We had an update today. Dh is just about to start the last of his planned treatments. This is his sixth month of treatment, and the last round hit him very hard. Following the last Chemo infusion he spent the better part of 5 days in bed.

Following a chat with the doctor she agreed that an extra week off would be a good idea.

Initially she had told us that after sixth months of treatmet they had nothing else to offer dh, and that it would then just be a matter a time until the tumours grew back.

BUT today she tells us that following further research they will continue to give dh the treatment, at a reduced dose, for as long as he can tolerate it, and it is still doing some good!

The best news we have had in a while!

We are already coming to the end of the 3-6 months that they initials gave us as a life expectancy. We have two holidays under our belts that we never thought he would have been fit enough to take. More memories for the children. We have more holidays booked.

So thanks to the miracles of modern science, DHs bloodymindedness, good fortune and the kind thoughts, best wishes and prayers of family and friends it would seem as if I will have my darling, darling man for a little while longer!

Great to hear such positive news. TC xx

Blandmum · 24/04/2007 12:44

That is the key thing, not only are we having more time, but it is good time.

He gets tired very easily, and has to rest lots. But we still get to do things.

Initially he lost 60 pounds. Since they diagnosed the diabetes (caused by the pancreatic tumour) he had put most of this back on.

He looks totaly fit and well.

Quite remarkable, given that the Macmillan nurse didn't think that he would live to easter, let alone be well enough to be thinking of going on holiday.

That is fantastic news. I have read a bit of your story on here, and really hope all will continue to go well. I trained at the RVI and worked at all the Newcastle hospitals. Excellent place and well deserved 3 star Trust.

noddyholder · 24/04/2007 12:48

Oh MB I am so glad its "good" news.

I often think about you and your family, but feel it would be very rude of me to start a tread asking how its all going.

You are in my prayers.

Don't know if that is where you are BTW, but is the regional centre of excellence for most things, so good place to be IMO.
