For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Does brisk walking count as the exercise? Am hoping it does as I can do lots of that, but not much of anything else!

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 08:20

Beansprout I would think brisk breathing would count, the way most of us are going

I am hoping Overrun will come and join us on this new thread and tell us how she is getting on, plus Papillon with more news about her house

StrangeTown good luck with your glamorous Eastern Europe trip

all old faithfuls please stagger in and declare yourselves

Fab! In that case, will work on my fast blinking too!

anorak · 19/03/2007 08:26

Well I seem to have been pissed the entire weekend, and had chocolate for breakfast yesterday, so I'm feeling contrite this morning and have made myself a nice big smoothie containing the juice of 3 oranges and a banana.

I know you've said you don't do this with the aim of losing weight, but do you find that sometimes you do lose?

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 08:29

I don't find my weight drops but I get more toned and fit into things better

and if I go to the gym I get nice muscles

Another question - should we aim for a 50/50 fruit/veg split? I can eat fruit until it comes out of my ears but veg is a bit trickier. More likely to be 70-80% fruit for me. Or should I just get over myself?

Papillon · 19/03/2007 08:32

Hey, My new home is teeny tiny, looking forwards to renovations already have not moved in yet! Will put a 2nd storey on it so we can walk around without our arms glued to our sides. Still its a great location, great investment and loads of projects to be had

I am going to get two chickens so will be eating lots of eggs. There is an avocado tree on the property, but think its having an off year.

For dinner I had salmon, corn, brocolli, tomatoes and courgettes. Wild blackberries for dessert, picked from the hedge round the corner by our English visitor!

Overrun has been in hospital? Hope all is well now.

Hi Anorak

noddyholder · 19/03/2007 08:33

I am starting a fruit and veg week today so will keep posting here for support if you don't mind.I have got the blender and juicer at the ready and am off to the market this morning to stock up.

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 08:34

Papillon great news and congrats on new house

Beansprout I have been told we should be eating much more veg than fruit so the real hardcore are aiming for that, I think

it is fine to just eat fruit if you like, though (I often do)

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 08:35

Noddy you must eat other food as well! Just fruit and veg NOT A GOOD IDEA in my book

OP posts:
beansprout · 19/03/2007 08:36

Lawks - you are hardcore! I'm not sure if I am hard enough to hang out with the big girls but will stay tuned for ideas. I do want to do this, I think I just need some inspiration!

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 08:38

Beansprout you can handle it

look at Noddy now SHE is hardcore (and bonkers

Noddy ds says "if you only eat fruit and you don't eat your other dinner you will lose all your muscles and just be a big shaggy lump"

I think you should listen to him

noddyholder · 19/03/2007 08:40

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 09:51

OP posts:
noddyholder · 19/03/2007 12:13

I am already a big shaggy lump!My friend has just phoned to say she is bringing round lunch and a dvd no arguments as i have been ill and so I think diet is off for today!

i like to oat oat oat, opples and banonos

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 12:18

Oh noddy seriously I would eat properly and not do any drastic dieting if you have not been well I understand that fruit and veg are extremely healthy, but any form of restricted calorie diet is a strain on your body, and just fruits and vegetables is going to be seriously restricted

OP posts:
noddyholder · 19/03/2007 12:19

I loathe it. It's on a CD of songs sung by irritatingly wholesome sounding children and it drives me batty.
