up, very short fuse. I'm a danger to the public.

springydaffs · 24/01/2018 20:26

Actually it's the Bastard Plague.

Goldensunnydays81 · 24/01/2018 20:28

I ended up in hospital with it!! Felt poorly last Sunday and thought I was doing ok until the d & v set in on Wednesday! Have also got diabetes and had stopped taking my insulin as I couldn’t keep anything down but by Friday morning I couldn’t walk and had to have an ambulance sent for me and spent 4 nights in hospital 2 of those in intensive care!!! So it was pretty hideous and I still can’t stop coughing and have got hideous heartburn:(
It is properly hideous this winter virus!!!

thegreylady · 24/01/2018 20:36

Well mine is back with a vengeance. Last night dh said I was delirious asking him to get the cows out of the bedroom! I was sick with coughing, completely bunged up, achy and wobbling. Rang GP who said there was very little she could do. She recommended paracetamol and I uprfen and to up the dose of my asthma inhaler. Dreading tonight but dh has an appt in the morning.

thegreylady · 24/01/2018 20:39

Bulletfox yes I am candle lady but haven’t lit it yet. Thanks for remembering.
