We had an update today. Dh is just about to start the last of his planned treatments. This is his sixth month of treatment, and the last round hit him very hard. Following the last Chemo infusion he spent the better part of 5 days in bed.

Following a chat with the doctor she agreed that an extra week off would be a good idea.

Initially she had told us that after sixth months of treatmet they had nothing else to offer dh, and that it would then just be a matter a time until the tumours grew back.

BUT today she tells us that following further research they will continue to give dh the treatment, at a reduced dose, for as long as he can tolerate it, and it is still doing some good!

The best news we have had in a while!

We are already coming to the end of the 3-6 months that they initials gave us as a life expectancy. We have two holidays under our belts that we never thought he would have been fit enough to take. More memories for the children. We have more holidays booked.

So thanks to the miracles of modern science, DHs bloodymindedness, good fortune and the kind thoughts, best wishes and prayers of family and friends it would seem as if I will have my darling, darling man for a little while longer!

Sniff.

Blandmum · 24/04/2007 12:50

Lyme Regis.

He used to go there as a kid.

Our kids will love fossil hunting on the beach. I've booked a cottage with access to a pool, so if he is tired he can sleep and the kids and I can have fun without too much hasstle for me.

In the Summer we have a Grand Tour of Scotland to see all his relies and so I can stand Tamum up a third time

Oh how fantastic for all of you to have this time to create special memories, enjoy your holidays.

I'm slightly curious re the swoon remark, is Mr MB a hottie then?

Blandmum · 24/04/2007 12:55

NO, I love him, but he isn't a hottie. I think it was the uniform and the spitfire that made Pigsty swoon

That's really good news. I really admire the positive way you've looked on this "extra" time together, and the way your are making the most of it. Your and your dh's attitude is an example to us all.

Polgara2 · 24/04/2007 12:55

That IS excellent news MB. Dh's step father had pancreatic cancer - he was bloody minded too and he lived 2 years longer than they had predicted. MIL swears that he was helped by the BioStrath Herbal Tonic she poured down him every day as well! She said it helped his body cope with all the chemo as well as the cancer.

Lyme Regis is gorgeous martianbishop - they have spent a fortune on the sea defences and created a beautiful sandy beach, there is also a pebbly bit which is much nicser to sit on and eat your fish and chips. Your ds's would like the dinosaur museum in the centre of town

Fossil hunting at Charmouth is great too - I found an ammonite, but be warned the cliffs are made up of quite slimy, black stuff, so wear really old clothes

fairyjay · 24/04/2007 12:56

Brilliant news MB. You really are an inspiration.

Flowertop · 24/04/2007 12:59

Hi MB have always followed your posts and am inspired by your bravery. My dear friend has lung cancer (36) and initially they gave her a year to live. She has been undergoing treatment and the tumours have shrunk significantly, even surprising her consultant. It is such fab news about your DH and I look forward to many more positive updates from you.
