For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and more detailed information here

(oh and I haven't been eating 10 a day either. Or doing any exercise worth mentioning,)

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 12:51

Ah, we had never heard it before deciding to pass on most of dp's earnings to an organisation called Kindermusik

OP posts:
CheesyFeet · 19/03/2007 12:59

Ah yes we have learned no end of irritating little ditties from our local Kindermusikalike

So Franny, can you tell me, do onions count? mushrooms? chocolate? (ok so I'm pushing it with that last one, maybe just a leeeedle bit)

CheesyFeet · 19/03/2007 13:00

All the little ducks go quack quack quack

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 16:17

Yes onions and mushrooms both count (see links in OP)

chocolate has got good stuff in, I am not denying that, but it is not a fruit. Nor a vegetable.

OP posts:
noddyholder · 19/03/2007 16:44

OK friend gone didn't eat chocolate but did have a hot cross bun!Back to the fruit and veg tomorrow Thanks franny for the day off I am goping to continue eating all night and blame you

FillyjonkIsMilitantAboutFruit · 19/03/2007 17:47

sarz · 19/03/2007 17:56

All you people who use the veg boxes, how did you find a farm?? do i just google it?

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 20:57

Sarz we have a local environmental group who co-ordinate a list of box schemes and local food producers, you could ask around for anything like that

or go to a farmers market and ask about

or go on the Soil Association website and search on there

or just google, I have had success with all these methods

Right I am joining in

I don't get the song title

Today I have eaten 2 bananas, 2 apples, courgette, mushrooms, tomatoes and cauliflower = 7

Hmm not bad actually

Have run around a lot which counts as Some Exercise

Also ate chocolates containing orange flavoured liquer - how many portions of fruit is that?

Overrun · 19/03/2007 21:05

Hi, I have found you all. I can never post long, as I mustn't sit with my legs down iyswim
Dh did some salmon with some swiss chard/leek/mushroom and garlic and it was pretty edible in fact.
I also had some strawberries and two apples. You'll have to let me off the exercise front for a while longer
Hope you are all okay, duh, don't know what to say now. I am really tired and going to bed soon. Dt2 has got chicken pox really badly

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 21:05

MP that is Very Good Indeed

while you are here, I have been meaning to ask you if you would like that very clever and amusing parenting magazine back - the one with the article about boys wanting to wear beautiful clothes?

I don't know exactly where it is but I can find it

OP posts:
morningpaper · 19/03/2007 21:06

No Franny I don't need it back thanks

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 21:06

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 21:07

Ok thanks very much MP

I have been meaning to email you and ask, but thought you would just be scared it was another email begging to be included in the Talk Round up

anorak · 20/03/2007 08:39

Oh I am being a very good girl...another smoothie for breakfast today, orange, watermelon and strawberry.

It's a great way of forcing 3-4 portions of fruit down yourself first thing in the morning!

And last night we had a big roast dinner with mashed swede, cauliflower cheese, soya beans (birds eye) braised fennel, and white cabbage cooked in lemon and olive oil.

FrannyandZooey · 20/03/2007 10:53

Anorak well done all round

I need to pull myself up by the bootstraps I think, have had grapes, apple, pear, pineapple, raisins and soya milk for breakfast

am going to have dips and veggies for lunch then veg curry for dinner

am phoning my gym friend to see if I can pressgang him into going tonight. I still feel a bit crappy after a cold but think that if I just do the weights stuff and not the cardio it should be all right? Or is this just another excuse on my part to be lazy?

Tatties · 20/03/2007 11:48

Well I went shopping this morning so things look promising. So far I have had orange juice, grapes, raspberries and bread & hummus. Have never done a dippy lunch so I am going to try it today and see what ds makes of it. I have peppers, carrots and bread to dip in hummus and mashed avocado (not mixed together obviously )

I really fancied a banana sandwich yesterday but me bananas weren't ripe enough. So I may have one of those later

I might do a kedgeree thing for dinner incorporating leeks.

It is very cold out today but I shall try and muster up the courage to go for a run around the park with ds, think it would do us both good.

FrannyandZooey · 20/03/2007 12:29

Tatties it is HAILING here, can't you jump around on the bed or something instead?

I hope the dippy lunch was successful - ds loves it and gets a bit sniffy if I just do a sandwich - "But where are my vegetables?"

Gym Friend (TM) is not answering the phone. He has probably pulled a muscle or something.

CheesyFeet · 20/03/2007 14:55

I brought an apple, a couple of plums, a banana and a couple of pears into work this morning to graze on throughout the day and I had grazed the lot by 10.30

Lunch is salad with some so-bad-but-oh-so-goooooooood bacon pieces on top/ Yum.

No exercise. Again. Tis too wet and windy to go out and I can't be arsed to get up at 6am to do a DVD . I wanna be as dedicated as Tatties

Franny you could always do a brisk walk on the treadmill instead of your normal CV stuff, a bit more gentle on your lungs perhaps?

sarz · 20/03/2007 19:39

Yay i had a good day!! Handful of sultans, 4 dried apricots, a courgette, green red and yellow peppers (a bit of each!!) tomatoes and a (innocent)blackberry and blueberry smoothie, oh and a banana. Also a handful of seeds, but not sure if they count as anythng!!
I also did about an hour at the gym, and beat my PB on the rowing machine!

I just need to work on water intake now! this should be 10/10/10 club and also to drink 10 glasses of water!!!

FrannyandZooey · 20/03/2007 20:36

Yay, Sarz and Cheesy, good stuff all round

Gym Friend (TM) is faulty. He has only got the off peak gym membership so he can't go in the evenings. I am going to try to send him back and get a refund.

OP posts:
sarz · 20/03/2007 20:40

i may be being VERY stupid but what does 'Gym Friend (TM)' Mean????

FrannyandZooey · 20/03/2007 20:43

he is my friend who has just joined the same gym as me and I was hoping that he would be available to meet up and thereby make it ore likely I would actually go sometimes

Filly said she was " of Gym Friend" so I thought it amusing to start calling him Gym Friend (TM)

ie trademark

I guess it was not so amusing as I thought
