Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

Mine came back I'm afraid! In between the first bit and this one I had a low level sore throat - which I ignored, to my peril Sad

Covonia throat spray. Religiously applying. Just off to the doc for the third time this week regarding dark green gunk coughed up. Back sore now.

Poor poor us, I say Flowers

keepmoving · 22/01/2018 19:35

Oh dear just about to say I've managed a day at work today (with lemsip and inhaler) so must be getting better, light at the end of the tunnel etc but reading about so many relapses, I won't put the flags out yet!

I have agreed to work from home tomorrow as am still visibly ill, I had to ask one of my team to present at a meetings on my behalf, BUT I got through the day!!!

Let's see what tomorrow brings....

Keep repeating the same mantra we used through teething, sleepless nights etc - this too will pass...

Maybe we should arrange a convalescence day out to the seaside? (Or for survivors of "Satan's Lurgey") Feel like I need some sea air to clear everything out. Shame I don't have the energy to get there.

BestIsWest · 22/01/2018 20:13

I managed work today but thought I was going to die climbing the stairs in the multi storey car park this afternoon. I was almost physically sick by the time I got back to the car.

Been threatened with a week away in London for work next week. Hoping against hope it gets cancelled.

Theonlyoneiknow · 22/01/2018 20:27

It was a glorious day today I should have made myself get some fresh air instead of lying in the same germ riddled bed sheets but I have zero energy. I live in a small coastal village and can see the sea from my bed...... Wish I had made myself go out now!

I have never had a virus like this. DP is borderline coping looking after me/kids/house and goes away for a week on Weds leaving ill me and 2 DC. I am petrified that they will start being ill as soon as he leaves. All I want to do is sleep but then I lie awake half the night. Elderberry syrup is helping a little. I am upset as haven't been able to give the DC proper cuddles since last week and DD has lost 2 front teeth in that time!

Lets hope we all wake up feeling better tomorrow! i wonder how they get figures for flu etc if most people dont go to their GP with it

Brighteyes27 · 22/01/2018 20:30

I feel a lot better than I was last week, I am supposed to be due in work on Wed and finish my antibiotics tomorrow. Still have very little energy, breathing isn’t brilliant and have a barking productive cough (which is still causing me to wee myself), am lacking in energy and my temperature goes up if I try to say put a wash on or do anything other than sit/sleep/rest.
Mucus still changing colour from white/frothy, to green/grey to green with tiny specs of blood in it.
Don’t know if i’m Ready to go back taking it slowly or whether to have the rest of this week off (given I haven’t done much apart from staying indoors and properly resting). What do you think?

Mozartinmyfanjo · 22/01/2018 20:37

Day 10. I managed to work from home today but cough got worse and my nose keeps bleeding. I woke up at 4am to the massive nose bleed, which lasted for about 20 min. Then fall asleep and woke up absolutely drenched in sweat. DP keeps pushing me to go and see gp, but l feel like time waster Sad. Now poor DS (5) came down with a high fever and cough. I am hoping it’s not what I’ve got. And, l discovered his head is full of lice eggs, like 100s of them. As if we don’t have enough going on Angry Sad

MyGuideJools · 22/01/2018 21:19

Brighteyes fgs please don't go to work. you don't sound at all wellFlowers

Brighteyes27 · 22/01/2018 21:51

Thanks MyGuideJools a co-worker has been emailing me from work asking how I am and I feel pressured as she is asking when I think I will be back etc. Even though I am not due in until Wednesday its not even a busy time of year for us. I copied my line manager into my reply to her this morning as I feel she is over stepping the mark. It is not as though I am a frequent sick leave taker.

MyGuideJools · 22/01/2018 22:59

Good on you brighteyes don't be bullied into going back, it's not worth it. I went into work last Monday as I felt guilty as there was no cover (nhs) and I honestly don't know how I made the shift! I felt dreadful. But at least people knew I wasn't lying when I phoned in sick I guess!!

springydaffs · 22/01/2018 23:17

I've completely plagued my doctors - I've seen them 3 times this week! I have not been a stoic about this at all Blush

Antibiotics. That's not going to touch the evil heartless vicious virus of course but secondary chest infection.

Liking the sound of a seaside survivors holiday..

sweetkitty · 22/01/2018 23:31

Can I drag myself in here too? This is only the third day I've had this. Started Saturday morning thought at first it was a migraine as head was pounding migraine tablets not working, in bed all weekend my body hurts so much, I also have fibromyalgia which makes it all worse. I took max tramadol on Saturday and Sunday.

I went to work today but I have no voice as I'm a teacher Confused sweating like mad and no appetite. Cannot bear to eat anything either. Cough is horrendous too coughing up lovely green mucus.

Brighteyes27 · 22/01/2018 23:32

Convalescence by the sea side sounds good but I think we’re all too ill to go.

nursy1 · 23/01/2018 02:45

So I started with this on 9 th Dec. 3 days bed or couch. Seemed to slowly get better then came back week before Christmas. ( pretty sure I had chest infection but GP not open so pulled through). Still suffering tonight with cough/ sniffle that is waking me up. I have had a sort of low level sore throat cough all the time but the main thing is I am bone achingly tired. Haven’t been to gym for a month. Every so often it flares back up into proper cold symptoms.
I think it’s “just”a B Type flu that refuses to move on but I’m so pissed off now.

andypandy55 · 23/01/2018 06:23

Hallo, can I join in? Day 13, luckily haven't got the throat but diarrhoea every day, night sweats, the roof of my mouth feels like a cold battered scallop, non productive cough and an investment in Tena Lady. I had three days off last week but at work they operate the Bradford Points system, so no chance of any more time off. I had 4 bad days over Xmas and it went and then came back 11/01. Good luck everybody, without 12 hours per day in bed I couldn't cope.

Mozartinmyfanjo · 23/01/2018 10:56

Update here, after developing stabbing chest pains last night finally went to gp. Pleurisy and chest infection. Signed off work till end of the month and on antibiotics now.
Please go and get checked if you feel very unwell Flowers

windowboxes · 23/01/2018 11:54

Wow, there are so many poorly people! A word of hope, on day 16 here and I do feel OK, felt b tired yesterday and thought it had come back but think it was the knock on effect of coming off anti biotics but today I would say I feel pretty ok, so much so I’m going to my Pilates class now and I’m jogging there. Fingers crossed this lasts, there is hope people! I hope you’re all better soon!!

BellMcEnd · 23/01/2018 13:37

I feel loads better - managed the school run and a quick nip round the local shop for bread etc. My tummy isn’t right at all though. I’ve got very little appetite (not necessarily a bad thing as I was about to join SW when this bug hit me). When I do eat something it results in a dash to the loo soon after. I’m only eating really bland stuff like crackers and toast so it’s all a bit strange.

Definitely like the idea of a Survivors Convalescent Trip when we’re all up to it. We can sit in deckchairs and compare symptoms while telling each other how brave we are.

keepmoving · 23/01/2018 14:02

Windowboxes you give us all hope!!! Enjoy Pilates

Mozart - thank goodness you went to the GP! Hopefully you'll start to feel better now you're on meds.

DS woke up complaining about a headache, sore throat etc and has a fever. My poor DH, he's had the flu jab so hopefully has some protection, but as a SAHD is looking after us all.

ParadiseCity · 23/01/2018 14:07

Can I crawl in? Day 3 of everything HURTING. Not sneezy though. But I hurt Sad

IVFNewbie · 23/01/2018 14:27

Hi folks. I too had it since mid-December but with a slight lull/improvement in the middle. I have been working but not very well! Has anyone had ringing in ears/tinnitus with this?

keepmoving · 23/01/2018 14:57

Paradise - the sneezing and constant nose blowing didn't start until day 7 so it will come...

drinkswineoutofamug · 23/01/2018 15:00

Got my arse in gear today and started the beginning of January clear out, 3 weeks late. I will probably be crawling by tonight but I'm going stir crazy with not working and there is only so many box sets you can watch!

springydaffs · 23/01/2018 15:16

Yes IVF, tinnitus

Also something wrong 'down there' re repeatedly not getting to the loo on time (no. 1) Blush

nursy1 · 23/01/2018 15:49

IVF. Yes weird dry itchy ears since first attack.

thegreylady · 23/01/2018 16:42

Dh and I have both been ill since 30/12. It seems to go in cycles and you just think you are getting better and it sneaks up on you again with a new symptom. Dh has antibiotics and we have doctors appt on Thursday. I find the dizziness and lightheadedness the worst. Yesterday I fell while carrying two cups of hot tea. I am in my 70s and dh is nearly 82. It is taking us so long to get over it. We both had flu jabs too 🙁
